Gummy Vitamins?
StefanieSparklePants replied to swizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Ok, first of all I recommended Fiber Choice FIBER gummies. i never said take gummy vitamins; those wont do the trick. My bariatric team said FIBER gummies were ok, given that they are low to no sugar, which they are. Fiber Choice fiber gummies are all fiber soluable from fruit pectin which means they "melt" as you chew them. Can you chew? Then they wont get "stuck." Also, if I dont take them, I dont poop. So, noone's gonna tell me my body doesnt absorb them. Lol. But no, I'd never recommend gummy vitamins. Just saying, when you're further out, it may help. -
Constipation Help?
StefanieSparklePants replied to BonnieJo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Prunes worked for me and FiberChoice gummies. The gummies arent loaded with sugar either. I get them at walmart. Benefiber works too. I use probiotics too, but that alone probably wont make you poop. Fiber is the magic ingredient. Lol -
I ate sugar today for the first time--and I didn't dump. Not happy!
StefanieSparklePants replied to bugsy72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Cookies are crunchy and go down well for me (unfortunately), so I avoid temptation. It's the sugar alcohols in the sugar free stuff that make me dump and irritate my pouch. Had 3 bites of homemade cheesecake. Dumped almost instantaneously. So fat content has a lot to do with it too. But yeah, no problem with sugar cookies either. I wish they made me sick too. -
Food Please

I had mashed potatoes while I was still in the hospital. So, basically the day after surgery. Potatoes should be ok. -
6 Months out and still have broken mojo
StefanieSparklePants posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok. Pretty personal question here. And for anyone easily offended, maybe you should keep scrolling.... So, I'm 6, almost 7 month out and I have absolutely ZERO sex drive. Nothing. Now I know we usually hear the opposite story; everyone's skinny and getting laid with a sense of newly found confidence. Not me. I don't even think about sex anymore and I'm concerned enough to seek help on the forums. Has anyone else experienced this? And did your libido come back? I know we're dealing with crazy hormonal things as we lose weight and our calories have been so drastically reduced, that this could explain some of it. I hope exercising will help as I've been pretty much not exercising. Any advice? -
I just had my labs drawn for the first time since my surgery. Everything was in normal range, except my B-12 was too high. It was 1261pg/mL. And the highest standard limit is 1000 pg/mL. I'm kinda freaking out since my level is too high. Has anyone else had high b-12 levels? I'm 6 months out. Of course I got my levels back on a Friday, so I cant discuss this with my Dr. Until Monday. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

My bariatric clinic doesn't do the B12 shots anymore, because they found people didnt need then. Interesting. *them -

I guess I'd rather have a higher b12 level than a low one. Haha. -
6Month Lab Results
StefanieSparklePants replied to StefanieSparklePants's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was worried about my liver with the high B12. But honestly, at 230 pounds (my surgery weight), my liver was unhealthy anyways; I had/have fatty liver. Rapid weight loss also causes fatty liver, oddly enough. I lost 82 pounds in 6 months. I have to keep reminding myself my body is in a state of flux and will even out in due time. So, when blood work comes back out of the norm, I worry. And adjustment seems warranted, although, seeing as the B12 thing isn't uncommon, I'm no longer super worried. -

I'm going in for my 6 month blood work this week. I Was wondering what they'll look at? Vitamin levels? Do they check liver and kidney function levels?

Gummy Vitamins?
StefanieSparklePants replied to swizzle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A lot of those hair, skin, nails gummies are sugar bombs. Watch out for that. I have yet to find a hair, skin, nails gummy that isn't a sugar bomb. Also, we don't absorb gummies as well. Any reason why you want a gummy vs a capsule or chewable? If you're newly post-op, i'd recommend a tablet or capsule form and then just crush it if you cant swallow whole pills yet. -
One yr post op average pouch size?
StefanieSparklePants replied to Laurac727's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stretching is a bit of a rare occurrence. At the one year mark, you're suppose to eat 1 cup of food. My NUT said 1 cup at 1 year, but no more than that. Im 7 months out and can eat 1/2-2/3 c, depending on the density and texture of the food. Your pouch is probably fine. Just dont drink with meals. -
worried about getting this mini bypass
StefanieSparklePants replied to bikerchick519's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
My advice: go for the full bypass. I dont regret a minute of it. Vitamin deficiencies can happen with ALL WLS. And risks are about the same. The sleeve will make problems like acid reflux so much worse, but not sure about the mini bypass. All I know is I once had awful acid reflux with regurgitation-- i got the gastric bypass, and now im completely cured. This is just my story and experience, and of course you need to do what's best for you and your health, but I'm just here to say the full gastric bypass saved my life and is not as terrible malabsorption-wise as people would have you believe. Of course, it's up to you to eat right, get lots of protein and take your vitamins-- but this is easy to do once a routine is established. -
dental problems post-op?
StefanieSparklePants replied to pinkcharmd1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gross. Why would anyone go months without brushing. Hygiene is important, people- and necessary for good health. -
Hi Everyone, I know this is a "pre-op" question, but figured I get more responses from the vets! I am on day 9 of a 2 week pre-op liquid diet to shrink my liver before surgery. I have only lost 5 pounds! I'm watching my sodium intake and drinking plenty of Water. And following the diet perfectly. My PCP (?) said most people lose between 10-15 lbs, but I am nowhere near that! Has anyone else experienced this? I don't really know what to think and My surgery is on July 20th.

Pre-op Liquid Diet
StefanieSparklePants replied to StefanieSparklePants's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 18-20 pounds. Half of that was during the 2 week liquid diet before surgery. I've lost 104 pounds and im 6 months out. There's just no way the dieting alone could have gotten me these results in the time span of which I needed these results for my health. My health couldn't wait. i had diabetes, high blood pressure, ect.). I guess the 6 month diet period is a soul-searching time. I've heard of people losing 30-40 pounds during the diet and that was good enough for them to back away from the surgeon's table. For myself? I was already, figuratively, on the surgeon's table the day I found out I was diabetic. -
3 months post-op. Just ate two slices of pizza.
StefanieSparklePants replied to gbveteran4d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Then you have unrealistic expectations. A lot of people can tolerate eating garbage after surgery-- your two slices of pizza isnt anything special. Toasty hit it right on the head. -
My August RNY went well for the most part...
StefanieSparklePants posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made it through surgery and haven't been on here since pre-op. Rny was july 20th-- down 33 pounds... While I have had no serious complications, i did get a small wound infection 6 weeks out. And I'm still nauseous on a fairly regular basis. But for the most part, I am doing well. -

Pre-Op Liquid Diet
StefanieSparklePants replied to StefanieSparklePants's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Haha! Depends on which time of day I decide to weigh myself. So far, in the morning (my lowest weight time), i've lost around 8 pounds or 7.5. Still a slow climb.
