    Scared

One thing that I've learned through this process is that the people who are against WLS are not informed and base their disapproval on what they've heard and not the facts. Listen to your Self. You have the support of the only one that matters on the grand scheme of things. Let him be your rock. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Eating out on stage 3

Stage three..soft foods? When I was in Vegas I was a little further along than you. Some places I opted for a shrimp cocktail, soup or other "healthier" meals. I would also check to see if the restaurant has a plate share option. Some charge a fee for sharing but my husband and I do this. Lots of places have their menus online. Pre choose a couple ideas before you go. If you do choose a buffet you will have more choices. Stick to your plan but your portions will be considerably smaller than those of a regular diner, check to see if they allow a child's portion or plate share. You may just end up paying full price and eating very little. Pre-op I took my food with me everywhere. Post op I choose from the menu. I agree that restaurants in Vegas may not be too happy having you bring in your food. Have fun and enjoy Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Purée

I had 7 months of nutrition classes prior to surgery. Each month we added information to a large binder that I can refer back to if I have a question. My surgeon definitely makes sure his patients are prepared. I'd suggest making a list of questions. That way when you see your Nut you're not overwhelmed and forget stuff. Purée

Definitely during the beginning stages. You want it to go down as smooth as possible. I still add something if what I'm eating is really dry. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Purée

Like Applesauce or baby food, you may need to add extra sauce or something to it so it's not so dry. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Purée

I puréed everything. I got a mini chopper from Walmart. It was like $15-20 and a lifesaver. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Oh gosh what have I done.

This will get better. Please take your pain meds. I took mine for about a week post op. I also had a hernia repair.. I don't have anything to compare it to but I don't believe that in itself will cause additional discomfort. My post op instructions/symptom list was not any different from those who just had the sleeve. Your stomach is swollen, your throat is raw from the breathing tube. Getting fluids in is really hard at this stage. I was to gradually increase the amount that i drank. 1 oz every 30 mins increasing as time went on. They gave me medicine cups at the hospital for this reason. Take baby steps and remember you just has major surgery. You're not going to feel "normal" for a while. For me it was 3 weeks. Pre-op diet

Once I was past the first 3 days, I wasn't hungry anymore. Ketosis kicked in and took over. After that it was a breeze. You'll do great! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    NyQuil

It's a Tylenol based medicine, I would say you're good to go. The only meds we're to stay away from is NSAIDs Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Purée

Besides the ricotta bake, I loved puréed meat loaf and mashed potatoes (some plans do not allow potatoes, be sure to check if you are) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-op diet

I had to drink 4 shakes a day but I could also have 1 serving each of Yogurt, unflavored applesauce, sf pudding, sf Jello, 1/2 cup cooked veggies & 1/2 cup oatmeal I spaced my meals out every 2 hrs. It seemed that I was constantly eating. So it took the urge to snack away. I did not cheat..I was afraid of having surgery delayed/canceled if I didn't lose enough. I was extremely tired the first couple of days but felt better on day 3. Don't be afraid to be around people who are eating. I Carried my lunch box (it looks like a purse) everywhere filled with things that I could eat. Not one eatery/movie theater said anything to me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Harder than I thought

I'm so sorry for your losses.. I can't imagine how hard this is for you two. Protein bars are another choice for sure but just be careful of the calorie content. 1 gram of protein shouldn't be more than 10 calories. So a 20gm Protein Bar should be 200 calories or less. A lot of the protein bars are just as bad a candy bars. I'm 7 months out and for me food is still blah.. I wish I could find at least one dish that wows me..but for now it's like "well that was disappointing". This surgery definitely has turned me into a picky eater. I'm hoping this gets better for both of us. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Are you on the App or website? It has to be done on the website.. At the top of the page the is a wheel icon. Click on that then "my tickers". Click on create new ticker then Choose which one you would like, it will take you through the steps. At the end you will be given the option to "add to signature". This is how it shows on the bottom of your posts. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    5 days post op

Are you allowed pudding, Jello, or yogurt? Thankfully they were included in my full liquid meal plan. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  18. I tried the BA and Celebrate chewables (my dr gave out samples and they were nasty) my Nut gave me some of the capsules and they're pretty large. I use the Centrum vitamints and mini high potency Iron tablets from Walgreens. They're both a lot easier to get down. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    HERNIA REPAIR REPAIR

I just had surgery in January with the hernia repair. My surgeon said that my Gerd can return and that may eventually lead to a conversion to Gastric Bypass. He never suggested or implied repairing the Hiatal again. Are you having severe acid again? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Protein shakes & fluids

Too much Fluid at one time can cause discomfort as well. If you're just drinking a small amount to kind of wash down your shake I don't see the issue. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Negative vibes go away

Did you check out the site I linked for you? It really does have a lot of great information on it. It covers from pre-op on. You can PM me if you have any questions. http://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-big-gastric-sleeve-diet-guide/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Sore joints

I have been having shoulder pain for a couple of months. I guess it started about 5 months post op. With no clear reason why. Somedays I can't move my arm above my head other days it barely hurts. Not sure if it's WLS related but it's aggravating. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Maybe go back to shakes till you see your Dr., just to make sure you're reaching your Protein target. I would also keep a food log, note how you feel after eating it. (If you vomited, food got stuck or anything else). Take this with you to the Drs. Maybe you can see a pattern or discover a food intolerance. I love cheese and eat it regularly. Just be careful of the fat content and the sodium in the lunch meat. I hope it's resolved for you.
  24. Are you cutting your food into really small pieces and chewing well? The only time things get stuck for me is when the piece of food is too big. Are you able to drink shakes without any issues?

    Would you do it again?

I'm 7 months out and would do it again in a heart beat. I've never vomited or even dry heaved. I felt "normal" after 3 weeks. I was on 5 bp meds now I'm on one. I'm one of the lucky ones who has hereditary hpb. I've lost 70lbs..68% of my excess weight and almost to goal.
