How long does it take to poop? Tmi & Idc
amandastearns replied to lovinmeisez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me exactly two weeks. -
I had my surgery on a Thursday morning and wasn't able to go home till Saturday afternoon. The extended stay was partly my fault because I couldn't drink the required two cups of water to go home the day after. Looking back, I'm happy I stayed that second night because that was the worst my for me. The doctor will be sure to keep you if needed.

One Door Closes, Another Opens
amandastearns replied to FluffyWW's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with dub most of the work starts before surgery. Post op has its challenges as well, but I would suggest preparing yourself in a few different ways. The biggest work I did was mentally preparing my self not only for the pre op diet, surgery day, but after surgery as well. Do plenty of research and know what to expect in the hospital/when you get home. Everyone is different, but hungry doesn't always hit for awhile after surgery. You're going to do great will all pre op and post op obstacles. We're all here for support! -

How long did it take to receive surgery date
amandastearns replied to Justina0218's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor did mine a little different from most. I also had the 6 months worth of visits and then at my final visit I scheduled my weight and date that was roughly a week from my last weight check. At my weight and date I was giving my surgery date (two weeks out exactly from that day). At my weight and date appointment they then submitted for my surgery prior to approval. -
How long are you planning to take off from work?
amandastearns replied to reachbree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Prior to surgery I had hoped to only take a week or two weeks max. As of yesterday I am currently two weeks post op and I'm so thankful I haven't gone back yet. It is my hopes to go back in a week but I'm not too sure I'll be feel 100%. Determinedtolive, not to burst your bubble, but I also have a desk job and there is no way I could go back in that short period of time. I had surgery on a Thursday and was in the hospital till Saturday afternoon. And was on pain medicine regularly in that time frame you hope to be back at work. I hope you have a speedy recovery but I just don't want you to be discouraged of the plan doesn't work. -
Birth control pill question before surgery
amandastearns replied to mmorris4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most doctors require women on birth control to stop taking it pre op do to the risk of blood clots. I was able to stay on mine because I have the implant in my arm. They were sure to give me blood thinning medicine because I was at higher risk. -
I'm currently 10 days post op and feeling great. My doctor instructed to wait to move to phase 2 of my diet on day 14. I'm so temped to slowly introduced puréed foods into my diet early. Not only do I want to chew things but I was thinking it might be a smoother transition doing it slowly. Any suggestions? How early did you start phase 2?

I want pureed food!
amandastearns replied to alexitez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A month seems like a very long time. I was sleeved one the 18 and I'm about to be moving to my puréed foods. I have two weeks of all liquids and then puréed foods for 2 weeks then I slowly introduce regular foods to my diet. -

amandastearns replied to bsanders's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's indescribable how you're going to feel, but trust me you'll catch on quickly. You're going to do great. At first I was extra careful till I felt a little more comfortable with me new body and I would probably suggest the same. -
I had my one week post op appointment this morning and it was all good news! I'm feeling great and my doctor said everything is going as planned. I was given a perception for gerd and will see her at my one month appointment. Best of news, I've lost 14 pounds since my surgery 8 days ago!

Vitamins, Vitamins, and more Vitamins
amandastearns replied to amandastearns's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT told me to take a simple one a day before surgery and then get the proper vitamins after surgery. I haven't tried that patches, but hear good things. Ask your NUT what vitamins you should be on now. -
Not sure which way to go...
amandastearns replied to JKBtx's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have a lot of valid concerns. I'm 8 days post op and haven't had any issues making food for my loved ones. Actually i want NOTHING to do with food at this point. I did experience some nausea but asked my doctor for some anti nausea medicine and it worked perfectly. All those things could happen but if you follow the plan they're less likely. You'll do great with whatever you choose. -
Hey all! I'm a week post op today and I've been feeling wonderful. Not much pain and I've been able to move around fairly well. The last two nights I have been up with heart burn or gerd. It's pretty rough and has been effacing my sleeping. I knew this could be a side edges but I suppose I didn't think I would have this issue so early on, especially since I'm still liquids only. Is this normal? I have a post op appointment tomorrow (Friday) and will speak with my doctor about medicating but just wanted to hear from y'all first hand! (P.s. I know I spelt it incorrectly in the title I wish the app would let me edit that)

I found a good protein!
amandastearns replied to idreamofskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Do you put the extract in the shake for flavoring?I haven't yet but I've thought about it. I also bought the PB2 and it's a powder Peanut Butter. That would go into it also! I love pb2 but I'm unable to use it yet. I'm looking into other Proteins as well I just hadn't seen anyone use those. Let us know how it is! -
Thank you all so much for the great advise. I wasn't placed on a PPI. I go back tomorrow and will make sure to get a perception. I have never (in my whole life) had acid reflux so honestly I was a bit confused at first. The last two nights have been sleepless because of it. I'm curious if they never gave me one because I've never had it before. Thankfully this hasn't made me feel hungry, I haven't been hungry since my surgery, but it makes me feel gross. Like something is wrong with my stomach.

RANT about perspective of coworkers
amandastearns replied to valerie0822's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also received similar reactions. But my favorite is "you didn't need to do something so drastic! You looked good as a big girl" [emoji849] key eye roll!!!! I often think this is people's way of being nice because they aren't educated on the subject. I've always been truthful with people. If the natural way worked for me I wouldn't be spending all my time and money on becoming healthy. Be confident with your choice. You have support from your loved ones (I hope), and you have support from everyone on here! -
Warning: I'm hungry and whining
amandastearns replied to careya123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi there! I am 3 days post op and have serious gas build up in my chest in shoulders. I was discharged from the hospital yesterday. While in the hospital I did over 10,000 steps by walking the halls night and day and that helped. Is this normal to still feel this pain? I'm a week post op and I still feel gas pain. Not as extreme but trust me it's there! I'm using gas x multiple times a day. It's normal. Keep up the walking if possible and take the medicine. You're doing great! -
2 wks post-op hungry and not feeling my restriction! HELP!
amandastearns replied to JennsJourney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm sure your surgery wasn't a fraud. Your body and mind are adjusting to a major change. I'm a week post op and haven't felt a bit of hungry. Although, I do feel like I should be eating or I need to eat. It's a mental thing. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited to move out of the liquid part of my diet, but it'll come when my sleeve is good and ready. Stay strong! We're all here for support. -
Night before surgery
amandastearns replied to bevewhite's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You'll do great tomorrow! The day before my surgery everyone who knew kept asking if I was ready or similar things. I was so confident in my choice, similar to you, and I haven't regretted it! Everyone is different, but I haven't felt hungry since my surgery (2/18). I'm on the all liquids and it hasn't bothered me. The thought of eating something at the moment makes me feel sick. I hope your have little pain and recovery quickly! -

Vitamin Help Please :)

I've been nutrameteix and it's a great product. It's liquid and you just have to drink it in the morning on an empty stomach. It taste like tang kind of. The best part is the convince and the 8oz counts to your liquids! I buy mine online. -
Hospital necessities and Staying busy during recovery?
amandastearns replied to FeelingFancy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Honestly everything I brought I didn't need or use. Most of the time I spent sleeping and when I was awake I was walking around with the nurse or peeing (I received so many fluids via IV). Also, all my loved ones wanted updates so that kept me busy as well. Also, I would suggest being very focused on drinking that water once the time comes. I was overwhelmed with how difficult it was and was unable to go home the first day without getting all the fluids in.
