Pre-Op Cold Feet Due to Family's WLS Disapproval :(
trekker954 replied to Vagrant Violet's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Nickisleeve, it is serious surgery but for the most part sade and very common. Just research your surgeon that's he or she is board certified. Read reviews. My surgeon didn't have a lot of reviews, but he is chief of the department and known to fix others mistakes. I had the sleeve and gallbladder removed in about 30 minutes. His staff and residents think he's a God. Again with the right surgeon it's very safe Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
How many calories per day for a man who is 2 weeks post op?
trekker954 replied to RussT's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
You should not be counting calories at all. I was only allowed Protein, no veggies, no carbs, no fruit. But some can. Go with your surgeons directions. Mine 60 to 80 protein and at least 64 ounces of liquids. 2 weeks out, you will likely get neither but this is what you need to aim for, especially the Water. And at 2 weeks you should start your Vitamins. It's your JOB to get in that water to avoid landing back in the hospital for an IV. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Patience. Sounds like everyone has this stall. Mine lasted about 2 weeks, then I resumed losing weight at a steady rate and I'm melting away. Try NOT to weigh yourself every day. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

Few studies yet but plenty of raw data showing that patients who get pre op education are half as likely to regain more than half their weight loss at five years. I can't believe that Medicare pays for WLS but not for comprehensive pre op preparation. Oh, and while I'm here I was wondering when you people started to drink beer again. I'm 3 weeks out and could really go for a cold one... I.hope your joking about beer. I'm heading to Germany Wednesday but know beer has no future in my diet ever again and should not be in any bariatric patient. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

Pre-Op Cold Feet Due to Family's WLS Disapproval :(
trekker954 replied to Vagrant Violet's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Violet, my first insurance approval was Jan 2016, and let's just say I allowed a few bumps in the process as well as my adult children give me an excuse to not go through with the selected date. My children and I are close, many of our activities and vacations center around eating out, wine tours, world travel and cruising so they believed we would no longer have fun. I endured six months of kicking myself in the a** knowing that was my last chance at a healthy life. Again, my knees were hurting, I couldn't keep up. Traveling on planes, I was probably going to soon ask for seat belt extenders. Enough already. I called my surgeon back. They would need to reapply for insurance and with me on the phone, BCBS had 4 questions I had to answer correctly which thankfully I did. Surgery was scheduled for august. My kids are very supportive since I've lost significant weight. They have changed THEIR view. My daughter and I have attended two weddings, gone to Vegas, New York city, gone on a cruise, and leave for European Xmas market vacation Wednesday with my three kids. Follow your dream, be very strong, FOLLOW your surgeons plan to the letter to avoid complications (you don't need I told you so). I'm sorry I put mine off eight months but for me this has been a miracle. Glad I wasn't talked out of it. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Post Surgery Pain
trekker954 replied to TracyAnderson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was prescribed 40gm prilosec for 3 months and told I can stop after that. For the most part never had an issue unless I eat something really different and even then so far have never dumped. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
18 days Post Op and not sure if things are normal or not... Help! :)
trekker954 replied to Nicky6's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You mention fruits and vegetables. They were not on my plan during that phase, damn they are barely allowed now. I was mad when I'd read others allowed right away, but looking back I realized I had no issues progressing from phase to phase. Protein only and teeny tiny bites and chew it until liquid at least 25 times. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Your only job at this point is work hard on the two goals your WLC set for Protein and Water. As long as your in ketosis you'll be losing, but most WLC don't discuss this early on as most don't discuss calorie goals. I'm sure this will be discuss close to goal weight. At least that is my thought process. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

I'm always cold.
trekker954 replied to trekker954's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My colleague just told me the trick for the thermostat so I'm warming up. Lol Yes terrible insomnia. One reason I wanted this surgery was because I use to lie in bed at night tossing and turning either obsessing about food or wondering when my weight was going to kill me, and how I didn't want to die young. Honestly this kept me up many nights. Now I just have insomnia. My ambien isn't even working as well. DF is great except for the traffic. My hotel room is right over Reforma circle. Sunday they close it down for people to walk, bike, run, skate. My hotel lends out bikes, I hope to be there. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Heidicat is so right, this stage will go fast. But I too thought of it as my one job to get it all in to prevent ending up in the hospital with an IV. I wish I was as dedicated now. I find myself so busy some days that I realize I haven't had more than 32 ounces of Water. Yikes. Must work on that every single day. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

Genepro clumpy - how to mix
trekker954 replied to SOON_TO_BE_THIN's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I drink my coffee black. But use it in my coffee each morning. It sort of turns the color as if I've added a tad of milk. It I add extremely hot coffee I'll get some sediment floating so I try and let the coffee sit. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Genepro clumpy - how to mix
trekker954 replied to SOON_TO_BE_THIN's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
For hot you must put it in the bottom, then add hot liquid. For cold, add liquid then gene pro on top. Mix with fork Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
How Will This Thanksgiving Be Your Healthiest Yet?
trekker954 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I will be on a flight to Munich Thanksgiving Eve to start my XMAS market vacation. I land on Thursday but they don't Celebrate this holiday. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
I travel a lot so there isn't a whole lot of cooking. Once you are about a month out. Hopefully you can cook an egg. Add some cheese to it. This is pretty much my Breakfast. I do slot of turkey and cheese roll ups with a smere of hummus or guacamole I might get a chicken rotisserie and eat over a few days. Or if traveling order a good meal, take back leftovers. You won't starve. There are also many easy recipes online for Wls patients. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

The percentage of wls patients with complications is very small compared to successes. Just do your research. Pick a good doctor, if possible chose a center of excellence hospital. As far as insurance after wls. My brother sells life insurance and he told me no insurance company would touch me while in the process, but once I'm finished it would be fine. Come on, we are living a healthy lifestyle. I didn't know that about the military. Maybe it depends on which process. To me the sleeve left me with no complications and a year of follows up with my doctor and up to 12 visits with my nutritionist. As far as Vitamins, I use the PatchMD. Easy peasy. My labs came back fine. I put one on each night. I've never felt better. It's ultimately up to you in how you succeed in keeping the weight off. There are enough veterans on here years out still successful. More often than not, those at goal all say they wish they did it earlier. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

It can be exhausting to chew, chew, chew to liquid consistency but either my jaw is improving or I'm getting use to it as it isn't as bad now as it was say a month ago. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

Does anyone regret having surgery?
trekker954 replied to katragina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People regretting it because of the pre-op or liquid diet???? Or even pureed? Please!!! Even when I was living thru them, they seemed to have gone by fast. Now 14+ weeks out, and 60 lbs gone, those Phases are a distant memory. Not meant for those with complications, but if you did your research you should have expected it to be challenging for about two weeks, you should have known about sagging skin and hair loss. These too will pass, there is nothing to regret. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
It just doesn't taste the same. For me, who use to have a glass with dinner 5 times a week, it so odd now. The few times I've tried. I can only get in a couple of sips. I know someone who regain most of his weight a year after being sleeved, and he's back to drinking the same as before. I haven't asked him if it hurts to drink. I try and avoid talking to him about his regain. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

What exercises can I do in the meantime?
trekker954 replied to macon_me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You gals are lucky to firm up. At nearly 63yo, the sag and bat wings are there to stay. It doesn't really bother me but I'm still 30 lbs from goal. I walk a lot and bicycle. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Hands and Feet are itching like crazy.
trekker954 replied to lmason12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Many of us had/have itchy arms, hands, stomachs and I don't think it is a Vitamin allergy. Mine was mostly my entire arm. My NUT had no answers other than use vitamin e cream. I'm 14 weeks out and still have bouts of itchiness. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
What exercises can I do in the meantime?
trekker954 replied to macon_me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Walk. And for me as the weight melted away, it was my butt that went first but left saggy but flat. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
I had a teaspoon of tiramasu last week. My only taste of a sweet since early July. I was pleased that I put that spoon down, I didn't slide or spiral. I enjoyed it and didn't feel ill. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

Approval and Vacation
trekker954 replied to candis314's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will not be up for it and you'll ruin it for your family. Watching your family eat will not be an issue as you won't be interested in food that early out and nothing will look yummy. Postpone or send the family off without you. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
I was approved with 2016 requirements, which sounds like your list. I remember looking at the new 2017 and thinking glad I got mine this year. I can't remember what was different but do try and find it if your surgery is planned for 2017. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

3 Weeks Post Op - Are chips and Guacamole allowed?
trekker954 replied to iam_yamii's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm in Mexico this week for work. At the breakfast buffet, put a smidgen of refried beans on my plate. Ooooo, must be a chili in there. The guac was delicious though. I'm hoping the business lunch will have good offering of protein. I'll bring a packet of genepro with me just in case. As I progress, I notice I do get hungry if I go 3 hours without protein. At home this won't happen but on travel it does. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App
