  1. @@Daisee68 Thanks so much for the pep talk. I've eaten a few Popsicles with no problems and a 1/2 of jello. You're so right that I've come this far so I can hang in there another few days.
  2. @@esskay77 I had bypass and the NUT said he discouraged Popsicles because it's cold. He said you have to treat the new stomach like a newborn who only gets milk for quite awhile. I'm going to follow the process even though I think the surgeon would probably know better.
  3. Went to my 1st post-op appointment with my surgeon on yesterday which was 7 days post surgery. Dr said I was doing well. No nausea, pretty much off my pain meds. He said I could try other foods rather than my protein drink and clear liquids. He stated purée foods and eggs would be fine. But when I stopped at my NUT he said I have one more week of liquid. Can't even have a Popsicle. He said maybe jello. So disappointed. I know my booklet says 2 weeks of liquids post surgery, but does Dr instructions not trump that?

No Bowel Movements 7 days post-op

@@Djmohr thanks. Good idea to also ask about the suppository. Glad to hear it can take a while for the first BM. This has been a pretty good recovery for me so far. Hope I continue to do as well going forward.

No Bowel Movements 7 days post-op

@@LittLeFoot14 thank you. May I ask how soon after surgery you started taking the miralax? They gave me liquid stool softener, but that won't make you go. I also don't have that usual constipation uncomfortableness. I'm just not going.
  6. I had my rny on 7/28 and still have had no BM and now 7 days post-op. Had my 1st post-op appointment today but forgot to tell my Dr. I've left a message for the nurse. Just wondering was this the case for anyone else. Also, today had some of the foaming after sipping 2 ounces of boost drink. Still having a bit of reflux symptoms after another 2 ounces of boost for dinner. Still on liquids so could that be why no BM? My NUT said it could be the result of the anesthesia. I feel fine other than these issues. I also still have my JP tube for another week since the fluid amount was still quite high. I had a lot of scarring from a previous abdominal surgery though so I was under for quite a long time during surgery.

    Abdominal Binder?

Don't stress too bad over the pain. As said previously though take your meds on schedule the first few days so you don't go through unnecessary pain. I'm 4 days post -op and have only had 2 major pain episodes and I had a 6 hour surgery due to having to have a previous Nissen surgery taken down and there was lots of of scaring and adhesions. They also have me a binder at the hospital and it helps. Especially if you have a JP drain.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

@@Pinkpeonies1 They want your body to go into ketosis so that your liver shrinks and that makes it easier for the surgeon to move around it during surgery.
  9. @@HappiTam Thanks for letting me know its not the norm for prior Nissen patients. That makes me feel a bit better.

    Pre-Op Liquid Diet

Someone suggested making your own broth (if you can have broth on your pre-op diet). I made my own last night and it's pretty yummy. Just watch the sodium in your spices. Much better than the bought stuff. My broth and sugar-free fudgesickles are getting me through. I also like my sugar-free chocolate jello puddings. I add my unflavored protein to my fat free Greek yogurt also. Taste better that way than in drinks. I also bought the ketone strips so I could tell if I were in ketosis. I love the sugar-free chocolate muscle milk 100 Val's version.

    72 or so hours out!

    Best wishes to you all.
  12. @happiTam...I had a Nissen about 3 years ago, but my doctor hasn't said anything about the chances of needing an open surgery due to that. Now I'm worried. Do you know if your case was normal for those with a Nissen? Hopefully this thread isn't too old and you see my post. Thanks.
  13. I'm also July 28th. Only a few more days. Scared of the surgery also. It helped me to watch a live bypass surgery on YouTube. It looked pretty straight forward. Although my surgery won't be quite as simple because I'm having a Nissen wrap taken down at the same time. The surgery will be the same type of laparoscopic I had with my Nissen with the tiny incisions but no cutting on the inside involved with that one. Wishing everyone having surgery next week a speedy recovery. Prayers for all of you.

    Unjury

I like the chocolate splendor. Didn't like the strawberry and the chicken flavor was just bearable. I tried to put the unflavored in my vitamin water and it taste like medicine was in it so I won't try that again.

    Surgery

@@Luvnme4eva the social events are tough. I just had an out of town party. Did good with not hitting the buffet at the party and I'm fine with no alcohol. Dinner with a big group was another story. I ended up eating salad. :-(. Then ran on the treadmill at the hotel gym because I felt so bad about it. You can do it. Keep your protein drinks and water and those snacks allowed on your pre-op diet within reach during the reunion.
