I have been heavy all my life. I can remember my mom putting on the Diet Center diet when I was 12 years old. It only got worse from there. My entire teen years I was technically considered obese.
I have always been fortunate enough that I could kind of hide my obesity. I was very active in my younger years so more muscle mass and toned...however as I aged that all changed. I really have never been much for dieting...and it always seemed that when I lost weight I would gain back more anyways and I had talked myself into believing that yoyo dieting like that was worse than being fat so why bother.
About 10 years ago I hit somewhere in the mid 400's for my weight and knew I needed to do something...I tried many diets and failed. I looked into the surgery and unfortunately my providers had exclusions on it and I could not afford self pay so just did the best I could with dieting.
In 2012 I went to Dr. because I could not see...she ran a blood sugar test and it was in the 400's. My A1C was 13..apparently that is not good (I was unaware of diabetes issues). But the side effect of this high blood sugar was I lost about 100lbs...that took me down to 350ish area.
I have been taking meds for the diabetes ever since and (personal victory) have kept that weight off. I still was miserable though...the diagnosis was shocking and I now I wanted the surgery even more badly.
After a couple of job changes I happened to end up working at a hospital in October. I right away checked to see if they offered the WLS and much to my surprise and happiness they did. I finished my move to the new area with my family and finally made my appointment.
I went to the consultation on June 23 and recieved my insurance approval letter on July 3rd. My surgery is scheduled for October 22 (wish it could be sooner but due to work had to push off until then).
I quit smoking at beginning of August to prepare. I have to do the 2 week pre-op liquid/1 small portion meat/veggie a day on October 7. I am so excited I can barely contain my self.
I am looking forward to adding more of the WL as it happens in the coming months and years.
