  1. Omg you guys!!! Both with a loss of over 100 lbs! Uh oh this is where I get discouraged! ???? I know the number isn't everything but my dr always wants to look at numbers when I see him. Reading both of your replies has got me thinking -- and this is a good thing! I think I've fallen off the wagon a bit and this is a good wake up call. I've got to watch those carbs!! So addictive!!!! One thing at a time I guess-- I gave up soda and man that was so hard for me. Thank you so much!
  2. Hi! I had a gastric bypass here in Houston, TX back in November of 2015 - on the 24th to be exact! A day before Thanksgiving! I didn't see a running post for November Bypassers so if you know of one, please send me the link so I can see others' progress! Can you list your starting weight, your loss a few months later, and your loss right now in July 2016? Curious how we all are doing! I know each of us will be different depending on a lot of factors, but I'd love to see if we are similar too! Me - I'm 41 years old, mom of 3 - had a FT job Weighed 234 on Nov 24th, 2015 Weighed 200 on March 5th, 2016 Weight 169.6 today, July 1st, 2016. My goal is 135 but I'm only 5'1'' so it really should be 115 but I don't want to get crazy! Has anyone gone back to any old eating habits? I used to drink a zillion sodas.... now when I drink one, the bubbles taste funny so I don't like it and don't drink them. I drink a lot of iced tea and flavored waters - no bubbles. Kind of boring, wish I had more options. Tried to have a small bowl of vanilla ice cream and was very sick for 2 hours after so never ate that again! I'm JUST NOW tolerating greens for salads. I am about 7 months out from surgery now with 65lbs lost. No exercising yet as I have scoliosis and a lower back disc bulge I'm getting PT for - via a pool therapy. Hoping to feel better soon so I can work out and get rid of the flappy skin hanging around! Anyone else want to share experiences? I'd love to connect! Thanks!! Shann
  3. Hi @@irishaggie! I'm a mom of three in Houston (Friendswood). I've been dealing with diets for years and watched my mother do it too. I had a band placed in 2012 and removed 8 mos later- then went to Mexico to get a sleeve but doc said he could only do a plication as my stomach was swollen. Plication a joke. Few years later get an insurance that pays and got a bypass. I was willing to pay OOP for this!! Some offices take Care Credit which is interest free for medical services but I know you're done and congrats. Bypass on 11/2415. 45 lbs lost. I ste a very small bowl of Blue Bell ice cream and was so sick for hours (dumping, too much sugar). Gave up soda!! That was hard. As far as feeling guilty, you really only live once!!! You made the right choice cuz if momma ain't happy, no ones happy lol!!
  4. Hi guys, Is anyone having issues with your doctor/insurance? I know there's a forum out there for this kind of stuff, but I'm an August Bypasser and I'm getting nervous since it's so close! My doctor scheduled me at an OUT OF NETWORK hospital. WHY? They gave me some story about "better pricing". If I go to an "in network" hospital, I will have more out of pocket. Why do I feel like my doctor has some kind of vested interest in the OONetwork hospital? My doctor also is requiring that I use a new pain pump called "On Q". That is an additional $250.00! I asked if I could just use the old fashion method of pushing the button for more pain meds and they said no it's required. UGH. I already paid the entire doctor's fee and then they throw this $250 fee on me. d:( I'm afraid to contest anything or move my surgery because I don't want to wait longer for surgery at the in network hospital. Has anyone had this type of experience?
  5. Hi Cutwater!! I think what you're doing is awesome on your own. I am required to do liquid. The reason my doc requires it is so that my liver shrinks and my skin is a little loose for the instruments on day of surgery. Mine is Aug 18th!
  6. I can't explain what is going on. I have a RNY August 18th. I have been mourning the loss of me! Will I be the same person with less weight? Does anyone kind of understand this ? I hear depression is a side effect and I honestly wonder if it's just grieving your old self. Anyway, so emotional. Grieving a surgery??!! Sigh

    Scared

Hi there! Yes I went to Mexico to have my lapband removed and a sleeve done. Due to swelling he did a plication instead. I lived a little north of LA so I drove to TJ. It was weird. You meet with a clinic worker who picks you up near the border. They take you through gate and you are transported to clinic- which was newer but this tiny office. All nurses (2) were basically the ones checking on me. They had a bed in the nurse area and slept overnight with me! Released to a nice hotel for a night and then they came and got me and took me back through gate to San Diego. So there us have it. Not a good memory but paid 3800. I've heard of some amazing surgeons in Mexico!! A few work out of hospitals which is a more American-type experience. PLEASE NOTE: if you check into this, your coordinator makes BOOOO COOOO $$$$$$$ of of you. NEGOTIATE the cost of surgery. Literally. Check around and get prices and then use that to negotiate!

    Gastric bypass risks.

My situation too!! Gastric reflux is terrible and this is one additional reason why I chose bypass. I also think that I have to do something drastic and this is it!
  9. Hi!! I wanna be in the August group! ????. Actually my surgery is August 18th. I've had a lap band, traveled to Mexico in '12 to remove lap band and get a sleeve. Dr only took band out and put plication. Said stomach was too swollen after band removal to do a sleeve. Anyway!! I had to get double coverage because my other insurance would only cover ONE lifetime bariatric surgery - who does that! The Gastric Bypass I'm about to have is nerve wracking. Plus I have a huge deductible before any coverage. It's $6500 out of pkt before they pay their 70%. Sorry to complain but has anyone else had to deal with this insurance crap? I remember the pre-diet for the band. It was tough but I found a skinny or healthy picture of myself and kept it in front of me. Focus on the reward!! Think of liquids as nourishing your body to help you feel better! I'm excited. I'm still wondering about a lot of things: will I need to get all my meds in liquid form for after surgery? What's the average stay at hospital post op? Ok I've blabbed. Just had coffee! Thank you all for your support!
