  1. I'm 25 and complete my 3 month diet in two weeks. I should have my date shortly after. Good luck!
  2. Yes, ghrelin is the hunger hormone that is removed during sleeve surgery and makes you no longer have feelings of hunger. My doctor has not told me that it will come back in a few years and that's the first time I'm hearing that. It seems like once it's removed, it's removed for good. However, I think that's a conversation to have with your doctor as answers on here should not determine which surgery is right for you. No one on here can better answer a question than your doctor.
  3. I have never had a natural period. Ever. At 15 I started on birth control pills to regulate a period. I am 25 now. Throughout the years, I have stopped taking the pills for a few months (doctor's orders) to see if my period would come on its own. It never did and never has. I'm really hoping and do believe that this surgery will help me start a natural period, because I fear not being able to get pregnant naturally. My doctor highly suggested the sleeve for me rather than the bypass.
  4. As you're talking about your boobs, I'm thinking "hey they sound like mine!" Hahah! Great, I never thought about this issue before. Now you gave me something else to worry about now! LOL.
  5. I also had to show that my BMI was over 35 in 2013 and 2014.

I'm BCBS Federal as well. Did you have to have months of documentation of rashes or anything?

    Hello twenties !

Wow. 40 lbs in one month?! AMAZING! We are the same age too. I'm 2 months away from surgery and we are around the same starting weight (I'm currently 10 lbs heavier than you). How was your first month on liquids? Difficult? Any tips?
  8. Per the other user on page one.. check out this link on Dr. Almanza. You really should reconsider. Also, BariatricPal pulled him as a recommended doctor and is no longer affiliated with him. Really not a smart move. http://www.10news.com/news/team-10-investigates-agency-responsible-for-booking-bariatric-surgery-that-is-injuring-patients
  9. Hi sunshine72, nice to meet you, I'm Dr A. I don't have you booked and I think we haven't skype or Facetime either. Would you like to have a free consult with me? She's seeing Dr Almanza ... Yikes
  10. Some people were getting approve very quickly... but as of lately I'm seeing that it's taking double the time as it was before!
  11. I think most of us only tell people who we think are going to be supportive, and like me, are surprised to learn that they actually aren't. My brother for example, struggled with his weight all his life, yet still does not support my decision. Yes, I was shocked. I would never tell anyone who is knowingly unsupportive, and I'm sure no one else would either. Please don't assume.

    Anyone from the AZ?

How did everything go? I will be getting the sleeve with Dr. Swain in October.
  13. I will be sleeved in early October in Scottsdale, AZ!
  14. I've only told my mom, dad, and brother. Those are the only three that are ever going to know (for now). My mom and dad are totally supportive and behind me 100%. My brother, however, is a different story. He himself has always lost and gained the same 100 lbs over the years. Right now he is at his biggest and says that I am "lazy and just taking the easy way out." Because he was able to do it and "if you exercised regularly and ate well, you could lose the weight." He just doesn't get it. His opinion doesn't sway me either way. It goes in one ear and out the other. I was shocked that he wasn't supportive of it. And a little hurt. But oh well. It's happening either way!!!
  15. Bringing back this old thread - Can anyone with BCBS federal tell me if they tried to have any plastics covered? What was the process like? Did you have to show proof for a number of months? Any info is helpful! Thanks!
  16. Although there are very many great deals and surgeons in Mexico, Almanza is not one of them. Please do your research and if you paid WeightLossAgents, there's a way to get back your money. All I can say is please really think about going with someone else: When u get a chance - check out what aired on channel 10 news in San Diego. http://www.10news.com/news/investigations/team-10-dozens-injured-during-weight-loss-surgery-in-mexico And Video God bless you. Wow! I just watched that video you've provided. Scary stuff!!! Sunshine72 - I really hope you've reconsidered your surgeon!

    BCBS Federal timing question

My surgery center told me it takes on average 3 weeks to hear back from insurance. I have BCBS Federal and you guys are making me so excited by seeing it took all of you less than a week for approval!!!!
  19. My insurance will cover it 100% as long as I: 1. Have a letter of necessity from my PCP 2. Have a 2 year weight history from my PCP 3. Have a 3 month doctor supervised weight loss diet within the last 12 months I have everything except the doctor supervised weight loss. I have been to the PCP and began this diet and am currently 3 weeks in. Only 2 months and 1 week to go. Otherwise I have all other info the insurance will need. I've already had my pre-op appointment and underweight the psychological testing. Once my diet is over, the hospital will send to insurance which usually takes 3 weeks. In the meantime I will go thru blood work, classes, and another appointment with the surgeon. Once insurance gives the okay then I'm good to go. The hospital predicts I will have my surgery late September, early October.
