I'm not anywhere near the pre-op phrase but I have been reading and preparing myself for this. It is pretty common to go through the "grumpy all day" period. From what I've read it only last a couple of days and when your body adjusts it does get better. It's good to recognize that you're being like this. I'm sure my "grumpy all day" will be horrible because I get Hangry now lol

We have to do our homework. My surgeon told me to call my insurance several times and ask about my benefits. But if your surgeon has preformed this surgery and has dealt with insurance companies, they have come across common criteria that the insurances require. They should've been at least somewhat informed and guided you in that direction. The program that I am in requires 7 monthly meetings, a psychologist eval, 2 nut visits, food logs, tests And monthly weigh ins. This is if your insurance requires it or not.

Be Honest...keeping BMI and weight the same for surgery
cindyw41 replied to Lexigurl82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
do? [/quote The most weight I've lost before is 13 pounds, just to gain it back and then some. I've tried WW plus I am at times an emotional eater. My PCP suggested WLS and I do feel I need it. I'm 5'7 and between 303-307 pounds. I'm ready for a change and I feel that WLS will be a tool to help me gain more control of my life. My husband says he is behind me having WLS but he feels its an easy way out. He said I should do my best to lose weight and that I shouldn't keep my weight at what it currently is just so I can have surgery. I'm going to go thru with the surgery if my insurance approves me but I wanted to know if I was making the right decisions. My husband is the same. He wants me to lose as much weight as I can before surgery. He'd rather me not have the surgery but is being supportive. Here's the thing. The time before surgery (whether it be 3 months, 6 months or however long your insurance requires) you are learning how to eat after your surgery. If you aren't putting into practice what you're learning now, it will be that much harder after the surgery. I know 6 months is a long time (seems like forever) but I am making better choices and learning good habits. (I've lost 5 lbs so far) ???? -
I know this is a crazy question...
cindyw41 replied to mickie41's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery will be done by a robot..don't think she'll care one way or another ???? but honestly, you'll probably be asked just to have your gown on to make sure the environment is sterile. -
Be Honest...keeping BMI and weight the same for surgery
cindyw41 replied to Lexigurl82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Check with your insurance and put your mind at ease. Most use the first initial BMI as their determining factor. I asked mine about this as I was 39.5 at my first appointment. -
I think my PPI is making me hungry!

cindyw41 replied to neequa25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Nut put me on a 1300 cal diet...geez that is hard. I'm 5'2 sw 215 cw 210 She told me that my goal is to lose 21lbs by surgery but said that is a goal not a requirement. -
From what I have read the extended release medicines pass through the intestines before all of the medicine has been absorbed. There may be other options for you though

Anyone know of Gastric balloon weight loss procedure?
cindyw41 replied to hawkeyJeff's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The average weight loss after six months is somewhere around 14 lbs. Although the procedure isn't has severe has the gastric bypass or sleeve the results are dramatically different. -
What is your goal weight?

Mine is 130. 85lbs to go. Hoping to have the sleeve in January. -
I have no co-morbidities, not even borderline, which even my primary is shocked by. My best friend is just like you, healthy in every sense except the extra weight. Why do insurances have to be such a pain? We are just asking for help

Hi! My name is Cindy. I'm a Maryland girl I'm 42, Wife of Dan (21 years) mom to Alex (she's 19) and Wyatt (he's 17). I have been over weight for 23 years and I finally feel like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am 5'2" (on a good day) and 215 lbs. I feel that my surgery is a shameful topic that no one wants to talk about. As if wanting to get healthy with help is a bad thing. I have a slew of medical issues that makes it hard to lose weight. Not just an excuse I use..I've tried many times. I can't use diet pills because of high blood pressure, so when I came to the conclusion that this is the route I wanted to take I have been met with resistance. My husband sees as the easy way out...far from the easy way out. He has come around but I wish he wasn't so closed minded ????. My daughter went with me to the seminar and she understands what I am going to go through. I'm beginning month 3 of the 6. Looking at January for the surgery.

Thank you. It's tough sometimes but I'm glad I can come here and talk. I'm excited to meet the new me..I can't do anything else but get there

. Sounds like we are about the same.

Do you have any of the conditions that are considered co-morbid? Like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol, pre diabetes, or copd? Those conditions may override the borderline BMI requirement. My BMI is 39.5 but I have all of the above conditions so my surgeon sees no issue getting me approved.

I personally know a lady who had the surgery 2 years ago and still drinks.

My Nut set a goal of 21lbs but she stressed that it was only a goal not a requirement.

How far are you into the process?
