@@mimic86 That is great news! I am going to my first appointment on August 13th. They say its a 4 hour appointment in which I meet the surgeon, nutritionist and psychologist. I'm excited but nervous! Wishing you the best on your upcoming surgery!

All new to this WLS from California!

I am also in California on medi-cal. I live in the Bay Area. How about you?I was referred by my PCP to Stanford Bariatric Clinic. They had me fill out a questionnaire and I had to wait for a surgeon to review my information before they would allow me to do anything else. I just got word they cleared me to get the process started. The clinic said they would be calling me tomorrow to go over information and schedule my seminar. Good luck to you!
  5. It really isn't. I just submitted my initial questionnaire to the surgeons office on Monday. And they emailed me that it has been received and forwarded to the surgeon to review. If they feel I'm a candidate then I get scheduled to attend the seminar. My PCP already gave me a referral. So now I continue to wait... How long did it take everyone else? Would it be ok to contact the surgeons office?

    Waiting is no fun!

A whole year? Wow, the anticipation would eat me up! But yay on getting your date!

    Waiting is no fun!

I'd contact other surgeons to compare requirements/wait times. I could have picked from several hospitals. My time from consult to surgery was under 8 weeks, but I went with a hospital who was promoting a new surgeon in their group, so their was almost no wait. My insurance only has a contract with the surgeon I am waiting on. :/ But if this gives me a new life in the end, then the wait will be all worth it.

    Waiting is no fun!

I did contact my insurance and they don't require anything other than a referral from your PCP. So any requirements will strictly from the surgeon. I know I will have to get an EGD, chest x-ray, a couple meetings, and psych evaluation. So I guess I will just practice some patience. Congrats on being post-op! Sending you the best!
  9. Hey everyone! My name is Amy and I had been thinking for quite some time about WLS. After many failed attempts of trying to do it on my own I finally decided to talk to my PCP about it. I met with her on Wednesday and she sent in the referral in no time! Today, Thursday the bariatric clinic called me and sent me a nice stack of questionnaires. I am in the Bay Area and on Medi-cal. Just looking for some friendly support on this journey! (:

    Super newbie here!

@@Anxious2beme Sending you all the best! I will keep my fingers crossed for you as well! I hope it all works out! I didn't ask. I am too nervous to ask. I figured I'd give it a couple of days and then contact them for any updates.

I hope your seminar went well! I submitted my initial questionnaire to the surgeon and now I guess I just wait to hear from them to see if I am a candidate!
