Did everyone have a Pre-op diet?

I was eating high protein low carb 6 months before surgery but no liquid diet. I ate up until midnight the night before surgery with no liver issues. Just like everyone said, every surgeon is different! Mentally prepare yourself either way.
  2. My doctors makes me stop drink 30 minutes prior to eating and 60 minutes after! I feel your pain. I have a constant timer on my phone so I don't get off schedule!

    Why did I do this?

Laura, are you only drinking cold fluid? In the beginning I only was able to drink room temperature fluid. Now, four weeks post off and now can drink any temperature fluid. Also, the heating pad was and still is my best friend any time my stomach is angry.

    Reflux post op

I experienced this after surgery. I spoke with my surgeon and they gave me a perception and it helped tremendously. Most sleeve patients are on a PPI for reflux.

    supervised diet

I wouldn't think your insurance would take it because they want you meeting with your wls and nut. Also, the pre op testing and what not. I was doing weight watchers prior and they wouldn't accept that.

    What to bring to hospital?

Honestly the only thing I used that I packed was a hair tie and my cell phone. My time was spent sleeping, walking, or peeping. I brought Chapstick that helped a lot, I'm not sure about lip gloss.

    Pre Op liquid diet

My doctor did not require any liquid diet. I could eat up till midnight the night before. My surgery went great and I haven't had any issues. I'm three weeks post op and have lost 30 pounds.
  8. Not that it's okay, but I think it's somewhat normal for family to ask those questions. Less than 24 hours before surgery my father ( who hasn't said much before hand) started questioning everything and made me even more nervous than I already was. You'll do wonderful and have the support of us all! Stay focused and we'll see you on the losers bench soon enough.

    So nervous!

What?!! They made you walk?!! Yes! I was so horrible. They put me in a pre op room without a bed, chairs only. Then they gave me my IV, made me take my pregnancy test, told me to say good bye to my husband, and off we walked to the operating room. I had to climb on the table and everything. Very odd, and intimidating.

    So nervous!

All of that is very normal. They made me walk to my operating room and it took everything I had in me to walk into that OR. You'll do wonderful!

3 weeks post op and need feedback

I'm also 3 weeks out and I can't even eat 2oz of anything! Liquids are a bit better for me, so I'm focusing on shakes as well. I eat, but I know I simply can't get my protein from the food only eating 1 oz.
  14. I could t get with the isopure personally but it's worth a try! Also, I have genepro protein it's tasteless and flavorless so you can add it to just about anything for the extra protein. It comes in handy!

    Today is the day

You'll do wonderful! Just remember the feeling after surgery is only temporary and walk when you can, it helps!! Also, also for the mouth wash for dry mouths! Best of luck, we're all thinking of you!
  16. Walmart/SAMs club has a scale on their blood pressure reader. I use that one weekly because I find it very similar to my doctors. Also, it tracks my progress for me when creating a profile.

    Happiness

Ask for the mouth swab for people with dry mouth. My nurse gave it to me, it saved wonders. And ask for chap stick as well!! They also have gas reliever. You'll feel better soon

    Telling family?

Personally I haven't told my extended family. My husband, parents, and sibling knows about my surgery. I live out of state from most family and I don't really find it to be their business. I shared with my parents that I didn't want them sharing about my surgery and they haven't. If and when I see my family and they have questions I would be happy to tell them. I not interested in hear all the "horror stories", or about their friend, or what they have read about the surgery. So by the time they find out I'll be able to tell them MY experience rather than hearing about another persons.

    Happiness

Best of luck!! Keep us posted. You'll do wonderful.
  20. This journey is a pretty emotional one, so all these feelings are 100% normal! Not much happened at my first appointment other than speaking with my surgeon about the procedures and what I was thinking. Then after I met with the NUT and spoke about the six months leading to my surgery. You'll get weighed and receive your bmi. I was sent home with a large binder with a ton of information. Also, they'll give you deadlines on the pre op testing that needs to be completed before a surgery date. Best of luck tomorrow! Congrats on making the big choice.

I've never seen it at BJ's but SAM's has it as well.

    Need help

I was sleeved the 18th and I'm on puréed foods. Most are going well but some foods make me feel similar to what you're feeling. I am on a PPI and that helps. I don't have any of the pain, but I do use a heating pad daily for my discomfort. Have you tried a heating pad or speaking with your doctor about your concerns?

    Personal Questions needing answered

I had some similar issues a week post op and my doctor gave me a perception and it did wonders.

    Personal Questions needing answered

I also think if you're not on a PPI that would help with the "hunger". I'm three weeks post op and still haven't felt hunger (everyone is different). Also, I wasn't able to go to the bathroom till I was 2 weeks post op. I would call your doctor to see if they have any suggestions.

    Starting My Journey

Welcome!! It sounds like you're making great steps in the right direction. I also had to wait 6 months prior to my surgery and trust me the time flew by! Prior to surgery I would take time to mentally and physically prepare yourself and loved ones for the major life changes that are about to happen. Also, watch as many YouTube videos as possible. I also followed people on social media to get a feel of what life would be like post op. You'll be on the losers bench soon!
