Unchartered Territory: Scared to eat
Kevbear replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No...not yet....I do recognize the neurosis....I'm only almost 3 weeks out from surgery...so I'm still adapting...if I still feel like this when I go back in September it will be discussed Have you considered talking to a counselor? This sounds so much like dysfunctional eating behavior -- the kind that got many of us to the place where we needed WLS. -
This was the worst for me too. So it's not just you Complicating things for me is my left shoulder is already extremely damaged. I actually have a prosthetic shoulder. My post OP shoulder pain was as bad as it was before I had the old one cut out It subsided for me by day 5 or so

Unchartered Territory: Scared to eat
Kevbear replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My issue...and I feel like an idiot saying this....I feel guilty eating anything other than liquids I had an egg for lunch today, and am debating getting back on the elliptical this afternoon even though I've already lifted weights and run for 45 minutes today Yesterday I had two "mushy" meals. I feel like I have to run to the scale to make sure I haven't gained weight I had my surgery 7/13 and I'm down 41 pounds from my pre-OP on 6/26. I am scared to death to stall though. I feel....less manly....for being this damn neurotic about this I also have yet to master taking 12 minutes to eat a single egg. I don't feel badly when I'm done. Just really, really full. I'm thinking about sticking to my Protein shakes for a bit longer -
I was sleeved on 7/13. I started running on the elliptical again on 7/22 after my post OP appt.

A lot of it depends on how old you are What women look for when they are 22 is very different at 32 and different at 42 I've been married for almost 18 years, so I am not dating However, when I was in law school in my 30s I had several, extremely attractive, classmates make their availability known.......despite being at possibly the heaviest I've ever been The most recent girl that made it clear if I wanted to wander I could is 22, and quite attractive I never have wandered and don't intend to start. My point is simply I was hit on when I was skinny, and when I was heavy too I do think for me there are a certain number of factors 1). Yes, I am way overweight. But it's deceptive because I'm also six and a half feet tall, and (as I jokingly tell people) cut under all this fat. I look a lot like most offensive linemen do, which makes sense, because I was one. I'm fat, not bad looking 2). I'm married. I hate to say it, but that does attract a certain class of ladies. And the more I say no, the more some press. 3). The Kevin James effect as already described. I'm a confident, outgoing person. As was said, if you're a skinny douchebag I think you have less chance than if you are really cool big guy. Most "9s and 10s" as the OP worded it can be choosy as hell. Being skinny won't just do it. Nor will a great personality. Oh, and please, for god's sake, never refer to it as "game" around women

What did you say you were going to do Pre-Op (so you wouldn't fail) that you didnt accomplish Post-Op
Kevbear replied to Running2theSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 13 days post OP I ran on the elliptical today for 35 minutes, and have every day since I was cleared to at my post OP appt last Thursday I've also mixed in some light lifting....doc said as long as it didn't hurt in places it shouldn't I would be fine...no cruches I am the cook in my family, and cooked again the day after I got home from the hospital Truthfully. I wasn't even tempted. I felt so full just sipping Clear liquids the food I was cooking wasn't even tempting. I suspect you will have the same thing My biggest issue is Protein intake. The only way I can still get to my protein goal (for me, 100g a day, I'm a big guy...former college football player)!is through shakes (or Soups, but hot Soup in the middle of the day in the south in July...um...no). I was cleared for yogurts and then mashies when I felt comfortable, but I couldn't get down even half of a 100 calories yogurt. At my size and activity level that's nowhere near the calories or protein I need. It's like..I can feel slightly full on a 190 calories, 30 gram of Protein shake, or full to the top on 50 calories or yogurt I guess what I am saying is be prepared for a whole new food calculus. The way you think about food will totally change. You will be fine. I've lost 40 pounds since my pre-OP weigh in on June 26th. And 25 pounds since my surgery on 7/13. You can do it! It will be easier than you think -
I don't think on the clear liquid state of the diet that would be recommended. I'm only 10 days post OP and on my second day of full liquid. Those soups you describe would fit into what my doctor calls "full, liquid" which you aren't supposed to start until 10-14 days post op

Ideas for Post-Full Liquid Diet
Kevbear replied to Chris-NYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I found a good Protein shake of all places at 7-11. 30g of protein, 5 sugars, and 190 calories. I basically drink half a bottle of it 4 times a day. And have a soup. The soup is definitely the hardest to drink but the B-50 Vitamin I've been given has to sprinkled in something and it is disgusting In a shake it's awful. But in soup it's kind of like a spice. I will try and figure out the name of the shake. I have an empty bottle in the car. It's much better than a lot of the other ones. After the pre-OP diet I'm also tired of the Bariatric Advantage shakes -
Ideas for Post-Full Liquid Diet
Kevbear replied to Chris-NYC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on the full liquid post -OP as of yesterday I was told basically What I was eating on clear liquid Plus Yogurt, Greek or fat free...no fruit in it pudding, but to make sure it was watery Pourable consistency cream of wheat (gross) Skim or 1% milk Puréed Soups Creamy soups, make sure any chunks are strained out I tried to eat a yogurt, a 100 calorie one, and couldn't even finish half I found some soups that aren't bad...found some potato lentil soup that I added unjury Protein powder to. But I couldn't imagine trying to eat something like chf boyardee right now I am pretty much sticking with various Protein shakes right now, with a soup....I can't get the protein or calories I need from the yogurts or such -

How much did you guys lose in the first month?
Kevbear replied to ldean7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery Monday, July 13 I went back for my post OP today and have lost 21 pounds in basically 9 days I am down 36 from my pre-OP weigh in on June 26th Now, that comes with a necessary disclaimer as people have said I'm a man, and I'm 6'6., and apparently both those factors lead to greater weight loss. My doctor today actually said I should be prepared to see my weight loss accelerate. 2 pounds a day was already pretty damn fast I thought -
I have a long history of musculoskeletal injuries and surgeries, and get cortisone shots occasionally into joints, as well as the need to manage the chronic issues that come with that. The only co-morbidity I have is slightly elevated blood pressure. Apparently with some of the meds I take for the joint damage can cause intestinal ulceration after the bypass, which can be very bad at best, and fatal at worst Sleeve was an easy choice after hearing that

Disclaimer, I am only 10 days post OP I had my first BM post OP last Friday (surgery was Monday) I was not uncomfortable before it happened and the first one was loose. Since then I've varied from borderline constipated, to very constipated, but I'm still able to go. I'm going roughly every other day. Had my post OP today and they said what I was experiencing was normal I haven't taken any laxatives or softeners yet. I do have mirilax and have taken it in the past after surgeries and will use it again if the need presents

I was sleeved on July 13. I had a really hard time sipping post OP without getting gas. I basically sipped...belched...sipped...belched...honestly I had more gas pain than post OP pain It's all gone away here on day 9. You will feel better Only thing that hurts now is my abdominal muscles, which I figure is normal for a while longer, and even then only when I do a sit up like motion

Pre vs post op diet...prepare yourself! (This is somewhat of a rant also)
Kevbear replied to MrsDixon's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was definitely much hungrier pre-OP than post OP. The only difference between the two diets for me, really, was one Protein bar (which I would be ok if I never ate again) and a banana. The shakes are all the same The thing I find weird now 9 days post OP is the "hungry" and "full" feeling are the same I can't tell the difference. I don't have cravings. And am not in pain, beyond the muscular pain in my abs, so I pretty much default to "full" Everyday since post OP day 3 I have hit the protein goal. I am the cook in my house and am having no problem in continuing in that role. Tonight I made fried chicken for my wife and kids and myself some unjury chicken broth while they ate. Maybe it's because I've had much more serious surgeries than this one (this was my 21st surgery since age 18), but this one was really mild. I had another surgery on my bad leg I injured when I was in the army last August and was pretty much confined to my bed until mid October. Even then there was a chance post-OP they may have amputated my left let below the knee due to complications. I was out and about the second day after surgery. My wife and I resumed "relations" on day 5. I've gone to the basketball courts with my oldest son. Done everything I would have done. I just share this to say your mileage may vary. Hopefully things get better for you Mrsdixon
