Maybe you were her angel....I think it's great!!! Worthy of waiting and sharing your story for the right reasons. Good for you. I wish you both the best :clap2: :clap2:
  6. I'm no expert on the language of your policy. However, that statement sounds like your insurance will not cover visits to a nutritionist for weight loss (as opposed to visits for diabetes for example), nor would it cover prescription drugs for wieght loss. That is fairly common for all insurances...since there are over the counter drugs for "weight loss". I would call and get an answer from them directly. When you get one answer call again the next day to see if you get the same answer. Some reps are more informed then others. Keep us posted.
  7. I wish you the best and I'm glad to hear you are willing to fight for better health for yourself. One thought...you mentioned your insurance does not cover "weightloss". I have heard of instances where the insurance will have an exclusion for weightloss or the like...but leagally they can not exclude tx for morbid obesity, which is what you are seeking. There are samples for appeal letters on the obesityhelp site. Also a good book to buy is weighloss surgery for dummies. There is a great appeal letter sample in there, as well as lost of great info about this whole process.
  8. Spalm, First of all...welcome to the board and your new journey :clap2: . :welcome: My first suggestion above all others would be to call your insurance company and ask them if YOUR policy covers lapband. You can not always go by what others experience is with the same insurance because some employers may purchase a cheater version of the plan. When speaking with the insurance company ask for the name of the person you speak with on every instance. Ask them what is required for approval.....they will no doubt be reading from a list of some sort. Ask that the criteria be mailed to you in writting. Depending on what they require, i.e., 6 month supervised diet etc. You will want to begin that at once by meeting with your PCP every month and following some sort of diet provided by your Dr. In my case my PCP refeerred me to a nutritionist who I visited once a month as well. Dr. S I hear is awsome just has a long waiting period...If you are interested in him...If you have not done so already call to get an appointment, as this will usually be a 5-6 month wait. Don't know his stats but his office will tell you if you call. Great places for research are sites this this as well as http://www.obesityhelp.com http://.annualsofsurgery.com www.obesityresearch.org www.nejm.org www.newsrx.com This is one article http://www.mja.com.au/public/issues/183_06_190905/obr10369_fm.html This is were people have given their opinion on their banding experience http://www.remedyfind.com/rm-3919-Gastric.asp Hope this helps you get started.....Good luck and hope to meet you. Maryland Lap Band Support Group

HEY GUYS -- I was talking to Teresa the other day and Raquel brought us a simillar topic on an OH thread http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/LapBand/postdetail/271216.html?vc=0 I was thinking today at the meeting we can discuss this topic.....Practicing / managing better food choices, and practacing bandster rules while eating ( not drinking etc. ). I was thinking we could talk about this and learn how others deal with these issues. Maybe we can practice the rules today together. I'm a firm believer that since this is new..we must practice to make it routine. Any thoughts...

    Smokin'?

My two cents: I know many of us have tried the weight loss pills of the past. And regardless of how safe they think it is now...How often is it the case that 2 years later they realize there are bad side efffects. I think the band - although an object being placed in your body, is more natural than altering your chemistry in your brain with meds. end of two cents :Bunny
  22. stockymd

    Who did you tell?

Not banded yet, But only told mom and dad (and they know not to tell any other familly members). I told two of my close friends for support and that's it. Nobody's business...plus I don't want everyone asking me how much I've lost all the time etc. Just my choice..plus I'm a very personal person anyway. :Bunny
  23. I need a psych eval, and was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a Dr. I would like to get this done this month, but can't find a Doctor with experience with weight loss patients. For thoes of you that can recommend I would appreciate the name and number of the Doc that did your Phych eval. My PCP is goofy, so I need the info to tell him so I can get a referral. I don't care where the Dr is located ...will travel for evaluation :Bunny

    I Need A Psych Eval!!!

Kee, I hate the way this post is set up...I can't see what you asked..But I will try and remember. Dr. Fernback accepts MDIPA, actually he is the original Dr. my PCP referred me to. I called MDIPA to ask them specifically what I need to do for the psych eval. The Dr. has to go on MDIPA's web site and fill out a for FIRST and submit to them for approval (prior to your appt). I recommend calling MDIPA and seeing what they need 1st. You do not want to get stuck with that bill! I have been seeing my PCP and a nutritionist for the past 5 months (one more month to go). I had my 1st sleep study a couple weeks ago. They called me today to come back again cuz I snore and have apnea..and want to see if I can tollerate the machine they are going to want to give me. Yippy!! I have my consult with surgeon on 1/23/05, my psych on 2/1/05 and that's where I am so far. I hope you can join us on Sunday it would be great to meet you and chat :Bunny :Bunny
