Weight gain in hospital post op

It's very common. Do yourself a favor and stay off the scales for a couple of weeks because it may take awhile to get back to where you started. You just had surgery and that comes with IV fluids and swelling so don't torture yourself.

    Pre Op testing before RNY

At my pre op testing, all I had was a blood test, my weight taken, temp taken, and the world's shortest EKG. Literally he hooked it up and as soon as it started tracing on the paper it was over. That was it. I've been relatively healthy inspire of my weight, so he didn't feel any more tests were needed.
  3. I have a power pressure cooker xl. It's no where near as efficient as my stove top canner/pressure cooker was, but it gets the job done eventually I! LOL I use it more as a crock pot than the pressure cooker since it took as long to pressure cook a chicken as it does to roast one in the oven. If you are going to get one, I hear instapot makes a good one.
  4. I apparently don't dump either. I learned it by accident when I was making what I thought would be a better dessert for Easter dinner that I could maybe taste and not make everyone feel uncomfortable with me just starring longingly at their desserts. I made a cream cheese pie with fruit on top, but it had sweetened condensed milk in it that had 22g of sugar per tablespoon and after I made it, i licked the spoon, the bowl, and really just couldn't stop eating it and then I looked at the label of the sweetened condensed milk and freaked out. But no dumping. I was pretty disappointed especially since my roux arm was extended as far as my insurance would allow to help curb my sugar junkie ways. Now I just need to be careful and not fall of the wagon. It really is like a drug to me and if I know, or think I know there's no consequences, I'm afraid it'll be harder to say no to the singing siren.

Can I stay alone after RNY?

Everyone is different, and there's always the chance for complications, but by the time I got home, I would have been ok to take care of myself if I had to, but I was so tired that I needed my hubby to wake me up to take my meds and drink my drinks. Maybe a friend would be willing to stay overnight for the first night or something just so you know if it's something you can handle.
  6. Hi..what kind of insurance do you have? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using the BariatricPal App I have Aetna and from the time it was submitted to approval was about 3 days in total. Just keep calling them to check on the status. It seems to hurry it along.
  7. My surgeon was amazing! I was geared up expecting to be talked down to-as I have been in the past, but I didn't have that experience with my surgeon. He was kind, caring, thorough and never made me feel like I was a loser or less of a human being for being in my condition. My PCP was also amazing and she was so happy for me when I walked in her office for my yearly checkup over 100lbs lighter than last year.

to snack, or not to snack?

My program doesn't allow snacking. We are suppose to eat 2-3 meals a day and if we feel the sensation of hunger to drink more water and try distraction, but no snacking.

    Bread

Sprouted bread isn't doughy and won't gum up the pipes. I was using it, but since I seem to be carb sensitive,I've had to change course and drop all that and just go with basic plain protein and leafy veg til I can break my stall.
  11. For each 25lbs, I buy a piece of jewelry. Either a ring, a bracelet for my new smaller wrist, a necklace or something that costs the amount I lost so for 25lbs I bought a $25 ring and for 50lbs I bought a $50 ring etc. the day I reach my personal goal of 170lbs, will mean I can buy something $269 [emoji4]

    Premiere Protein drinks

It didn't cause dumping and won't, BUT it did taste really aweful and the taste was so bad post op, that I couldn't make myself drink it without heaving.
  13. You will lose in your own way, in your own time. I've lots a crap ton in my face, neck(I now have one again), upper body, and butt, but as far as belly and thighs, they are going a lot slower. It's to be expected since I'm a 7 time mom and have been resistant to weight loss for a long time. It will come off. It just takes time.
  14. I've changed, but not in a bad way. I am definitely more out spoken, more sure of myself, and I take more effort in how I look. When I was 429lbs my only consideration for clothes was "does it fit around me" and is it clean. Now I actually try stuff on in stores and can pick and choose what I want to wear and yes, I may be a bit of a diva overdressing to go grocery shopping, but I love dressing this body up and the positive reactions I get from people just makes me want to dress up more. Who knows what I will be like when I reach my goal, but I'm sure I'll love her!

    Buying Bras Post Surgery

I'd rather buy a couple of good bras and heavily rotate them, than wear a lesser quality bra that will have you miserable on the way down. If you plan it right, you can get good deals at Lane Bryant on bras. I just bought 2 this past week for around $40 total and then had real women dollars to cut it down even more.
  16. Most insurance doesn't require a co morbidity if you are over 40bmi. I didn't have any. No sleep apnea, no diabetes, no high blood pressure, nothing. All I had was the super high BMI and they approved me right away.

    Down how many dress sizes

updated...Still a work in progress here as well. Started at 32/34 and those were TIGHT before surgery Nov 9th and as of right now(May 10th) I'm 20/22 on bottom and 18/20 on top and could and should go buy some smaller ones real soon.
  18. not mine. Mine allows all the things that I was eating. I haven't fallen off my plan at all. I'm allowed to have bread if I can tolerate it. I also opt for sprouted bread and not like whitey white bread that turns to gum paste in the intestines. I'm allowed to have tortilla in small amounts as long as I get my protein in first. Same with fruit.
  19. So for over a month I've been in this stall. 1lb up, 1lb down, 1lb up, and 1lb down. Then, I had a 3lb weight gain over 2 days! [emoji33] I called my NUT and we went over what was going on. I've been trying to deal with a torn knee, being on cortisteriods for that which make you insanely hungry, not being able to do any lower body exercise because of that and lupus flaring up which we have found out is liquefying my knee joint, so we've had to up and change meds to try to get it under some sort of control. But all that doesn't excuse the weight gain. It's merely running tandrum to my weight gain. The weight gain, is coming from the fact that little carbs are sneaking in. 1/4 of a tortilla here, starchy veggies like peas here, maybe some corn in my tortilla soup there, etc. a half a slice of bread for a sandwich. Apparently some of us are really highly sensitive to carbohydrates so my NUT wants me to cut out all carbs and fruit and go strictly with plain protein and leafy greens. No fillers and see if that will help. What I wanted to share is that if your stall is going on this long, you might just need help sorting out your diet or something and while a week or two is normal, over a month is NOT normal especially when you are only 4 months out and have an obese person yet to lose. So, if you find yourself where I am, please follow up with your NUT.. It could save you from never reaching your goal.
  20. I'm not eating foods I shouldn't be eating. I was eating foods from my plan. I'm allowed to have 1/4 of a tortilla, or a piece of sprouted bread or fruit as long as I've had my Protein first. I'm following my plan. I also take measurements every week and I wasn't losing inches or lbs. it was completely nothing. I know part of it is because of the steroids and part of it is because I have had to scale back my exercise to things I can do without legs like upper body weights.
  21. I agree Djmohr, my NUT wanted me to eat a balanced diet including things like whole wheat tortillas and sprouted bread and fruit. Just Protein first, veggies second and any room leftover was for the fruit and or carbs, but since my stall, we're revamping and trying to get it going.
  22. it was the best decision for the sl current problem. I have lupus and my knee joint has liquified, so it's a cautious forward we are going using the steroids til my insurance will approve a more permanent treatment.

    Any Dr. Snyder-Denver

I don't know anything about Dr Snyder, but I had Dr Chae and he was an awesome surgeon! He does surgeries at St Joe and Skyridge.
  24. Just because you aren't a fan of it pre op, doesn't mean post op you won't like them. I can't remember when the last time pre op was that I ate an egg. They just never did it for me, but post op, I love eggs and eat them every week. Dairy still isn't my friend except cheese....I love cheese especially on my eggs! lol just be open minded post op into trying things you might not have liked before. Your taste buds really do change and you may find things taste better post op.
