I can have Protein shakes, broth, sugar free popsicles, unsweet tea/coffee, and lots of Water. I have been very, very, anxious about this and that is not normal for me. Day 9 Post VSG, and a little depression
rking replied to Cody Harmon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, how much weight should I expect to lose from day 1 on pre op diet to say, 1 month post op? -
Thank you, ladies!!!!!! I have felt really good all day. When I hungry, I go for broth or a shake. If this is as bad as it gets, I can do this with no problem!!!!! But..... does it get worse???????? LessofMe.... I completely understand! I feel like I am losing my best friend! That speaks volumes... it shows we eat for lots of other reasons than being hungry. Maybe we both need to concentrate on figuring out if we are 'head' hungry or physically hungry after surgery. Do you feel worse today than yesterday? I am really excited...... I hope not too soon. I can handle this well if I feel like this for the remaining time.

I do not live in Dallas, I live in Midland, but I am having surgery in Dallas. Two weeks from tomorrow as a matter of fact. What doctor did you use? I am using Victor Gonzalez. Tell me how your surgery went and how you feel now and for the past week, please!!!!!!

Oh wow! Tough decision!!! I get very frustrated about my insurance. My co pay for bariatric surgery is $5000, but my doctor is working with me on that. By the time all is said and done, I will spend about $8000. I have two kids to put through college, so I would have probably waited if I were you. BUT, on the other hand, I am very impatient and want it NOW!!! Tough decision. I guess it depends on how badly you need the $11,000 for something else.

You are ok now, you realized your mistake, now learn from it You can tell me the same thing when you see me on here saying how badly I screwed up I love the idea of keeping emergency food in the car!!! SURGERY SET FOR 11/12 WOULD LOVE A BUDDY
rking replied to S00N 2 Be Skinnyyyyy...'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would love to be buddies with yall as well. I live in Midland TX, which is about an 8-9 hour drive from Houston. Almost as far as Carolina hahaha. My surgery is also November 17th. I am finding myself being anxious, a little impatient, and kinda grumpy the last few days. I think I am really anxious about the pre op diet I start Tuesday. I hardly ever get worked up about things, but I can tell that is getting to me. -
Pre surgery preparation
rking replied to Chrisedwards's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started this journey in July. My surgery is November 17. The first month I kept doing everything I was doing, maybe exercising a little. Then I had got into a different mind set. Around that time I was diagnosed as diabetic. I quit drinking cokes and stopped eating sweets. I really watched my sugar. I have done really well. I started walking and working out at the gym more than I was. I guess my big change was what I eat. I dont eat perfectly healthy , but I have really really cut down on sugar. I still do not drink cokes. That was HUGE for me. I watch my Snacks and stopped eating Breakfast at McDonalds. I now eat low sugar low fat Cereal at work. My insurance required a 3 month regimen where I had to have nutritionist appointments and lose weight each of the three months. I have done that. -
I start mine on Tuesday. Ugh...I dread it. I can have 4-5 Protein shakes a day,at least 100 g protein, no more than 50 g carbs, 800-1000 cal a day. I can have clear broth and sugar free popsicles. I can also have a little unsweetened coffee/tea. I have to have 64-96 oz Water a day. I am told that the first 48 hours are the toughest, then your body goes into ketosis, where you body first turns to protein and then to fat reserves. My doctor says I will experience a sensation of improved well-being and absence of bothersome hunger in the second or third day. He also says side effects are dizziness, headache, fatigue. Boy, I can hardly wait.

Weighing Benefits vs Risks
rking replied to Denise007's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had surgery yet but will Nov. 17. I was thinking about doing it anyway, but then was diagnosed as Type 2 diabetic. Well that was it for me. I also have high blood pressure. My mom and grandmother have very high blood pressure are are diabetic. Both took insulin. I, too, was pre-diabetic for quite some time. I decided I was not going to fight my weight the rest of my life. I was always an athlete, until about age 35, and did not have weight issues. After that, I gained and gained as the years went by. I am now 50. My knees are fried; I have had 3 knee surgeries and get shots in them. I know losing weight will help tremendously. They are very arthritic. Dont get me wrong, I am not doing it only for health reasons; I want to look good too. But my health has a LOT to do with it. I guess I am not a spring chicken anymore hahaha. When I have grandkids, I want to be mobile and be able to run around and chase them. I started at 224 lbs about 3 months ago and am down to 216. Tuesday I start my 2 week pre op diet, then it is surgery time. For me, it was a no brainer. The only thing that worries me a little is that the surgery is not reversible (Sleeve) and if I am nauseated or throwing up all the time it will suck. That is the ONLY thing that concerns me. Surgery itself does not worry me a bit. I have read story after story on here how well people do afterwards. So many people do not ever get sick or feel bad and I have the mind set that I wont either!! I just wont have it! hahaha I would take a look at your insurance details, too. See what the requirements are for them to pay for bariatric surgery. That may help your decision too. Good luck!!!!! -
Great news!!! No nausea? I go in Nov. 17th.

Awesome!!! It is really exciting now! and a little scary.....

Struggling with pre op shakes - send motivation!
rking replied to BritAbroad's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I start mine Nov 3. I haven't found a protein shake I really like yet. I am a little concerned. I feel ya!! I am not afraid to be hungry but I do not want to feel bad. I am starting to ween off caffeine already, a little at a time so I won't have a caffeine headache to deal with as well. You can do this!! It is ok to be hungry. It will pass by fast I'm sure!!! Good luck to you!! -
Actually, I have now completed all the requirements and my paperwork will be mailed to Aetna on Monday!!! I lost at least one pound every month. I feel I will be approved. Had my EGD last Friday and showed positive for h pyloric bacteria so am on heavy antibiotics. Surgery is scheduled for November 17. I am excited and scared to death. Pre op liquid diet starts Nov 3. I am really worried about losing a ton of hair. I know not everyone does, but I was once on this medication that made my hair fall out. It has never recovered. It is kinda thin in the middle front and it thinned somewhat everywhere else. I am considering Rogain or something similar a month or two after surgery . I guess I am really vain haha. Good luck to all of you! Lexigurl, how long did your approval take?
