When You Eat Something New Tummy Doesn't Like...
Chris-NYC replied to sbacoleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For me it was tunafish. I used to eat it prior but at surgery it makes me very nauseous in a very uncomfortable feeling am I stomach so bad that i'm afraid to try it again. However everything I try so far has not given me a problem -
Ook that's great I thought about that hospital but Lenox Hill was closer by train
-

I have been assigned a case manager, now what?
Chris-NYC replied to arenea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yea my office only allow us to keep our cloths on after the first initial weigh-in. Forgot to mention that they did give us a hospital gown so it wasn't a weird feeling stepping on the scale. But it could just be my office requirements who knows, I'm pretty sure most only had to take off their shoes. Either way I wouldn't worry I'm sure a few pounds wouldn't make a big difference getting approve -

I guess it depends on ur surgeon Office procedures. They already know the reason you coming to their office so they will definitely weigh you so they can have accurate measurements for the insurance company. My office made me take off everything except for my underwear when stepping on the scale for the first time -
United Healthcare approval?
Chris-NYC replied to arenea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your welcome and I completely agree with taweedeegirl. I have did these exact same steps. I would recommend you talking with ur PCP first about your decision depending on your weight medical history they probably will agree with it. If so ask for ur doctor for a recommendation letter to have for the surgeon. I too would to call United healthcare on ur own before seeing a surgeon and tell them ur interested and bariatric program and wanted to learn more. ****Just do not automatically say that you want to have surgery*** lol. The person if knowledge should tell you the qualifications and direct you to the proper dept that handles this United healthcare has select center of excellence locations that you must pick from. The last thing you want is to waste your time attending appointment at a non-covered office. It happen to me when I first thought about surgery. I went to a non-approved office even though the surgeon said not to worry United healthcare directly told me that if I continue to go to that center they will not cover my surgery. So I switch. -
Congratulations and good luck on your surgery.

United Healthcare approval?
Chris-NYC replied to arenea's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have United healthcare as well just be sure when calling from the list definitely make sure you feel comfortable With the surgeon office Personnel. I originally had one surgeon selected who was closer but every time I called they put me on hold then got disconnected a few times and then whatever call me back felt like I was bothering them. So I switch to a different surgeon who ended being fantastic. I did have a few co-pays, of course this might vary based on your pacific plan. $40 co-payments every time I went to the surgeon office. $20 monthly co-pay to see my primary doctor for the six-month weight history review $150 for the Psychologist $250 hospital co-pay on the day I had surgery. Now that I had surgery I spent approximately $25 give or take and Vitamins in mouth -

I just had my gastric sleeve surgery on July 20. Yes I also have United Healthcare and was assigned a case manager as well. I'll be honest I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of it is but it does make the approval process a lot smoother and quicker especially if you keep the case manager updated and every appointment you have. I emailed my case manager once a month with any appointments I had or upcoming as well as my current weight.I felt doing so helped. In fact after complete in the six months review and talking to the case manager I got approved 2 days after. -
Hey Brandon I was not required but did lose 20 lbs within the 6 months supervised weight review so my Dr told be my current exercise and eating habits was pretty good. He said the purpose is to prepare you & your body to get in the habit of eating better plus a less chance of complications. However i was told to try n not gain any weight but I did gain 2 pounds before surgery due to a family bbq the week before surgery but was not noticeable since my weight was still less then my pre-op final visit. Quick note: Every doctors different on their patients length of time but be prepared that you will need to be on a clear liquid diet anywhere between 5 days - 24 hrs before surgery.

Hey KiwiMum sorry about the vomiting you had but am glad you feeling ok too. I did not experience any vomiting at all after surgery. However i got very nausea 3 times while in the hospital. 1-first sip of Water, 2-the smell of hospital borth food and 3-the taste of crush of med in my mouth. As for fluids yea I'm in the same boat as you, ,I'm only able to get about maybe 40 oz and 30 oz of Protein. I think Friday was the most since getting home. Tuesday I only got 16 oz which is the reason I got relases on Wednesday -
