Have you asked? All Drs are not created equal
rking replied to Balance's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 2-3 hours. I did not have any nausea at all thank goodness. Not sure if I got anti nausea med. -
I take the bariatric Vitamins, from mail. I had to wait until week 4 to start the Iron chewable. I started Calcium and the multi a month before surgery. I have had absolutely no issue with them. I like them really well. I have not had any issue at all with any food or drink at all, though. My doc did say to wait a couple of hours between the calcium and iron pill. Are you taking them at the same time?

Now I understand why we dont tell people we are getting the sleeve...
rking replied to Scottyd1264's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have been so fortunate. I work really closely with four people, two of which office within 15 feet of me. They are my friends. I told them when I was looking into surgery. The three of us always laugh and joke about diets and working out and food. None of us had any discipline. They were really excited when I told them I was doing it. I told several people at work. I am an open book. I also consider many people at work my friend. I told my family early on. Every single person was supportive of me. It was awesome!! Part of it may be that most people in the building know me, many well enough to know that I say what's on my mind and they knew I would have none of their nonsense. I just would not have listened to it. I honestly feel each person in my life is sincerely supportive of my decision. Friends check up on me, ask how I am, how much I've lost, what I eat, blah blah blah. I have been very open about it. Part of it may be that I have nothing but positive things to say about my surgery. I work with wonderful people. My family is wonderful. The ones that truly care about you have your back and the others can stick it where the sun don't shine!!!!!!! ???? It's such a personal decision, telling who you want. You can't until it, so I do not blame anyone for being choosy. Good luck to all!!! ???? -

7 days of liquid/Got words of wisdom to help?
rking replied to MsCyrus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@MsCyrus if you survived day one you are good to go lady! Good job. @@Dub would call me a weenie I'm sure, but I really didn't know if I could handle the pre op liquid diet. I had 14 days. My doc said say one and two are the toughest. He was right. I actually was filled by the Protein shakes I had. To be honest, I was really afraid of the pre op diet. @@Dub go ahead and take your stabs at me. I can take it . It was not horrible at all. I did get bored with liquids after week one then it got a little tough. You got this! You can do it and you WILL do it! Seriously, 7 days will fly by. I promise!! -
That is great news! It should get better each day. I feel fortunate that I didn't have a drain.

Overall how have your moods changed?
rking replied to WannabeH's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am five weeks out and have felt great the whole time. I did not have mood changes at all. I was really happy the whole time after surgery. One big reason was that I felt to good. No pain to speak of, just soreness. And another biggie, I WAS FINISHED WITH THE PRE OP DIET!!! I did it and survived it, barely haha. I haven't look back since. Funny how people are so different. I actually lost 15 pounds my first three weeks after surgery. I didn't retain the fluids. I do have to say that I went into surgery with my mind made up that I WAS going to feel good and that there would be no issues. Good luck to you!!! -

You all can do this! It was extremely hard for me but I did it. It wasn't that I was very hungry but I missed food. If I can do it you can do it!!! I was two weeks on liquid diet, no soups of any kind. -

Any Second Thoughts while on pre-op Diet?
rking replied to tcshrink's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only hard part for me was the pre op diet. Looks like you have it easy hahaha. I was on two week liquid only pre op diet. It sucked big time. But I never had second thoughts. -

12/28/15 Sleeve in Plano TX
rking replied to ironpoorer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We have a lot in common! I live in midland and had my sleeve done in Dallas with dr. Gonzalez. He and his staff are wonderful by the way. Midland is five and a half hours from downtown Dallas. My hubby and I stayed in a hotel the night before and he stayed with me both nights at hospital. I could have gone home after one night. I felt pretty good but still felt groggy somewhat from morphine. Since I lived so far away, I decided to stay a second night. Wouldn't hurt anyway. It is IMPERATIVE that you get out of the car on your way home once an hour and walk around for ten minutes. Blood clots can/will kill you!!! the ride home was a non issue for me. It felt good getting out of the car every hour. The ride itself was easy. I started on liquid hydrocodone the day after surgery. I have had three painful knee surgeries and I'm all about staying ahead of the pain. I took my pain med every four hours. That is as often as they would let me. There is no reason to be in pain if you can take pain meds. With that being said, I felt great from the minute I woke up from surgery except the two times I got a low grade fever. That is normal for me when I have surgery. The surgery just sat well with me. Not one time have I been nauseated. I am five weeks out and that still holds true. My doc is very conservative and I thank him for that. I would be happy to answer any questions. Who is your doctor??? -
I will say I think that Nectar (syntax?) seems to mix much more smoothly than all the others. It just dissolves so easily. I have the unflavored as well.

Why we fail to continue succeeding:
rking replied to winklie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great job! Good reading!!!!!! -
My doc is very conservative and I am so glad. I have had no issues at all. Two weeks clear liquid diet Two weeks liquid diet, Protein shakes, yogurt, milk. Two weeks puréed. Mashed taters, mashed Beans, baby food, oatmeal, cream of wheat On week 7, normal diet. Introduce one food at a time. Aim for 100 G protein and no less than 75. At least 64 oz water/ liquid. Protein Shakes don't count as liquids.

Are you taking pain meds as often as possible? My advice is stay ahead of the pain and take pain meds as often as they let you. I actually had no pain, just soreness getting up and down. The first day I was really groggy and numb due to morphine pump. I loved it! I'm all about no pain. And right, walk walk walk. Gets the gas moving and out. It gets better everyday!!
