I had it before surgery to check for several things, including h pyloric bacteria, which I had. To check for leaks, I had an X-ray after drinking a little barium.

Thank you for that. I have been drinking water all I can today. It must have been so recently. I felt great Thursday and had been getting my fluids. Also, I have a little temp, 99.0. I can always tell when I have it. I'll call doc tomorrow. -

I was completely overwhelmed with them at first but my doc office was sooooo good and they know exactly what Aetna needed to know and knew exactly how to write it. I chose the 90 day protocol to "get yourself ready for surgery" option. 1. 4 nutritionist visits. I did mine over the phone with nutritionist they recommend cuz I am five hours away. She knows exactly what insurance needs. $40 a visit. 2. Cardiologist clearance. Did a sonogram on heart and stress test. No big deal. He had to write a letter. 3. Exercise program supervised by qualified person. Nutritionist counted for this since you do discuss in detail your exercise that you are doing. You have to workout or walk or something. 4. Psych evaluation. Got that done no biggie. 5. Doctor has to say you are in this pre surgery regimen. 6. You CANNOT gain any weight during this 90 days. Also, if your BMI is between 35-40 you must have a co morbidity. High blood pressure has to be really really bad to qualify. Let me know if you have questions. -

When you go to weigh, wear the very lightest clothes possible, shorts, tshirt, no jewelry, socks, maybe. You can always bring clothes to put on. You might consider a liquid diet for however many days before the weigh in. -

I was positive for h pyloric and was on strong antibiotics for 2 weeks. I would google all that other stuff to learn more about it. -
My doc said I could go home the next day. I was doing really well except I was very groggy due to morphine. Since I live 5 hours away and we had to drive home, I decided to stay another night.
-
That med will for sure help! Do you know what you will have in the hospital? I had a morphine pump. I was numb and loved it LOL.

I need food! 7 days post op
rking replied to scarlep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am 15 days post op. my post op is this: 2 weeks Clear Liquids. 2 weeks of clear and full liquids.. Protein drinks, sugar free yogart, milk, homemade Soup. weeks 5 and 6 soft/pureed food.... mashed taters, mashed Beans, oatmeal, cream of wheat, baby food, unsweet applesauce. week 7, regular diet. My doc, whom I love dearly, is very conservative and cautious. I have not been nauseated one single time. The only time I felt bad is when I had fever in the hospital. Yes, my stomach was really sore, obviously, but I have done great. Like perfect practically! He knows what he is doing for sure. I feel i am ready for oatmeal and cream of wheat and mashed taters already, but I saw him today and he said the long staple line of my new banana stomach has to heal.I trust him completely. All I can suggest is to follow your docs orders. I do not see, however, how extending liquid and pureed foods diet can be harmful, but like I said, listen to your doc. -
thank yall very much!! i feel so silly hahahaha, but it is a big deal to not have a waffle i do stay at marriotts anyway when i travel. i will try resident inn. i had no idea anyone had a grocery service!! that is super! thanks for the info

I flew to Dallas for my first post op appointment. I am 15 days out. I am doing fantastic. Could not be any better. At home it is easy to eat right because I have everything there that I need. This morning at the hotel for breakfast, it was a "free" one with eggs, bacon, cereal, bagels, cream cheese, you know the ones. I have always pigged out at those. This morning I had a yogurt, juice, and milk. They may seem like a small thing but I actually made a good choice! I CAN do it!!!!!!

The reason I would never consider RnY is due to malabsorption. I am on several medications and cannot afford for them not to be absorbed. My sister had it and the malabsorption of medications was a real problem. I was dead set on lap band until I went to Dr Gs seminar and changed my mind to sleeve. I have also read too many revisions and lots of docs not doing sleeve any more.

Can VSG work with coffee?
rking replied to Coffeeguy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was allowed coffee both pre and post op, just no sugar or cream. Now I can have skim or 1% milk with it. -

lauraellen is right. you can give better care and support if you are healthy. your son needs to see that you are ok. i know as a mom, that would be hard as hell. if he sees you falling apart he will think/know there is a reason to fall apart. let him see you for the strong woman you are. get in your mind that he is going to be ok, and start acting like he is going to be ok, because he is!! start thinking and talking very positively. there has been leaps and bounds in technology and research. your family will make it through this just fine!!! things seem to just work themselves out. i cannot even imagine what you are going through. my nephew was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer. he had a huge tumor removed last year. what should have killed him made him very much stronger and wiser. boy does he really enjoy his life now after feeling so much better for a year. it was hard enough seeing my sister go through what you are going through. lots of people are praying for you. hang in there sister. you have lots of support. take care of yourself first. let us know if there is anything we can help you with, as much as we can do online -
