Knitchic got a reaction from Ruby Woo in Pre-surgery - Emotionally STUCK!
I too am sidetracked by the upcoming surgery on the 22nd. I am typically very hard working and dedicated, however, these days I can't seem to focus on anything but this surgery. I'm not worried about it. I fully understand everything involved but I can't stop thinking about it.

My surgery was Friday, September 25, 2015. Weighed at home 226.6. The only soreness was from the gas in my body, there was no other pain. I was nuisance the morning after surgery, but did not get sick. I did bruise a lot on left side lower incision. Research shows this could be where the camera and gas was inserted. Now I did stay to Sunday morning. I am doing my fluids, Vitamins, and Protein but it is hard to drink any more than a couple oz. At a time. I gained 12lbs of fluids while in hospital but as of today the 29th I am back to pre-surgery
weight. Time for my journey to begin.

Every anthem blue cross plan is different depending on who you are contracted through (employer, open market, etc). Some even have riders that say that don't cover any WLS. You have to check your particular plan. I was super lucky and didn't have to jump through any hoops except the pre op clearances. Got all those done in four weeks and a speedy approval.
Your friend needs to check her particular plan. If she seems to meet all the requirements and there is no rider saying they don't cover it, it's easy to appeal or request a "peer to peer" review where her surgeons office talks with a doctor who works for the insurance company.

Yeah I also had Anthem BCBS and did the 12 months with a MyActiveHealth coach. If she didn't do the MyActiveHealth bit, that may be the reason she was denied.

I graduate tomorrow from my program with BCBS and my insurance request will be submitted. I'll flip a lid if I'm denied. I've waiting 12months, plus a day. I've done everything they've asked. I still qualify by their terms. If I'm denied---it won't be pretty. Praying your friend can get answers. That's crazy she's done her part for a year and they said no.
My program was through BCBS with MyActiveHealth. I couldn't just have 12 months of MD visits. She needs to ask for her member handbook and find out exactly what was required. Did she have to use "their" people for the 12 month program maybe verses her MD?

Knitchic, I had the same experience but I had to pack and repack it myself. I agree with you, it was painful and my surgeon was very apologetic. I didn't think that I would be able to repack it myself each day but I got over being freaked out by it and it has healed nicely.

I GAINED 5 pounds my first week after surgery. Please do NOT try to compare yourself to anyone else's story. This is YOUR weight loss and YOUR body. Everyone is different. Comparing yourself will make you crazy!! I compare myself to my husband to a lady I work with to others that have had the surgery. Then I saw this thing that had 8 different women that weighed the same amount. Everyone looks different. As long as your are following your plan then it is a success.

Boneless chicken, 2-3 breasts or 4-5 thighs.
1 large can of pinto Beans
    can of corn
can of Rotel (your choice of heat)
    jar of your favorite salsa
Dump it all in and cook for 8-10 hours on low.
Serve with sour cream, salsa and tortilla chips (for the family)
If you are in a hurry, use canned chicken (rinsed) and it will cook in 4-6 hours.

As someone who rarely cooks is it weird that I am ridiculously proud of myself for digging out my slow cooker this week?

I have been thinking about investing in a 3 in 1 cooker, but since I rarely use my old-fashioned slow cooker I though I had better give it a whirl.

I raised my pantry and used a can of black Beans, two cans of Rotel tomatoes, one brick of Greek yogurt cream cheese, a few shakes of Mexican seasoning, and two frozen chicken thighs.

I made it on Monday and will probably still be eating it this Friday.

I still have chicken thighs. What EASY recipe should I try next?

I can now finally say I am on the losers bench! Surgery went great. The waking up in the recovery room not so much. The drain has caused quite a bit of pain.
I have managed to get about 2 hours sleep in between all the walking. I hope other 22nd peeps are recovering nicely!

I had the gastric sleeve plus a hiatal hernia fixed. I am nine weeks out. Yes, there was swollen tissue beneath the incision site. Most no longer have it now, one or two have the slightest thickness to them still. It is much less than before. You are going to have good days and bad days, but as the weight comes off, just focus on that and Celebrate it! I visit thrift stores to find my in between clothes. I have already dropped a bras size and had to get new underpants. I am losing about 6 pounds a week. I am at 40 pounds lost. You will get there too. As you start taking in food that is more solid, you will occasionally vomit. This is called early dumping. It's ok. Don't eat something new around others just as a precaution. The strange part is that it will be encased in a slime like liquid with high viscosity. To many this is weird, but it is normal. Your body has deemed it a problem, sent out cells to encase it and jettison the problem out. Sometimes there will be foam. Don't ask, I can't explain it. It's normal for those of us that had gastric surgeries. Even two years out you will occasionally have a foamy. Not sure why. I'm even in a pattern where I vomit once every other day. It is what it is. Like I said, just focus on the wonders of the weight loss. That is worth all the rest.

    A different perspective here ...
Some people (it's suggested in some threads that the majority of people) have very easy recoveries post-op. I certainly did. Check out this recent thread for a different perspective from those who didn't have many issues post-op:
    http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/351493-my-doctor-faked-my-surgery/
Either way -- whether you suffer post-op or have an easy ride -- you can take this to the bank: A few months down the road you will look back on the first few weeks post-op as no big deal because you'll be doing so well.
    Good luck to you all.
P.S. Oh, and @@Radar ... my surgeon cleared me for coffee on Day 10 post-op. But I don't drink as much coffee as I used to and don't miss the second, third and fourth cups at all.

Thanks every one. I'm now on day 9 and I feel 100 times better. I think I was just going through serious withdrawal. I feel really good now and I don't have to worry about work anymore until after surgery. The only thing I struggle with now is getting tired really fast but at least I'm not dizzy or nauseous anymore!

@@larac05 What you're feeling is TOTALLY normal! I had all of those same fears and worries and here I am, almost three weeks out, with one of the hardest parts behind me! I'm alive, I am complication free and I'm getting happier (and smaller!) with every day!
I won't lie to you and tell you that it has been easy, because I have been in a lot of pain and discomfort since the day I got out of the hospital, but this is my journey and not anyone else's! You just have to go into this with the mindset that no matter what happens, no matter how bad it hurts - IT WILL BE WORTH IT.
For me, the reward far outweighed the risks. I was slowly dying and I took this opportunity and saved my life! You will not be sorry
Keep your head up, look forward to the future and you'll be just fine! YOU GOT THIS!
