  1. I've not hit my protein requirements even once since going to purée foods. I just can't face the shakes any more. Blood test this week and meeting with surgeon and dietician beginning of next week. Looking forward to chewing!!
  2. I am due to start puréed foods this weekend. Almost three weeks out - and I've not see much movement on the scales this week. But I've noticed a change in my shape, so not loosing heart. With eating so little, I think that how regular you are makes quite a difference to the scales, as does where you are in your cycle.
  3. We don't have a lot of choice for meal replacement. Plenty of Protein powders, but they don't have a good nutritional profile as a stand alone meal replacement. It's only one more week before I can have real food, even if it's puréed. Just need to put on my big girl panties and push through. I'm just really over sweet drinks. Was salivating at the kids potato and gravy - but NUT says no Pasta, rice or potato for 9 months minimum. I suspect she's trying to achieve a prolonged state of ketosis to maximise weight loss in the first year. I'm down with that.
  4. Nearly two weeks post op, and in the last month I have lost 10kgs which I'm thrilled about. But I am developing a passionate hatred for the Optifast. We have other shakes in NZ, but NUT said the optifast had the best nutritional profile post surgery. I've got a whole week more on the liquid diet, and I'm dreading each shake (2 a day). Thinking about having an optifast bonfire in 7 days. Just having a wee vent.
  5. It's got a whole bunch better. Not quite up to 2 litres of fluid per day, but getting there. Had my stitches out yesterday, and had a good talk to the nurse (who nearly a PHD in bariatrics now - good for her). Interesting to find out that I should expect a bit of hormone hell, as estrogen is stored in body fat - which is now being released. That's gonna be fun for hubby!
  6. Hi Chris - we were sleeved same day. I've not had bad gas pain, thank goodness. Did have uncontrollable vomiting for about four - five hours after the op, and felt like death. I'm a big sook when it comes to nausea, so All else in comparison is easier. Been paracetamol free for 3 days now. Only managing about half the fluids the NUT said I should be having, but doing ok. How are you finding getting all the liquids down?
  7. I had my surgery on Monday the 20th. I'm 5 days post op. Was so ill afterwards I had major buyers remorse. Feeling better now, but quite alone on the journey as I've told only two friends, and of course my husband. Be nice to have some sleeve buddies.

    Hair loss

I'm worried about hair loss too. Getting in the daily requirement of protein is supposed to help. I've not heard of biotin. Does it have another name? I'm in New Zealand, and we don't get the same variety you do in the States.

    Having trouble eating Solid foods

My surgeon and NUT said no bread, rice, pasta, caffeine, for 9 months. No tomato skins ever. I'm to avoid starchy foods if I can. Protein first, veg second and there shouldn't be room for carbs.

    I thought so too!

    First BM after surgery?

I vomited up a lot of blue dye in recovery, and wee was a lovely shade of green. The black poo is just more of the blue dye I expect. Benefibre in the shakes, and alpine tea are safe and gentle ways to get things going.

    VSG surgery in 4 days

Nope, got out the following afternoon. I'm getting through about a litre of fluids at day now. One packet of half strength optifast included in that. Supposed to be having two packets, and 2 litres tho. It's just so much.

    My story is new gossip:(

I've not told anyone. I'd feel so betrayed and humiliated in your position. It's your news to share, not her juicy piece of gossip. I just love the response that DebbieDuck4 suggested. I'm going to use that if I ever need to. I've been through 9 miscarriages, and multiple IVFs, both of which have attracted unwanted advice and insensitive comments. It's so valuable to be prepared with a store of come backs to unwanted advice and snide or judgey comments. I think now the news is out it's better you control the narrative, and not your SIL. Is there a thread on here of the best comebacks? Get yourself prepared by having some backs, and deciding how much you're willing to discuss your personal business with others. I'm sure if you were getting hemeroids treated people wouldn't feel so entitled to comment!

    VSG surgery in 4 days

I had mine four days ago. I vomited pretty badly because that's what I do after GAs and I didn't get any loading anti emetics. So that caused some pulled muscles and discomfort. But once that passed the only real pain was in the port site the camera was in. Sipping the water is important, and it gets easier. Better to be upright, sometimes standing works. I burped a bit, and it's uncomfortable until it comes out. Again being upright helps, and just wait. Don't chase it with more water until discomfort passes. Thumping on the back is not ideal. Walking the ward as soon as you can is good. Gets trapped air moving. I'm finding taking the buccastem (gastro soothe) hard going. It's so bitter. I take it with a teaspoon of kiwi crush. Three times a day I'm dreading the next dose. But dire warnings to take it for the whole first week to mitigate ulcer risk. The pill to help stomach acid is no where near as bitter. Unpleasant, but it doesn't linger. I also didn't realise I'd have to wear the compression socks for an entire week. Feels amazing getting them off when I shower ha ha That's all I can really think of.
