Well..... decision made!
trekker954 replied to olliesoda's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish you hadn't just sent him a message and posted your response here. I am looking forward to what vets have to say. His life is my life. Travel extensively all over the world for work, love my wine, eat out a lot, worried about personality change. I hope others who reply do so here on the forum. He asked questions I have wondered about but haven't asked. My surgery is in 10 days -
What To Do Instead of Overeating

How about paint your TOEnails. I bet many of us had a hard tie reaching their toe before surgery. -
Should I be worried. Unknown Resident Doctor assisting or is it more?
trekker954 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I signed onto My Chart for a message. Posted was my August 10 surgery date and my surgical pre-op appt. Aug 5. My surgery notification (the date I already knew) said procedure performed by Dr. Rosenthal (the one I know) and Dr. Ganga. I had two doctors (I didn't even know) do my egd, so I should assume they'll be more than one doctor doing my sleeve. I couldn't find any info on him, other than he is a MD at Cleveland Clinic. From their site, I find he is in the Residency surgical program. My biggest fear when going into a teaching hospital is that I'll be handed over to a student. Is this common in a hospital clinic setting? I'm thinking I'm going to make sure I physically see Dr. Rosenthal before they put me under. Although to be honest, Dr. Rosenthal wears the thickest glasses I've ever seen. I did ask his nurse about his eyesight and she assured me its fine. Am I just getting too picayune and just chill out and be happy insurance is paying. -
Was wondering if everyone that has done the sleeve
trekker954 replied to Aaaaaa1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It may help you are trying to get insurance to pay. Many obese patients do snore, and may have apnea. I went for it, as it was just another added co-morbidities. I was diagnosed with an average case, but I'm sure it helped. I've never used a machine and have been put under anesthesia a few times without issues. -
I'm sure your doctor gave you the instructions. I don't know anyone's pre op diet that makes allowances for Alcohol. You may as well start taking this seriously NOW.

Gallbladder Removal Yesterday

Clindamycin prescribed by dentist 1 week prior to surgery
trekker954 replied to CDeLeon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
its obviously more important to let your surgeon tell you; but did you tell your dentist you were having surgery in a week? What did he/she say? -
Anyone looking at an August surgery date?
trekker954 replied to GoingRogue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I start my two week pre-op diet on Wednesday. My pre-op the first week is one protein shake and two "clean" meals (3-4 oz protein (chicken, or fish + a serving of vegetables). Second week 3 protein drink meal replacements + clear liquids AND the day before surgery no shakes, only clear liquids. I will be flying home the evening of my second day of the second week on all liquids So I've been on a work trip in a hotel for over a week with a somewhat kitchen. Overall the past month I was trying to keep the quantity of my food down, no carbs and gave up caffeine, but still eating some sweets. I thought I'd be better on this trip this first week, but have had probably more bread than ever (not sure why), well the hotel does give us breakfast and its a carb fest. If we eat out for lunch, I try and order somewhat healthy and box half of that for my dinner or snack. I did order a margarita yesterday and I was eating alone. Its one of the things I will miss, so I know I won't cheat come Wednesday. I think I'll miss York patty too. If I see one tomorrow or Tuesday, I guess I will indulge. I've prepared my hotel refrigerator for my pre-op; lots of protein ready to drink shakes (mostly chocolate) a couple of frozen atkins dinners. Some sliced turkey. I'm sitting here now, drinking a crystal light rather than go downstairs and buy ice cream. I bet if I put a lime in my crystal light, I can imagine its a margarita. -
I knew, and my surgeon's office listed all of BCBS requirements. I gathered all of the information I needed from my PCP, my long history of weight loss and gain under PCP care (had to be consistent of four months) I think I had a year. Three year history of being overweight (I think I got doctor visits notes for whatever but showed my weight going back to 2008 through 2015). PCP wrote up a very good referral for WLS. I did have to get some other clearances, but not for BCBS. Then per the surgeon, had to get the psych for insurance too. I did all the work making sure all the documentation was in order and delivered to the insurance girl to send in. I was approved within 2 days.

How long if diagnosed with sleep apnea will I have to wait for surgery? Or do I not have to wait?
trekker954 replied to Aaaaaa1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never got a cpap machine as I hope surgery will take care of my sleep apnea (I was diagnosed with it, but its a mild case) -
Anyone looking at an August surgery date?
trekker954 replied to GoingRogue's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have my surgeon pre-op visit Aug 5 @ 0930 and then @1030 with the Anesthesia department. I'm getting all my questions together because I know Aug 10, I'll be in la la land. Besides I get most of my answers on this forum. lol -
Waking up after surgery
trekker954 replied to Sherbear2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For twilight sleep they typically give you Propofol, but unlike Michael Jackson, you wake up feeling great. Now I know why he liked that drug so much. I've had it for orthorpaedic surgeries, EDG, cosmetic surgery and colonoscopy. I've found it relatively easy coming out of this type I could be wrong, but I think with a longer surgery such as WLS its something stronger. -
Why im not going thru with surgery
trekker954 replied to Pinkberry2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When my January date didn't happen due to hospital tests not coming back in time, I thought maybe this was fate and wasn't meant to be so I didn't give the hospital a reschedule date. I thought maybe I could do this on my own, "again." Instead of staying on my weight loss pre op diet where I had lost 18 pounds in January, I let loose and we all know what happens then; I never got back on track. I really didn't have time to reschedule due to work but by June, I knew I wasn't going to do this on my own. I had to hope my insurance would approve again, and they did thankfully. I'm now scheduled 8/10 once I get home from a work trip. Now I'm so worried, I'll have a cold, or my doctor will have the flu. I just want to keep my date this time without incident, because I don't like when "fate" intervenes. -
Do I need a warm body with me?
trekker954 replied to Unbridled's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone will drive me and I want them to leave. I'm the type I hate to interfere with their day. I'll have a book and my cell to entertain me. My adult daughter can come back after work and check in with me, maybe help me take a lap around the floor. Then come back for me when I'm ready to come home. I've decided how ever long the hospital will let me stay will be good as I have two big dogs at home who love me to pieces and I'm so afraid they'll jump on me while sitting and hurt me. Bcbs covers 5 days. I'd be good with 3 days. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Mental preparedness class?
trekker954 replied to Unbridled's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was 20 min of which mostly we talked about the psych's upcoming orthopaedic surgery. Lol. AND was charged $175. I actually wish I could have a mental preparedness class. I'm sure it's geared for wls patients. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Pulmonary test question
trekker954 replied to Aaaaaa1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a sleep study ordered bt my pcp, before I started the process and if helped for insurance. However, with that said, this specialist wanted me to have this or that test; ok it's good but please get cleared by this other specialist who would order a barrage of test. I truly felt because each test came back fine that it was all about how much money the hospital could get out of me and my insurance. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Go public or stay private?
trekker954 replied to gpjess's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My boss knows I'm having my gallbladder removed, I just haven't told her about having 85% of my stomach removed at the same time. lol I was planning on taking about 5 weeks off (I have about 4 months saved up sick leave (government) but have told her, that I will submit my leave once I'm a few days out. I already postponed this once. I could be sick, my doctor could cancel, so just told her to wait. I figured I might tell her about that time the totality of it. Just got word, that they want me in Haiti in early September. Hell NO. So I guess I'll be telling her sooner than later and I will tell my colleague (we travel in pairs), and hope they do not gossip. I hate office gossips. Yes my work involves A LOT of travel. But Haiti, I don't think I'll do that third world country a month out from surgery. My colleague without knowing my details has offered to take my meeting in Haiti for me. Another work trip late September to Vegas; I should be able to manage that just fine. And there are good hospitals just in case I'm in need. Yeah, I've already booked my full kitchen hotel room and will order up a blender for my mushy stage. -

Broth before surgery
trekker954 replied to Tommy s socorro nm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So is your throat sore because of the anesthesia tube or because of the wls. Do they send a camera down your throat also. I'm not quite understanding what causes the pain. How many days is it painful. Does it hurt during the leak test or are we so drugged up, it's not so bad? Sorry for hijacking the thread with my silly drinking questions but it's clearing up some fear. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Broth before surgery
trekker954 replied to Tommy s socorro nm's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I keep reading about how painful drinking is after surgery. I'm curious as my surgery is less than a month out. Does it feel like a knife when you have a sore throat. Even Water? What is the best method immediately after. I know straws are a no no. Those small 2 oz cups. What is a tiny sip, just wet your mouth? How soon can one progress to a water bottle or should I plan to sip from those 2 oz cups a while. I bought 2 oz and 5 oz cups. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
After I got my date, my surgeon's office said I need to get my primary care doctor to give me an exam and clear me for surgery. My surgery was postponed from january, I had a clearance from then, but needed it again. But the surgeons office had ordered my blood work and ekg a couple weeks ago. So I asked what does my PCP need or what is he doing. (BTW, I'm also scheduled for a pre-op appt with my surgeon and anesthesia a couple day prior to my august surgery). Anyway, she said you know just to check and make sure you aren't sick and it has to be within 30 days of surgery. So off I go Thursday for this appointment and sure enough, they want to see what his orders are. Of course trying to get the surgeons office at 8 am is near impossible. So it was a cluster. He did give me another ekg, accepted the blood work documentation I brought in, he also ordered a chest xray (because my previous one was from January. I left. The surgeon's office called back and told him they really just needed a check up. They were going to accept my old chest xray. I am glad I got an updated one and an updated ekg. The bottom line, is make sure you have some type of order that goes over to your primary. Another patient came in who was having orthopedic surgery and the same thing, the doctor made him call his surgeon and send over "the order" of what he needed done.

28 days away from surgery
trekker954 replied to sareenok's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a Walmart personal all but I know they carry alot of pre and post op products. After getting my chest xray at Elite I decided to go into the Walmart next door. I emerged 2 hours later and $200 short. I read every label. I stocked up on many Protein powders, ready-to drink Proteins, even singles to see which ones I like; powdered crystal light and snapples, I stocked up on broths, sugar free syrups for flavor, protein clear drinks, Vitamin drinks. I found it easier to shop there then say Vitamin Shoppe or GNC where it can be overwhelming and sales clerk single you out. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
