I have no clue. It would depend on the insurance company and the surgeon.
-
I have BCBS and was approved quickly. My surgery was 2 weeks after I got approved. I had to have several tests done before they would officially submit to insurance.

I have been fortunate to find some great deals on fb yardsale groups. I bought 3 bags of jeans for $20.00 and got sizes from 16-24. I'm a 26 now so they are just waiting for me! My problem has become clothing storage.

The length of time it takes is different for everyone. Insurance companies have different requirements. Mine did not require any supervised diet but some require 6 months of it.

Tummy bump help?!
LessOfMe0503 replied to lucky1gg33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sit ups maybe? I'm not sure. I've read that you can't target that kind of thing but I've also read that you can. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will answer but sit ups are my first guess. -
Incision Sites Not Healing Correctly

Did you call? How is your incision? -
Does anyone stock up on smaller clothing?
LessOfMe0503 replied to losing_the_band's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I did. I have tons to work my way back down through but no jeans. I saw a post in a yard sale group this weekend from a lady selling several pairs of jeans a couple sizes down from where I am. I jumped on it and when I met her l, she had 3 bags of jeans. She said she found extra ones that she threw in. I took them home and washed them and they were a range from size 16 to 24. I'm a 26 now so it was perfect. Now my problem is how to store them! -
I think you'll be fine! Did you get added to our fb group?

As I understand it, you will continue losing as long as you work on losing weight. The 18 months and 80 percent are not set in stone values. They are just indicative of what surgeons usually see.

I think you should definitely get that one checked out! -
What would you do?
LessOfMe0503 replied to mommyfrog3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Does she eat like that all the time or was it a one time birthday meal? Either way, I would steer clear of directly addressing it. Surgery is a physical fix, not a mental one- I'm only 5 days out but the mental battles have been big. Perhaps instead of addressing her shortcomings, enlist her help in your journey. Bring up things you are worried about and ask what her surgeon/NUT said. -
With daycare, I wouldn't hurry back. I go back to work on the 17th and the main reason my doc is ok with that is that my first week is full of meetings. By the time kids come on the 25th I will be almost 3 weeks banded. Something to think about- I'm not supposed to life over 10 pounds.

Pre op diet ultimate failure to come......HELP
LessOfMe0503 replied to mizzlane13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm a single mom so when I went through the pre op phase, I stocked my kitchen with foods my son could prepare himself- sandwiches, Cereal, lunchables, popcorn, etc. He survived and I wasn't tempted. Post op, my mom came down while I recovered. She fed him and fixed some things for the freezer til I am up and eating. -
I personally didnt/havent... but when people go to Mexico for surgery, do t they usually fly?

Is / was your nutritionist all that helpful?
LessOfMe0503 replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
My NUT is pretty decent. In my one on one, she asked what my normal meals are, what worries I had about nutrition after surgery, and gave me suggestions. During the pre op class, she was rather scripted. One lady had tons of questions about could she change this and that and she kept saying, this is the suggested plan... but the 2 of them spent some time in the corner after class so maybe they were working through it. I wonder if some programs have decisions made for them by someone e higher up. For example, I'm a teacher and many decisions that are made about education have nothing to do with children, child development or educational research- but rather someone way up the line made a decision and I have to work within those boundaries. I know it can't just be in education that that happens, so maybe it is happened to nutritionists as well? -
No... I think this is having surgery. You have had your body sliced into and a foreign object put in. You should feel bad. The worst for me was the gas, and nothing helped but walking. The day after surgery I took little walks from my recliner to the kitchen and back- 20 steps total. Each day I walked a little more and a little more often. Eventually, the gas will pass.

Today is only the 8th... you had surgery yesterday... of course you feel like crap. I had surgery on the 4th, today I felt human. The day after surgery was the worst day for me. I was only tolerating ice chips and dry heaving 30 minutes after that. Each day after got a little better. I also had no desire for anything to be in my stomach. That being said, my surgeon said if I have pain the meds don't touch to call. Have you called your surgeon?

I had surgery Tuesday. I will go back to work the 17th. I think a lot depends on your job. What do you do?

What was the final straw to decide this?
LessOfMe0503 replied to limichelle34's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The final straw was discovering that my risk of having a heart attack was higher than my risk of dieing during surgery. Fear of the actual surgery itself kept me on the fence for a really long time. -
Feeling alone through this journey

Died your surgeon or hospital have support group meetings? Maybe you could find face to face support there. And of course, you'll always find it here! -
Outside of being healthy, what are you looking forward to most...
LessOfMe0503 replied to HopeandAgony's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not worrying about breaking things when I sit on them... shopping... seeing collar bones! Amusement parks, hiking, owning more than one pair of jeans, cute shoes, jewelry that fits! -
Did anyone tell children ?
LessOfMe0503 replied to kayjaywlj's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my 8 year old. I was very matter of fact about it. He was scared and said he didn't want me to have the surgery because he was afraid I would die. I acknowledged that fear and told him that surgery could be scary. I followed it up with the fact that I could die tomorrow with or without the surgery and that I wasn't scared. I talked to him about how I trusted my doctors and I wasn't scared. We talked a lot about what would happen during the surgery in terms of how it would impact him and that calmed him down. I have a dear friend who is retired and he calls nana that he stayed with the nights before and after my surgery. We also talked about how my mom (mawmaw) would come down to take care of us. Having the knowledge helped him but tailor your discussion to what your kids will need. I felt like I had to tell him because (a) I'm a single mom and have been relying on friends for support and ( it is changing our lives and he needed to know why. -
I finished all the requirements to have my surgery submitted for approval yesterday! Yay! My question is purely for my entertainment unless someone else has the exact insurance as I do. (NC BCBS) How long did you have to wait for approval once it went to insurance?
