Amount of food @ 6 months Post Op....
pmanley replied to Thecloude1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can do about a cup of denser food pretty easy...I am a little over 9 months out. -
I get a runny nose and feel like I want to vomit...sometimes do. oh...and i will hiccup sometimes
-
I started losing my hair at about 2.5 months...it has slowed a bit now and i'm 8months out...protein was key for me...i up my Protein and it seems to slow the loss and I can see regrowth so it will come back. I was blessed with thick hair to start with so no one but me notices..except for on my clothes...you can see it there

Stop smoking...it is the worst thing you can do after surgery. I work in the OR of a hospital and have seen the most horrible cases of the results of continual smoking after their gastric by-pass. I actually quit 2 months before surgery and up until about a month ago wanted to start and then I seen what the long term effects of smoking were on the pouch...not good...quit...it is very serious the complications.

It is funny that I would see this post today. I was just telling husband that every time (every day) I put on my size 18 pants I look at them and think *who am I kidding...these aren't going to fit* and then as if by magic the slip on and button...I don't see myself as smaller either. I don't dwell on it but it is very real and hard to get over. I made myself go and buy clothes that fit so that I can get used to being the new smaller me. The struggle is real! Congrats on the weightloss...keep it up!

First off congratulations on the NSV...this is just the start for you and it will just keep getting better...I too have had that NSV but now I have a different issue...you see I bought my car before my surgery and was much bigger....I pretty much bought the car that I could fit in and now I am having problems because the car is getting too big for me...but not complaining

I'm worried I won't meet the set goal for preop diet
pmanley replied to Katrinakit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
STOP STRESSING!!! I was the same way only I had quit smoking and gained 17 lbs and had to lose that in addition to the 15 the surgeon wanted me to lose. Just relax...your body produces cortisol when you stress and that will make your body think its in a crisis and hold on to fat...take a breath...relax...your presurgery diet is mainly to shrink your liver enough so the surgeon can do procedure laprascopically...you will be fine...follow your program, switch to the premier shakes if you can they are better for you and just relax. I did...on surgery date was down exactly what i needed to be...you will be fine. See you on the loser bench! -
Can Gastric Bypass Surgery Put Diabetes in Remission?
pmanley replied to James Marusek's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My A1C at pre-op was a 6.5 and I have not taken any meds since 2 months prior to my surgery and have not had a high BS testing since then...I would have to say it assisted me into going into remission..but I think that is only because of the different food choices I have made. Pre-op was on atkins (carbs less than 20) and since surgery only meat and small portions of green veggies so I think that has more to do with it. -
7 months post op and stil not tolorating some foods
pmanley replied to JacksdadShane's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am 6 months post op and have had and continually have problems with turkey and pork (i.e., chops or roast)....too heavy for me in the pouch...also have probs with certain nuts like cashews...ok with this just hope someday I will be able to eat pork chops again. But if not oh well -
I drink coffee daily...my surgeon would rather I don't but I have had no problems with it...personally if it were to make my pouch hurt I would stop but I will not give up my only habit until that happens.

I wanted to share a NSV that I had last night...I attended a pre-conference event at our church and decided that I wanted to take notes...for the first time I think EVER I was able to lay the book on my "lap" and write..then amazingly I did not have to move the book when finished I just left it there and when i needed to write again could...that was an amazing feeling. I am feeling so blessed and thankful!

Handling emotions?
pmanley replied to shadowsoldier's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am with you...I am 4 weeks out as well and it seems like I'm on a roller coaster of emotions. I just try to remember what brought me to having the surgery and how excited i was and then remember that its not going to be like this forever...you can do this...you will do this! Hang in there! -
My nut told me that i would be experiencing all kinds of noises from the stomach area early on...she said it was normal.

Congratulations and welcome to the loser bench. I am almost 3 weeks post op and have had a very easy recovery. I hope the same for you. Again congratulations!

Weight lost during pre-op diet.
pmanley replied to donnamarie_RNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost over my 2 week pre-diet and I have lost 15 lbs required by my doctor...however the scale that I have to weigh in on Thursday has me only losing 7 so not sure how that is going to work....guess i will have to see and I still have a couple more days so hopefully that scale will go down a few more lbs especially after the colon cleanse I need to do day before. -
I feel the same way...I have my surgery on Thursday and I have been trying to talk myself out of it....the change in my life style is what freaks me out...you know I have been obese forever (truly forever)...I have to remind myself that this is the best thing for me and I will be fine...so will you. Just think about all the reasons that you want/need the surgery and focus on how much better you will feel and look. Good luck to you!
