Yeah, it does help to talk to people who ate going through the same thing. I had pre op at the hospital today and I will have an appt with the surgeon tomorrow. I am planning on asking if I can use gas x after surgery. Any other questions?

Maybe you could start heading to the doctors office, or at least call them, so you could start creating a history?

Just for the record, I had hair loss after my son was born. My doctor said that sometimes it's a reaction to a trauma to the body. I know most surgeries are laproscopic, but i would think any surgery would be considered a trauma to the body. I think it probably just boils down to everyone being different and having different reactions. I am anticipating that I will have hair loss and trying to prepare myself mentally. After all, if a few grey hairs want to jump ship on me, I'm ok with that

@csm81- I'm so excited for you! My pre op diet isn't as bad as I thought it would be but it's not fun. I'm really thankful for my 2 meals of 3 oz of lean protein and 2 cups of nonstarchy veggies. I am also having 3 protein shakes a day. What is your diet like?

I don't know... since this forum isn't too active, is there another part we could post on to say we were trying to make the forum active and plan a meet up?

My pre op is 3 Protein shakes a day, 2 meals of 3 oz lean protein and veggies. I can also have sf Jello, sf popscicles, cucumbers and celery. I can have radishes and mushrooms, but I'd rather eat dirt so I don't I'm doing ok with it, at day 5 I'm a little cranky. I find that if I plan out my meals so I don't get hungry, I'm happier.

Not yet. The hospital I'm having surgery at has 2 different support groups but I haven't been to any of them yet. One of them is during the day so I doubt I'll make it to any of those but I am going to try to make the evening ones.

@@B-52 The reason you should stay is that you have become the person you used to follow. The student has surpassed the teacher and what not. I am being banded Aug 4. I am completely comfortable with the decisions I have made and my reasons for doing so, but i still need support. I come to the Lap Band forums but leave when all I find is people putting down the band- that's not what I need. I need to hear how you cope with whatever issue is being discussed. I need to hear your good AND your bad. So for all of you who are banded, please don't go! I'll even break into the old 80s song if it will help!

I don't have any family here either, except my son. He's 8 though so he will staying with a friend while I have the surgery. My mom is coming down for the surgery and will be here for a few days.

That's great! Are you planning on having the surgeries at the same time?

I chose my surgical center because it's nearby, uses a reputable hospital and had friends who uses it. After attending the initial presentation , I was assigned a surgeon. I had the option to switch surgeons but after meeting with him I decided to keep him. I'm being banded Aug. 4th!

Hi! My name is Crystal and I'm being banded Aug 4. I switch back and forth between being excited and nervous. How's everyone else doing?

*sigh* How do we get it going again? I KNOW there are people with WLS I n NC.

I had to have a letter of support/referral from my PCP, but it was for insurance. However, I love my doctor. We have been discussing WLS for a few years and he completely supports my decision.

I guess... I'm not in the immediate area, I'm near Greensboro. All the NC groups seem pretty dead.

I don't know of this is exactly the right board, but I'm a single mom and I figure I will find others here. I'm struggling when it comes to talking to my son about my surgery. He is 8. When I first started looking into surgery he overheard me talking to someone else about the surgery and flipped out. While I was in the deciding phase, I made sure not to talk about it around him. Now the decision is made and the surgery is next month. I have plans and back up plans for his care while I'm in surgery and recovery. I even have a plan in case there are complications. I just haven't been able to tell him about the surgery. What have you told your kids?

Thanks for the advice. We talked about it today. He was scared at first, his fear is that he was afraid I would die during surgery. I acknowledged his fears by admitting that I could die, then quickly followed it up with the fact that I could die of a heart attack tomorrow. He thought about it for a minute, then he was ok. We talked about how I would be healthier and have more energy. He was excited my mom would be coming down to take care of us and that he would be with "nana" while I was in surgery.

I go back the week of the 17th, but i have a week of workdays so I'll be sitting in meetings. I'm having surgery Aug 4th and I'm not too worried. I know I'll be tired, but i plan on going to bed early.
