Make my self throw up?
leanne1126 replied to curlysue86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi there! I've unfortunately done that more often than I'd like to admit. It know it's not good but if it help relieve the discomfort it's worth it. For me, still even at over a year out, the difference is a bite or two. I still need to tell myself to stop eating before I get to that point of discomfort. The frequency definitely decreases over time though... -

@@leanora27801 How long did it take for your to hit 200 lbs? I've been stuck at 120 down for a while now and my 1 year anniversary is May 1st. Any suggestions on what you did to break through your plateaus? -

How about some NSVs!?!?
leanne1126 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Since my surgery May 1st I am no longer taking BP medications (those were discontinued within the first month of surgery), I am currently weaning off my heartburn meds and I no longer use my CPAP! I can't believe how great I feel. I get easily frustrated since I've been at the same weight for some time now but I look at these NSVs and it helps keep things in perspective! -

Any Pittsburghers?
leanne1126 replied to claddagh66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello there! I'm actually from around DuBois and went to McGee for my surgery. I see Dr. Gisele Hamad, she and her team are awesome. I'm 9 months out and have lost about 120 lbs since I started my diet, about 90 since surgery in May. I too wanted to have the sleeve but Dr. Hamad felt that the bypass would be the best option for me. I had a lot to lose plus I had GERD. With the sleeve there is no guarantee that I wouldn't continue to have issues. I am so happy with my decision and feel awesome! It definately is a lifestyle change and I exercise like there's no tomorrow. I go to spin classes, zumba and toning several 4-5 days a week, sometimes double classes. I would have never thought that I could do these activities. I hope that you have the same success and ability to feel awesome.! -
I only took mine for 6 months as well. It's expensive and was happy to be done with it!

Ladies Question...
leanne1126 replied to tdawntaylor's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same thing happen. I got my period shortly after surgery. I hadn't had it for years due to my Mirena. I will be 8 months post op on 1/1/16 and my periods are starting to slow down again and be 'regular'. I had quite a bit of irregular and breakthru bleeding there for a bit. Very frustrating!! Good luck! -
Amusing, here is your laugh for the day.
leanne1126 replied to winklie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well @@winklie the 'padding' doesn't do squat in a spin class. My back end is always sore! Lol...I'm hoping my spining helps tone what I got going on back there.... -

leanne1126 replied to shyanne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to pick up my little cousins at daycare on Friday after work for my aunt. When I got there they asked to see my ID to verify I was who I said I was and permitted to get the kids. The daycare worker did a few back and forth looks at the ID and me. She didn't believe that it was me and was quizzing me on the info on my driver's license. It was was good feeling to know that I've lost so much weight that my license is unrecognizable! It's not renewable until 11/2017 so it should be interesting how different I look by then!! -
What to do with old clothes?
leanne1126 replied to LibrarianBecky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I usually donate my clothes but given the drastic amount of weight that I'm losing, I'm having difficulty keeping in smaller stuff. Right now I'm keeping all of my bigger clothes in totes and I may have a yard sale in the summer and use that money toward some new clothes. I'm hoping by next summer I'm closer to my goal and won't be wasting money on clothes that I'm just going to be getting rid of again. I work in a hospital and have to dress so most of my clothes are nicer and hopefully I can get something decent for a huge wardrobe! -

Even when I was skinny years ago, I had a butt! I'm losing but my 'bubble butt' is still with me. I don't think that I can do enough zumba, walking, toning, and spin to get rid of it!! Be happy yours are melting away!! -
Change of plans..
leanne1126 replied to sassyfrass23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One other thing to keep in mind is that you are not guaranteed to unable to have sweets. I'm 6 months out have not yet dumped and as @Djmhor mention also, she doesn't dump. It can be tempting to have the sweets knowing that it's not an issue. Try to stick to the diet and keep your goals in mind :-) -

Hi there! I had my bypass May 1st and initially the sleeve was what I wanted. My surgeon did the same and recommended the bypass. I'm happy with my decision for bypass and agree with the other comments and responses. I'm down 111 since I started my diet last fall and 82 since surgery may 1st. Good luck!! -
I just had my 6 month post op appt on Tuesday. My surgeon gave me a script for routine labs. As it turns out, my Iron is low. As a result I'm going to start taking another iron supplement at bedtime along with Vitamin C to help with absorbtion. I have to have another blood draw in 6-8 weeks to ensure that my levels are up and I don't become anemic. Ironically, my other levels, B12, Calcium etc were fine. Has this happened to anyone else? I just find it odd that I can absorb the calcium, D and B12 just fine and the iron is low.

Day 13 of Period -- Ugh.
leanne1126 replied to QuilterGal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ask your OB-GYN about being on the pill versus another form of birth control. Part of the issue may be the inability to absorb correctly. I'm no expert by any means but I was told by my surgeon that I can't take pill contraceptives. Just something to look into.... -
Can We Talk About CPAP's and WLS?
leanne1126 replied to MitchieMay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was started on my CPAP in January of this year as part of my presurgery process. I was only on 6mm of pressure. I had my surgery May 1st of this year and I'm currently doing a 30 day titration study to see if I can go off of it already. I have probably lost 80-90 lbs since I started it in January and the weight loss has made such a difference. My family tells me I no longer snore and I don't really notice a big difference when I sleep with the mask or not. Hopefully you can eventually get away from wearing it! -

Still Draining and pain 1 week post op.
leanne1126 replied to Miracle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my drain for 19 days!! The stupid thing kept draning a significant amount and the doctor wanted to keep it in so it got everything out. My drainage was a clear/pink color as well. I guess each person is different. Good luck. The best feeling was when the stupid thing was removed and I was able to sleep comfortably again! -
When will the shedding STOP?

When will the shedding STOP?
leanne1126 replied to Amylou's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've wondered that myself. When I hit 4 months my hair just came out like crazy when I showered. I will be 6 months on 11/1/15 and it's slowed down a bit but I'm still getting quite a bit when I shower. My hair has always been thick and I've needed it thinned when I get my haircut. Well the in past 2 months, I have not needed it thinned out. I take zinc and Biotin at night to help with hair and nails, I don't know if it necessarily helps with the hair loss but I've been taking them since I was allowed post surgery. -
