  1. Hang in there! This is what I tell myself every day for the last 6 days. Just keep thinking how great your life will be at the end of the journey. I'm scared of the pain also, but figured I had a baby naturally and if I can deal with that, I can deal with this. Both kinds of pain are temporary and each day will get better. On day 2 of my liquid phase, I would have given anything to suck the salt off a potato chip but I held strong and the urge passed. Yours will too, just keep positive.

    MARCH SLEEVERS?

I'm on day 6 of 14 of the liquid phase and I'm about over these Protein shakes! Never want to see another one when I'm done with this! Monday I go for my pre-op testing and then on the 21st I will be getting the sleeve. Every time I get fed up with the shakes, I just remember why I'm doing this and think of how the surgery will change my life for the good. Besides that, I'm down 9 pounds in 6 days!

    Acid and decision for surgery

Will you be getting the sleeve or RNY? I will be having the sleeve on the 21st.

    Acid and decision for surgery

I have GERD and Barrett's Esphagus (?) and my surgeon says that he will look for hernia while in there but nothing showed on scope but he felt that loosing this weight will help with all the acid reflux.

    Starting My Journey

Hang in there, that 6 months flies by. I finished mine the end of January and received approval the middle of February and tomorrow I start my 2 week liquid diet with surgery on 3/21. This is a great place to spend that 6 months to learn all you can from these people who have gone through the process.
  6. Thanks for sharing your story. I start my pre-op diet on Monday and will keep this in mind to stay on the right path.
  7. Hello, I'm in Louisville and starting pre-op diet Monday morning so having my "food funeral" tonight with son and daughter-in-law! My surgery is on 3/21 here in Louisville with Dr. John Oldham. I'm so excited as it has been an 8 month adventure to get to this point.
  8. I start my pre-op liquid diet Monday and I can have 3 shakes and a small meal the first week or 5 shakes and then the second week its 5 shakes up to the day before then its Clear liquids. This is the part of this process that I'm dreading the most.

    It just got real!

Congrats JennWeb! I am right there with you, I'm scheduled on 3/21 so I can get things in order at work as well. Plus I have a hubby who is so afraid I'm never going to cook for him again! LOL I'm excited and nervous about how it's going to go. I know 2 people who have had this done and one is gain back and the other is a slow loser so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

    Anyone From Kentucky?

Hello April! Good luck next week and you will have to keep us posted as to how you are doing. I'm excited as I'm half way thru my 6 month ordeal required by insurance so it looks like February will be my surgery. I just had my scope, EKG and chest x-ray done so that is out of the way. Dr. Oldham is really great!

    Smoking

I have quit smoking since my doctor does the nicotine test before surgery. I miss it but I want to get the surgery to get healthy, so why smoke? I will continue to be a non-smoker as I re-start my life and do most things differently so I don't end up making the same mistakes that got me to where I am now.

    Where is everyone from?

    cj76, I'm in Louisville, KY
  19. I just recently had my 2nd check in son only 4 more to go. I basically stayed the same but am proud of that as I also quit smoking and I figured I would gain! But it was a learning lesson for me as just counting calories didn't work so now I'm concentrating on carbs and will see how that works out this next month.
  20. I'm on the 6 month diet required by insurance and if everything goes according to plan, I should get surgery the end of February or first of March.

    Bypass for reflux and hernia

I was originally thinking of the sleeve but I have horrible acid reflux and am second guessing my decision. I am currently on a 6 month insurance required medically supervised diet so I have time to talk to my surgeon about it.
  22. I just started my 6 months and yes, I have to do endoscope in October. I was told not to gain as that would make you start over per insurance. My company has been bought out and I'm keeping fingers crossed that new insurance still covers sleeve!

Wow, interesting about the apple cider, never thought about that. my boss said her taste preferences has really changed since her surgery in June. Funny about the sense of smell, wouldn't think that would be effected.
