  1. I felt the same fear you have right now. At my 3wk mark, I stalled and my stall lasted almost 3 wks! I went into my NUT visit feeling like an utter failure until she told me she wasn't worried and I just needed to up my protein to cover my activity! She was right! As soon as I added a second protein drink in my day my weight went right down again! Just be patient and give your body what it needs and it will do what it needs to do. You will start losing again, just be patient and for me, I know I have to be very careful with carbs at all otherwise it knocks me right out of ketosis every time.
  2. I had rny on Nov 9th and as of today(yesterday actually) my pants that were a laughing stock and wouldn't go over my knees are now on my waist and closed! I tried them on last week and I could get them up but not closed and this week, they are closed! So excited! I changed out all of my clothes in my closet too and bagged and tagged the old stuff that is too big for the Goodwill! I have lost 1 pant size and 2 top sizes now! It's starting to get exciting!!! ☺️

    CONSULTATION

Most of what happens will depend on insurance requirements. For me, at my first appt, I was weighed, we went over diet history, I talked to the NUT and had to give a rough accounting of my daily eating habits-don't worry, a crappy diet is a good thing because it shows that you need help. Then after that, we talked about weight loss goals and which surgeries would be a good choice. When I left, they pulled my insurance info and told me I would be doing the 90 day program(which scares the crap out of me because I had already wrapped myself up in the idea of a 6 month supervised diet). It was all pretty straight forward for me. 90 days, 4 NUT visits, 1 psych eval, no weight gain and we worked on little changes to make to my diet and exercise at each NUT visit, and then there was a class on life post surgery as far as eating and vitamins etc and that was it! I had my surgery 11/9 and so far so good!
  4. My NUT told me not to color my hair for the first 3 months because it's vulnerable to damage and coloring will cause more damage. It's hard for me to hear I shouldn't but I'm willing to wait, because I had a bad bleach job that melted off my hair and I'd rather not melt my hair off again. I've already got breakage.
  5. Just don't be hard on yourself. Give yourself time to heal and don't jump on the scale the day you get home. Allow yourself to heal and be kind to yourself. There's a bit of an emotional ride when you get home and smell the first meal you can't eat.
  6. I would just say that at this point, there's not a whole lot you can do to "fix" it. What is done is done. Just go into your appt and be open and honest with the surgeon. There's a chance he might cancel your surgery or post pone it, but I think the better bet is he'll just tell you to go on your liquid diet now and not fret about it. Unfortunately holiday weight gain is a problem that led many of us down this path and the only cure is to not to...which is easier post op.
  7. they would just be sitting there unfortunately. I've got a lot of sizes to get there yet
  8. I absolutely LOVE this whole thing! ???? the picture of the log in the toilet really sealed the piece though! ❤️

    Please analyze my stall

you can get some flavor enhancers that Don't have aspartame. They are harder to find, but I found a couple that have a blend of Splenda and stevia.
  10. that's so funny because awesome sauce is what I call ranch dressing and my toddler has started calling it awesome sauce too now! ????
  11. I'm keeping the pair I wore to my first appt to use for the "Pants over Skyridge" event at our hospital when I reach my goal. They take a pair of before and after sizes pants and write a bio and it's really cool.

    post-op poops!

No, no effect one way or the other for me, but the probiotics helped to keep me from getting backed up. I take one daily.
  13. Chew ice. That's how I got through it! Post op I wanted to kick food and taste stuff so bad, but the ice was a win win because I was chewing and I got more water in than I would have!

    Storage for pre op shake

You could just buy premier protein already made and then just tote it in a lunchbox with an ice pack. I don't much care for premier, but it does work if you do.

    Colorado ladies?

@@2muchfun you don't look like Kelly in your pic...did you post the info about pants across Skyridge for her?

    post-op poops!

I had my gallbladder out in 2002, so it wasn't a factor in my surgery.

    Colorado ladies?

how cool! Are you using National Bariatrics/Dr Chae? He is awesome! Very nice guy and very caring and his nutritionist Kelly is awesome! We probably talk too much at our appts, but I love her to death! Ok, the surgery itself wasn't bad at all. I did a 90 day program with Kelly to prepare for surgery and she really prepared me for everything post op. The surgery went fast. He was done in 90 mins or less. It helped that I already had my gallbladder out years ago. Everything was straight forward. I had trouble breathing from the pain meds so my oxygen was low, but once I was off them, I was fine! I went home not needing pain meds. I had 4 tiny holes and a drain hole. I got my drain out 10 days later. So, I'm 1 month out now, I've lost 1 pant size so far, but I was starting from a really high weight, so it's going to take awhile, but it was totally the best decision I've ever made!

I would recommend getting some flavor enhancers for you water or cut some lemons and put in your water to help increase your liquids. Decaf tea is another option but that 64oz of fluid is super important! Also like some have said jerky at this stage is definitely not going to be productive and you should limit your fruit and veg until you've reached your minimum protein requirement. Also very important this early on to track and actually measure everything you eat because portion distortion is real and you need to stay at 2oz per meal 3x a day. My advice on protein shakes is to keep trying different kinds and flavors. I am lactose intolerant post op so I have had a time finding something I can tolerate, but syntrax nectars work well and aren't heavy or sickening chocolate or vanilla concrete like most of them. I buy syntrax twisted cherry and have 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening before bed.

    Using the bathroom

I'm 1 month out and my first post op poo was 8-9 days later and it was horrifically hard and painful. After that, I went to taking a strong probiotic daily and now I'm good! Not every day good, but every other day and it's soft and not painful at all. I highly recommend probiotics!

    Eating 13 days post op

I understand your fear. I had it too directly post op. I drank an entire mug of chicken soup broth strained of noodles in like 15-20 mins with no problem. I was like OMG my pouch is too huge or I stretched it out or what if I burst it open and all that liquid in my drain is actually chicken broth! ???? I spent a lot of time looking and obsessing about it, but ya know, liquids roll right out the pouch, but when you get to purée you'll physically feel the difference when you eat. I'm on soft foods now and will transition to trial and error full diet on Christmas Eve. Honestly, I can't even hold a full 2oz and I was so worried in the beginning!

    No pre-op diet?

I didn't have one prior to my rny in Nov either and when he didn't give me one, I asked him why. He said that it has shown not to be that effective at shrinking the liver or making the surgery any easier and all it did was put undue stress on the patients. He also said that the general consensus is that the liquid diet is complete useless unless you had a 600lb patient or something and that would be just to help them get their weight to a lower start to prevent complications associated with that extra weight. He said that he believes the majority of surgeons will be dropping the liquid pre op diet over the next couple of years.

    Weight loss prior to surgery

Your insurance will probably dictate what and how much you have to lose. My insurance (Aetna) required that I have no net weight gain for my 90 day program. I did better than that. My NUT helped guide me through and I put a nice dent in my weight pre op. I went from 429 down to 386 on surgery day and it didn't feel like I was dieting. It was more of a ok, this month I want you to leave 10% food on your plate and eat protein first and legs aim for 10 mins of exercise 3 days a week. Then the next month we worked on it and went to leave 20% and exercise for 20 mins 5x a week and so on. It really helped. For me, I can usually lose 5-10lbs dieting before it stalls out, so to lose as much as I did and not even have a liquid pre op diet is amazing! I'm now 1 month out and have lost over 70lbs since that first appt in late June. It's been wonderful!

    I won't regret this...right?

Leading up to my surgery, I became a basket case! I couldn't sleep well, I was worried about things going wrong and my biggest fear was that I would die and leave my 7 kiddos without a mom. The day of surgery though, I walked in there and I was zen. I don't know if it was the prayers to God to take away my fear and protect me and my family through the surgery or if it was just some inner peace or whatever, but when I went back for surgery I was absolutely calm and cool and had 0 fears. My surgery went smooth except for some trouble staying oxygenated after waking up from the pain meds suppressing my breathing, but really my recovery was quite easy! I went home without needing any pain meds. I'm 1 month out as of Dec 9th, and I don't regret it at all! I'm down 2 top sizes and one pant size and I can move around more and do more and I feel great! There is a period right after surgery where I had regret because I had to deal with my head hunger and my "we always do this" attitude, but it got better. It really is like being reborn to some degree.
