I was sent home from the hospital with liquid codine, cherry flavor, syrupy too sweet. I couldn't even stomach a sip of it, so I just hung in there. If I didn't move, I wasn't in pain. Next the prilosec they sent home in a capsule form, I have to open, first she said open into applesauce. I said well I can't eat that yet, only liquids, the pharmacists said okay, put it in warm tea. Well, those crystals don't dissolve, so now I shake some in my mouth and wash down with tea. But lets say I wasn't happy with this either. Luckily the anti nauseau pill (although they only gave me 10) melts in my mouth. I can't start any Vitamins until after my 2 week post op check up

How much did you lose the first week
trekker954 replied to izarigo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was weighed in the hospital the morning after surgery and gained six pounds. Yikes. My surgery was Wednesday morning. Its Saturday, I still feel crappy. I couldn't tolerate the pain med they sent me home with, sweet liquid thick syrupy codeine. I decide to deal with the discomfort as I honestly couldn't stomach taking the meds. It only hurts when I move. Other than that, its just slow intaking all the Clear liquids and Protein shakes. -

They didn't walk me until 1130 pm. I walked fine. I'm very sore on my left side so held that as I walked Unassisted. Medical student stopped in 530am, said she held the camera and the surgery went very well and quick. Stomach came out before gallbladder. She said the students were allowed to feel the GB sack, lol. Glad I was able to contribute to their education. I had blood drawn at 6 and rounds start at 615. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Just had my pre-op "hosptial" appt surgeon & Anesthesia
trekker954 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In case any of you wondered what to expect. Of course I wasn't going to see my surgeon, he's too busy/important (I will see him Wednesday), but I saw his nurse and then one of the resident surgeons who I hate to say, did not instill confidence whatsoever. The nurse went over everything, was able to answer all my silly questions. Assured me the doctor will do the surgery and not the resident. Actually she herself had a gastric bypass 10 years ago, and gave me some tips (the usual ones we find here on this forum). She had me sign some more papers. She didn't have the gallbladder removal, so she went back in the computer and found that, and added it. ugh. The document did list that it was a laparoscopic sleeve with 5 incisions, or (possibly open) don't recall the exact wording. She said that is on every surgery "just in case". Not like they can wake you up if they run into a problem. I was okay with that. She gave me a pre op and post op instructions 2 pager (again, the typical stuff their nutritionist gave me months ago) I asked her about washing with hibiclens the morning of. She said that isn't necessary. To shower as usual in the morning. She said they do tell patients to wear clean clothes after showering in the morning to the hospital. (not worn before). She went into detail how the operating room staff will be putting something on my body to sanitize. I'm been dreading the dye drink leak test, but the nurse said they no longer do that. I was surprised to hear that. Maybe they check it another way, forgot to ask her that. After the nurse left, one of the resident surgeons came in. He just had it all wrong. Wanted to schedule me for surgery (I was scheduled a month ago (scheduled this Wednesday). Told me the wrong surgeon's name. (another doctor in the practice). So he went on to say, that there are three resident surgeons that the bariatric surgeons work with and one of them will be with my doctor during my procedure. I truly hope it isn't him. Then off to my anesthesia pre-op. This department was running about 30 min. late. ugh. He just wanted to know all of the clearances I had, if I had any list of issues, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, a slew of things. He determined I was healthy, checked my neck range of motion,, looked in my mouth, down my throat visually. Discussed the general anesthesia protocols. I asked him how long the surgery may take as how long I'd be under. He asked what doctor I was having, and when I responded, he said, OH, one hour, he's the best. I was happy to hear that. I brought up my surgeon thick eyeglasses. He laughed and told me the surgeon eye sight is fine, besides, he said my stomach is going to be on the best high definition gigantic screen in the OR. Funny, I know what laparoscopic is, but I didn't really think about the monitor it displays on. He did say all bariatric patients go to this one area for recovery, because so many obese patients have undiagnosed sleep apnea, so they need more nurses monitoring them while coming out of anesthesia. then I was sent to the lab for one more surgical test - a blood type screen test. then I came home and put most my Post-op stuff in one place, rather than squired away in between my families food. (see photo) I think I'm ready!!!! -

Had my surgery yesterday, feeling much better today!
trekker954 replied to Amurillo04's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got my call - 6 AM tomorrow morning checkin at the ER, because admitting isn't even open yet. I can guarantee, my doctor will likely stoll in around 9. They wouldn't say what time the surgery actually begins. Just that I need to be there at 6 a.m. -

I'm waiting for my phone to ring from the hospital. They will call today to tell me what time tomorrow and do some preliminary hospital admission details. Excited yet so scared. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
Isn't that stitch annoying you? I've had surgeries where I found a random stitch after the opening was closed, even a couple on my upper eyelid blepharoplasty and my surgeon was far away. My friend took a tweezer and they just slid out.

Its probably because you haven't had real food yet. Aren't you still on shakes. I've been on shakes for two weeks now, Clear liquids today, tomorrow surgery and then another two weeks of only liquid. I'd imagine, we all crave real food. I am hopeful once we move to mushies/soft the new pouch will work plus we should find satisfaction is "real" Protein vs. liquid form.

If you hate saying things about others appearances, then don't. Don't take your anger out on the new girlfriend. He cheated on you, be disappointed and mad at him if you want; but she doesn't deserve your anger. Sounds like the relationship was over a long time ago, let it go and try and find a happy place in your life. Maybe this is a good thing and you can move on knowing that he is.

Yes, I did buy mine in Walmart. I really love the caramel. I do plan to hit up Price Club later to pick up the chocolate. I totally forgot people said they can't find the caramel there. I've never liked any vanilla shakes regardless of the brand. the Syntrax Peanut Butter cookie was so yummy -

Vitamins & Supplement Questions
trekker954 replied to SleeveG's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I buy it right here, Bariatric Pal store (click on the Store link on top of this page). You wear it 8 hours. I bought the b-12 one also. Other than that, my other Vitamins, I've gotten the BariMelts at various locations, also amazon. You can wear two of the Patches at the same time. -
BTW GENEPRO is very high Protein.

Vitamins & Supplement Questions

I plan to use the patch MD Multivitamin. I hate taking Vitamins and this is just a patch specifically made for bariatric patients. Its probably a little more money (I really have compared). People are reporting their blood tests are coming back fine. -
Liquid Diet Tips?
trekker954 replied to pixystix0116's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think avoiding hunger, is all about the spacing of your shakes and Clear liquids in between. I'm kind of surprized that I didn't go off the deep end. Granted months before I got off caffeine. Now that was the week from hell. For me its not about "getting in my protein". My plan is 3 Protein shakes replacement meals must be at least 20 grams, Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Mostly they are 30 grams, once in a while I'll have the muscle milk one that is 42 grams and my slim fasts are 20 grams. Mostly I drink the ready to drink and they are 11 ounces. I'm start with a decaf tea and then a broth in between one, lots of Water, and a frozen SF Popsicle. I tend to be hungry around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, so I'll have a clear liquid. The best way to avoid hunger is to just keep busy. two days ago, I packed up all my fattest clothes for Goodwill. I've already dropped 19 pounds. Today is my last day of shakes. Tomorrow its all clear liquids to end the day with 30ml of milk of magnesia. (YUCK . I'd imagine tomorrow will not be a good day for me. I'll be teleworking today and tomorrow. I find that much better so I'm not around others eating, talking, planning what they'll be eating for lunch. -
Anyone Aug 12th surgery?
trekker954 replied to ktk123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
10th for me. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App -
I tried GENEPRO the other day, put it in some chicken broth and all I tasted was the chicken broth. There were no clumps or weird taste. I was very happy. I purchased unflavored in order to put it in other things. I'm pretty okay with most ready to drink Protein shakes.

Keto stick test - do we remain in ketosis post op?
trekker954 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
After being on this pre-op a week and a half, as well as weight dropping daily, I was curious and pulled out my keto sticks (from previous diets) and wow, i was off the charts. It was darker than the darkest sample. I guess that's a good thing. So once we start eating a healthy normal, do we remain in ketosis until we introduce the dreaded carbs back in? -

trekker954 replied to trekker954's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Shelterdog, that would be awesome. Its weird, because in my "handbook" they gave me, there is a section dedicated to What to expect in the Hospital and there is an entire two paragraphs dedicated to the Leak Test with the dye, the morning following the surgery. Now granted, this book might be old. I'm hoping not, but clearly I want them to make sure I'm not leaking before I leave the hospital.
