Need help getting water in
rking replied to curlychic32's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
you and me both! i just am not getting 64 oz. however, i just found the trick for me. i visited with my nurse about not getting enough Water. she suggested New whey Protein. it comes in a tube, is 3.8 oz., and has 42 grams of protein. i bought the fruit one and almost passed out from the smell. it was rank. it tasted horrible mixed with water. she suggested putting it in water and adding lemon. it was still horrible. i bought the grape flavored. much much much better. the first time i tried it i put it in water and added lemon to try to negate some of the nastiness. it actually tasted good!!!!!!!!!! now i just add about 1/3 of the tube to a glass of ice water and it tastes like grape kool aid. i dont even add lemon. been doing this four days i think, and i am getting lots more water in. i do have to make myself drink it; i am not thirsty either. sit it by you and set an alarm every 15 min if necessary. at the end of the day i have added 42 grams of protein to my diet and that takes so much pressure off of me meeting my protein goals. i dont seem to have a whole lot of appetite either; i have to make myself eat most of the time. -
New~ Any ideas to help greatly appreciated~weening myself off Soda and wandering if there is anything to help me not to have bad headache?

take as long as you can. if you drink 2 cokes a day, drop to 1 immediately. you will still get plenty of caffeine. then drink a little less every day until you are having just a little caffeine. skip a day, then have a little more, skip a day, little more, then skip two days, have some, skeip two more days. something like that....... i am weaned off, although i do have coffee and tea sometimes and never get caffeine headaches. -
Looking for people in their 50's to go on this journey together
rking replied to sjrn16's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am 50 8 weeks out. you will do great. i was afraid of failure also. 33 pounds down -
I would not do bypass because of malabsorption. I take several prescription meds and cannot afford for them to not be absorbed. I LOVE the sleeve. Lot less complicated surgery in my opinion.

You can do this! Really think about what is going on. If you want to eat but not hungry, are you bored? If so find something to do. Go clean. Go walk. Go volunteer somewhere. Are you stressed? If so do some stress relief. Go walk. Call someone. Find a way to work through your stress. Do not waste this great opportunity. Your feelings will pass. It will get easier I promise!!!!!!! Just do not give up!

Question for Aetna peeps.

Man I completely understand. It's so hard! Before the sleeve I had to work hard NOT to eat. Now, 8 weeks post op, I have to make myself eat to get all the Protein I need. Such a difference!!! It is wonderful. Good luck to you!!! -
Question for Aetna peeps.
rking replied to billyfromphilly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
According to my plan, I could not gain a single pound from one month to the next. Instant denial. If that is the case with you, go on a liquid diet. Postpone another week of possible. Say you are sick or something. LOW carbs. LOW sugar. When you go to her and weigh, wear very light clothes. Take off your shoes. No under clothes hahaha. Can you meet with her via phone? That way you can "tell" her your weight instead of show her, if you know what I mean. Others may not agree with me, but oh well. We all have our opinions. I know what I would do. I have to ask you this on the nicest way possible. Are you sure you are ready for surgery? There may be circumstances that I don't know about causing you to gain weight. Just move on from here and do this!! -
Man, I am here for you sister! YOU GO GIRL! Two years is more than phenomenal. Do you have any questions?

Question for Aetna peeps.
rking replied to billyfromphilly's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am in texas and have Aetna. I know it differs from policy to policy. I simply could not gain weight at all during the three months on supervised diet. One month I lost only one pound and the other months were around three. There wasn't a whole lot of loss going on. I was approved. And quickly. -
I agree. 103 is really high. Better safe than sorry.

Sweetheart you can't go to work with fever like that!! You must feel horrible!!!!! Did he say you can take Tylenol? Sorry, it's the mom coming out in me. Please get better.
-
Take your temp. How high is it? I get fever every surgery I have but don't think 12 days out. Does anything hurt like throat, chest, etc? Does your doc have a number you can call after hours? If so I would do that.
-
You are awesome! I can't thank you enough. I will get some of that stuff!! I appreciate the time you took to help me out. Thanks!!!

Man thanks for the tips! I am almost 8 weeks out and I am losing more hair than normal. I think it is due to hormones though. I am really worried about hair loss at 4 months . Also, my skin has become really dry too! Strange. I still struggle to get all my fluids in and that doesn't help.

New Whey Protein Shots
rking replied to Thecloude1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great news!! I tried my grape new whey today and it was good! Put some in ice water and stuck some lemon juice in it. It was good. I used a little over a third of the tube in my first glass then the rest in my second glass. -
Mornings I sometimes just have coffee with vanilla protein powder, or 1-2 eggs, or Greek yogurt with protein powder. For lunch I try to take left overs from last nights dinner which is mostly chicken or fish and veggies. I may have thinly sliced turkey and cheese, rolled together. Snacks may be yogurt, cheese, sugar free Popsicles. I admit I am pretty boring and not creative.

I am so sorry. You will recover. Just hang in there now and take it day by day sweetheart. You are in my thoughts. I agree with psychoprof too. Maybe a second opinion isn't a bad idea. Ask questions and don't be afraid to be bold. It is your body. -
