Hi, My name is Olivia and I having VSG on July 28th 2015. I currently weigh 329lbs with my starting weight at 345lbs. This has been a fairly long process for me. I first considered weight loss surgery in 2009. At that time I felt like I was still young enough to be able to shed all the weight by myself. I was at a plateau weight of 320 at the time. In 2011 I attempted the most strenuous effort to lose weight of my life. I got off Soda completely , went on a low carb diet and began to exercise daily. I even worked my way up to walking a mile daily and lifting weights at my local YMCA. In a 9 month period of time I managed to lose a total of 10 lbs. and also managed to blow out my knees. AS a direct result of that effort I was no longer at a plateau in my weight and immediately began gaining weight, very quickly exceeding my previous top weight.
I truly felt like I would never be able to lose that weight that I so desperately hated. Although insured , bariatric surgery was not a covered expense and I felt completely desperate and very alone in my struggle. In January of this year I took on a new job and with it came new insurance that did indeed cover Bariatric surgery. I jumped on the opportunity. My first visit was in April 2015 with a surgery date of June.
Unfortunately there were a few mishaps along the way and my surgery was pushed back to the end of July. I am currently waiting, impatiently and with a healthy amount of fear, for my date to come up.
My surgeon does indeed have a support group in operation however , after visiting the group a few times I felt that the lack of anonymity didn't allow for people to truly express how they were feeling or what they were struggling with. ( At least I couldn't) So I am here to gain support , and advice from people that are in the same place or have been there before me. I open to new friendships and to anyone who needs a shoulder.
