I'm a few months away from surgery and was able to get rid of clothes I will never wear again..it was amazing.. I can't wait to wear things that don't look like curtains or table cloths.

I know they're good..my fridge is stocked but are they really a good source of Protein? The container claims 30g but is it really? I mean the first ingredient is Water. With 30 grams wouldn't you think the first ingredient would be whey protein isolate? I can't find any recent unbiased product information

My dr sells Unjury in the office but I'm an hour away from him. My next appointment isn't until Oct 10th. The Premiere is nice because I can get it local but it isn't on their list of recommended alternatives. Not sure if it's because it's not something they sell or what. I'm glad to hear some feedback. I do drink them quite often though. Maybe I should pick up some Unjury the next time I'm in the office.

I understand that however protein products have a PDCAA score and I can't find one for them. Some products list a certain amount of protein but it's not the actual amount that the body absorbs.

New to this all...what can I expect?
cindyw41 replied to thinnerfritter's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The first appointment to pre approval time frame depends on your insurance and the "hoops" they want you to jump through. My time frame is 7 months. First month was the seminar, Followed by 6 months of a supervised diet, monthly nutrition classes, visits with a nutritionist, psych eval, tests, exercise physiologist appointments, food logs prior to them submitting for pre approval. It's a lot but I'm learning so much. For your letter..(mine would be long too) focus on your health and how losing the weight would change your daily life. How you are committed to change your lifestyle and things you have already changed in the process. Good luck -
I added you too

What are the best protein powders and vitamins?
cindyw41 replied to ms8's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unjury also has the vitamins you will need. We just learned about good protein products and you absorb 100% of the protein from their products. -
Pre op diet HUNGRY
cindyw41 replied to Shainadelphia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It should be a lot easier after surgery. It won't take as much for us to feel full and the hunger hormones won't be there to trick your mind. -
Medications and weight gain.
cindyw41 replied to tssiemer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon will not discontinue any meds. That will be up to the dr that prescribed them. As you lose weight some of your conditions will improve and you may come off that med all together. I know some meds you have to be weaned off of, so definitely talk to the prescribing dr before you stop any. -
I've had PCOS since puberty too. Way before they knew a lot about it. I have 2 children with the help of Clomid. There is hope.

I don't think it will help with the hair...aside from the weight that's the one symptom that bothers me. I've done a lot of reading on it. So while most of the others are almost eliminated that one stays ;(

How soon after your last pre op requirement was complete did your surgeons office file for insurance approval
cindyw41 replied to volsfan82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi will, they say to give it 10 working days but it could be sooner. -
Call the pre authorization rep with your insurance company and ask. While some require you to have a BMI of 40 on surgery day others require a certain amount of weight loss on your monitored weight loss program. They're all different. Ps: call multiple times and ask the same questions to different reps. My doctor told me to do this. While the first rep was vague in her response the second one gave great detail on hers.

Will it really work for me?
cindyw41 replied to micnic1027's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it will most definitely work for you. All the things you are doing are recommended in my 6mos pre-op diet plan and the good habits we start prior to surgery will be in place after. You ARE ahead of the game. ???? -
Preop diet and severe headache
cindyw41 replied to Anniel2015's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Every surgeon is different. Ask yours what their "you can no longer have" list is and it may not be permanent but a "you can't have until" thing My surgery will be in Dec/Jan and I started weaning myself off the high calorie Lattes a couple months ago down to 2 cups of regular coffee, down to 1 and now I am completely off of it! (Yay) -
Concerned about excess skin
cindyw41 replied to tssiemer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the topic at hand... It worries me too. I've been told that there isn't a fix all but to make sure we are increasing the water intake and adding gelatin in our diet. It's said to help with the elasticity in the skin. I'm going to try it, it won't hurt anything -

Visit bariatric pal through your safari browser, sign in as usual and choose "full version" at the bottom of the page. Up at the top select the settings wheel and go to your profile and edit your info. ???? -
Hair Loss - Gastric Sleeve?
cindyw41 replied to Kym Preslar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just asked my Hairdresser about this today. There is a shampoo called Nioxin they can get for you if you notice it's getting too thin. -
Any 6 month nutrition people still hanging in their?
cindyw41 replied to sleever314's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my 6 months in June, I've lost 10 lbs. My EDG is scheduled for sept 11th. My last nut class is Dec 1st. After that, I'll be crossing fingers, toes and whatever else till the insurance says yes -
Doesn't it get annoying?
cindyw41 replied to missy5099's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a doctor that refused to help me lose weight. I asked her to send me to a nutritionist and she refused. (Just follow a low fat diet was her answer) I told her I wanted weight loss surgery and she said "you don't weigh enough". I found a new doctor. I spoke to my nut about this and she said a lot of PcPs are not educated about bariatric surgery and how it works. If my doctor was educated she would know that my comorbilities Trumped my weight. -
Change of insurance?
cindyw41 replied to bncbabe2015's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was wondering about this too. Although the 6 month pre-op diet should be accepted by any insurance as long as you have it documented. My concern would be if there was a waiting period for elective surgery. -
What are reasons for denial
cindyw41 replied to tssiemer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with Shelly, ask your doctor if they are familiar with your insurance companies requirements. They should know. But also do your homework, call your insurance company. If you have a pre Authorization number on your card, call that one. They tend to know more about your specific plan than the customer service rep. -
Doesn't it get annoying?
cindyw41 replied to missy5099's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I keep getting everyone who has failed with bariatric surgery thrown at me. My reply....well they are a prime example of someone that thought surgery was a fix all and didn't do their part. That's not me*. -
I often wonder about the mouth guard. I can't get use to the cpap. I used it in the past and went about 8 years not using it and now trying it again since my surgeon requires the use at the hospital. I wear it about 4 hrs a night and then rip it off lol
