  1. Hello everyone! My name is Dana, I am 20 years old and I am getting the sleeve done hopefully late May/early June. Last year, I was supposed to have the sleeve surgery in August. However, suddenly my approved insurance coverage was then unapproved. It was devastating. But, I tried my best to eat healthy and begin healthier habits, anyway. Then, earlier this year my mother found out that our insurance is covering the surgery and I jumped back into it. In fact, she's getting the Bypass done next month! Anyway, I have yet to schedule my surgery date, but everything I need is done, now just waiting for my appointment next week Tuesday to set a date! Eeek! Right now, I think I'm: - 255 lbs - 5'6" tall - BMI: (guesstimate) 42.2 I researched everything possible about this process the first time around, and I've got to say I'm more sure than I've ever been about anything. I'm not nervous at all, but I'm anxious to embark on a new life. One of the big reasons I need this surgery is because I have a bulging disc that gives me great pain. Unfortunately, back surgery isn't an option for me, but my doctors have told me that the only thing I can do now is lose weight. The problem is I'm in too much pain to be able to really workout, thus no weight loss. This surgery is the leap that will help me not only become healthy and able, but change my pain forever. I'll try to keep anyone interested up to date. I'm super excited and can't wait to be one of the beautiful people who post their success and before/after pics. God bless ️ -Dana

    Healthy Me

Hi everyone! So I wanted to start the party with a little background about myself: Name: Dana Age: 19 Favorite Color: Purple (at the moment) Favorite Food: Mac N' Cheese Favorite Music: Tie between pop and alt. rock So I decided to go a different route with my intro because I feel we identify by our weight. Yes, it's a little silly to identify by your favorites, but I figured it was different than the norm. I'm just beginning my WLS journey and I'm excited for it, but I have to remember to love myself as I am now, so that I can truly appreciate how I am after it all. But anyway, here is some info about my journey, so far: WLS Type: VSG (aka. Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy) Height: 5'6" Weight: 264.4 ~ lbs. First Appt. w/ Surgeon: June 15th, 2015 Surgery Date: TBD Level of Research Completed: 3000%... (My goal is 5000%) So this is everything about me and my journey, so far. I just wanted to share this as a first step for myself and as an encouragement for others to join in. Please feel free to report on your journey, give advice, ask questions, and commune with all of us who are feeling the same way you are! God Bless, Dana
  4. OH MY GOSH. So as some of you may know I went to see my surgeon today to schedule my surgery date. My nurse and the scheduler both said that I'm looking at a late August / early September date. THEN, when my mother and I sat down with the scheduler (her name is Sue), she told me that my surgeon does the surgery on Monday's and he's booked until late September. I was devastated. BUT THEN... She said that he is taking an "on-call" weekend (Thursday-Sat/Sun) and asked if THURSDAY, AUGUST THE 20TH WAS OKAY!! Is this lady trying to play with my emotions?!? OF COURSE I said yes! Haha. I am so beyond excited and this all feels so surreal. My journey has been short so far, but I am fully prepared for this life-changing operation. Just wanted to keep you all updated.. so yeah. God Bless Everyone!! Dana

    Back pain

I have back pain from an accident, so I would like to know this as well!
  8. Hey all! So I seriously thought I was going to be scheduling my surgery on the 27th, but the office called today and told me my appt is TOMORROW! I am so excited... I really cannot believe that everything is happening so fast. Unlike many of those I've read about on here, my journey has been fairly short and fast-paced. My first appointment was JUNE 15 and I only had to complete some requirements: Psych eval and NUT consult, as well as a support group visit. Now, JULY 21st is the day I set the date that will completely change my life forever. I cannot explain how ready I am, nor how excited I am. I can't wait to feel the pain and earn the LOSS , & come out on top. The aim for the surgery date is late August / early September. Gosh, this is surreal!! Well, thanks for taking your time to read my post! God Bless, Dana John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
  9. ALRIGHT EVERYONE. On my way to schedule a surgery date. With my momma ❤️
  10. @@kozyjozie I totally understand the feelings of nervousness & excitement. I feel your pain. That's wonderful the your NUT will walk you through this. It helps keep you accountable and focused. But, if you ever mess up don't be afraid to be honest with them. It allows them to be fully helpful, even if you mess up. I'm so happy that we are getting out dates on the same day! Keep all of us posted!

    13 days post op

Well, I have not had my surgery yet, but I did read some comments about the fatigue-ness. I read that it's all about the change - and I'm sure you read that to. I guess it's all about brain power & God's hand. Remember this: We do our best & God does the rest! My prayer for you: God, please have your hand on littlebuddy213. Give them your strength and will to push past the depression and negative feelings. I pray that you continue to remind them that you are right there, with arms wide open. Thank you for this opportunity for your name to be glorified. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
  13. Just wondering about my life after surgery. I'm excited to feel the pain so I can LOSE the weight! Haha, see what I did there? :)

First day after surgery, not good. After that it's wonderful!! If you follow the rules, it will be great :) I love it!

BTW, by not good, I mean, just tired after surgery, sore and adjusting :) No serious pain

  14. Well, once you see your surgeon you most-likely will see a NUT (nutritionist) during that appt. If not, you will get a consult scheduled. Usually this is the time to ask him/her those questions & s/he will give you some guidelines. But before that, I would just alter some stuff steps at a time. Begin to cut back on caffeine, sweets, fried foods, etc. This is what I'm doing now, as well, to prepare myself. Also, Pinterest has a plethora of recipes you can start trying for WLS. But ultimately follow what your NUT says because it's personalized guidance.
  15. Thanks Monnie!! Once you go into a specific (what I call) "log of forums" there should be an option at the top that says "Start new topic" -- at least on the full website. I'm not sure about the mobile app tho.
  16. @, @@samuelsmom, & @@The Candidate Thank you all for such encouraging words! XOXO God Bless, Dana
  17. I've notified my work about surgery, but they do not know what it is exactly. I agree with you, it's your business and if you don't want to share that information, you are not obligated to do so! I would just say that whatever routine you are working towards is working. I mean, it is!

    MUST HAVES FOR SURGERY DAY

All I'm planning on taking is a loose-fitting dress (going there and back), toothbrush & toothpaste, Blistex (the blue round one is the one I like), favorite pillow and my phone and charger.

    Surgery on the young side

Hi Hannah!! So I am also on the young side (19) and if you ever wanna talk or need some support, I'm here. Just shoot me a message. I am 264/265 and am going through with the sleeve. & I have never had surgery in my life!
  21. I am on the same boat about not telling the entirety of my family. My immediate family knows about it and they are split about my decision. Honestly, the norm understanding of this surgery is that we are giving up, when in reality we are making a big lifestyle choice. This is something that's good for us. So if you need any help with support, or you feel doubt, or anxiety about any of this just shoot me a message!! God bless!
  22. Right. Making appointments are a pain because how far you would have to make them out. Yes I really hope this goes as quickly and smoothly for you! Good luck and God Bless on your journey!!
  23. I guess there's a chance that you can try and get those things done asap, but insurance is triply like that. My insurance doesn't require a lot, so my waiting is max 2mo.
  24. This is all so helpful and encouraging. My list contains practically everything you all have said. Thank you thank you all for this forum!!! God bless!

    Beginning stages

Yes it does, but I remember reading that it there's a chance that it only helps with a portion of it whereas the bypass helps the majority of not all of it. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just remember reading that. Either way both surgeries are beneficial.
