It's hard not to think that obesity is used as some kind of population control. I mean it's ni secret that people who are obese are at higher risk for heart disease high blood pressure diabetes stroke and other ailments. It's also ni secret that it's an epidemic in a country which is slowly trying to separate people into rich and poor. I used to be the manager of a grocery store and people would come in with two types of assistance. Wic (women infants and children) and food stamps. Wic tells you what to buy. You have to get things like peanut butter fresh veggies non sugary cereal eggs milk baby food apple juice and so on. Then there was food stamps. I would watch people buy cases of moutain dew I would watch people by cakes candy desserts ice cream. It was almost absurd that the government the same government who foots the bill for Healthcare would let them buy 350 dollars in a month of Junk. I have been poor and I have been well off my problem is portion control and quick fast Food. I love healthy food I just eat too much. But I would never dream of pumping my 7 yr old full of the things I mentioned. I am sorry you got such awful options but if your options were that or to starve I guess they wouldn't be so bad. It's a shame though really because some don't know any better. You obviously have the wisdom to discern what moderation was for your son. My nutritionist now teaches me to shop around the outside of the store and not to go into the center where the processed stuff is. So I hit the fruits and veggies seafood meat deli dairy and try to make good choices for my family and myself on my new journey. I would never want to bestow a weight problem onto my children if I could help it as I know it's been very unpleasant at times. Praying your new job and pay increase works out and you can eat all the right foods and help others. Thank you for sharing your thought provoking paragraph.

Know what you ask? Know that you were ready to make a life altering decision to get wls. What did it? Was it how you felt about you're self? Was it your health? Maybe your dr? To look better? Feel better? Where are you at in your journey?

This is so misleading and a shame to write this on a page like this you can really confuse people who are in an vulnerable state

My name is Sam. I'm 30 yrs old. I recently have become sick and tired of being sick and tired. I'm fat. I don't care to sugar coat it. That's how I got this way. Pun intended. I will tell you I'm scared of surgery. I will also tell you I've done many things I've been scared of. I am so on the fence about bypass and sleeve. Originally I thought I wanted to lap band. That turned out to be very wrong. So my surgeon is really pro patient choice with in reason. And I am stuck... so I'm really curious how did you make your decision? What's your experience?

@@coachk11233 I didn't want the lap band after talking to my dr. 1. It's never good to have a foreign body inside you. 2. It can perforate the stomach 3. You have to see the dr alot to have it agjusted and it uses a big needle into the port 4. I heard that you don't usually have significant weight loss or help with comorbities 5. It has the slowest weight loss rate 6. It usually has to be replaced 7. Port sites get infected That being said even know my dr belives that bypass is the gold standard of wls he still does lap band ocassionaly because he belives it's better then nothing but he dosent recommend it.

Sylvia13 how was your healing process and have you started to loose weight already?

I read this could be common but honestly how can you be depressed when your loosing so much weight.

That all makes sense. I have pressures cooking for kids work in a party store ton of candy food every where all the time. But I want this so bad I want to be thinish. I want my husband to be able to pick me up with ease. Run and play with my kids. Swim with out being so self conscious. Be healthy. I'm ready for a change gastric bypass scares me but what are u going to do I was scared to get married and to give birth. You just get thru it.

I guess that's understandable I am pre op I just try to ask as many questions as possible. I want to know as much as I can. I want to know what you can't read. What you can only learn from those who walked the path before you.

Thank you for explaining that sounds painful but bearable.Dosent happen that often. That's good to hear.

Marie Car I am not as close to surgery as you but I share your feelings exactly. I am so scared but I know I need to do this. I focus on the good everyone says but I feel like in petrefied. Gastric bypass seems so serious I don't know how I got like this. I feel like no one gets how afraid I really am. It's a lonely place to be I'm healthy as well but I do not want to wait till I'm not. We can be here for each other. Surgery sistas.hang in there
