    What Are Your Hobbies?

I team rope, steer wrestle and trip steers. I have struggled with my weight on and off all my life. I would get over 300lbs then go on a diet, start exercising loose a little weight and before I knew it I would get complacent, stop exercising, start eating poorly and was back over 300. its been an yo-yo effect for the last 15+ years. As you can imagine, trying to compete at a professional level when you are overweight is extremely difficult. I made the decision to get the surgery in may of this year and had it done in July. Since then I have not regretted it for even one minute. My doctors told me not to rope for 6 weeks. I gave it one week and started roping again with no issues what so ever..... Since then I have lost 74 lbs and can tell a huge difference in my ability to perform inside and outside the arena. My balance and core strength and energy level are the most noticeable changes. I finally feel like I am able to compete at a top level again and I cant wait until I have lost an other 70 lbs to see even more change. I'm sure my horses appreciate the fact they don't have to carry an extra 70+ lbs of me around as well.

How much did you lose the first month?

I will be 1 month post op tomorrow. From the beginning of my 2 week pre-op diet to today I am down 51 lbs. I have stuck with the basics. EAS Protein shakes, Jello, Soups, Greek yogurt (yoplay 100 cal,) Those were helpful in getting the protein i needed. Good luck with your journey. Hope this helps

How long were you out of work?

I had my surgery on a Thursday and was back to work on Monday morning.
  16. Before my surgery I read some horror stories on this forum about pain, discomfort, nausea, ect. so I was a little worried about what issues I would face... Maybe I was just one of the lucky ones, but I have had no issues what so ever. I returned to work two days after surgery, and have not slowed down for even a minute. The Dr. told me not to rope, or ride horses for 6 weeks after surgery, I waited two and a half weeks just for good measure, and started roping again with no issues what so ever. I honestly do not feel as if I ever had surgery.(until I try to eat food, then I realize I can only eat a few bites and I am full) From what I understand a big part of the nausea, and pain comes from how well your Surgeon stitches your stomach back up. if there is any bruising or swelling in the stomach that is what causes nausea, pain and the ability to not be able to keep down even Water. I would recommend this surgery to anyone who may be struggling with weight issues.
  17. I was having terrible insomnia after surgery. I started taking 2 Tylenol PM, and have been sleeping like a baby ever since.
  18. no longer in the 300 club....now in the 200+ club

my insurance is a freaking nightmare. first of all, i have a $5000 co pay, then they pay 20% of the remaining costs. WOW! really? then, i have to a multi disciplinary surgical prep regimen. that includes 1. a behavior modification program 2. consultation with a nutritionist 3. documentation by a physician of my participation of this program for 3 months 4. begin a supervised exercise regimen, with an exercise therapist or qualified personnel (who would that be??) 5. decreased calorie diet supervised by a nutritionist. Just seems like a big hassle and another big expense. i really should stop complaining and look at the good side of all of this. i am just overwhelmed by how to start all of this. i need to talk to the coordinator at my surgeons office again :)

that is incredible how easy it has been for you!! and no pain or discomfort? good for you! that is very encouraging. did you have lap band? i still cant believe how quickly the weight came off!!

no, I had a Sleeve. I paid $1217.00 out of pocket. $1000 for my deductible and $217 for some other fee that ins does not pay. I had to do a diet of a protein shake for breakfast and lunch and chicken and broccoli for dinner for 2 weeks before the surgery. I had no other hoops to jump through. Honestly, I don't feel as if I even had surgery. Other than the fact I started eating "food" yesterday and am full with just a couple bites. My incisions are already almost completely healed, and have had no issues. I read horror stories about other people in this forum who are down for months. Cant hardly keep water down, ect...... From what i understand it it mostly because my surgeon did an amazing job putting things back together, no swelling bruising the stomach or anything else.

that is amazing!!!! i am glad you feel so good. that would be awful to not be able to keep anything down. and only $1217? i am so jealous!!! i will probably be out about $7500. geeeeez. crappy insurance.

    Insomnia anyone?

I got a bottle of Tylenol PM, Took 2 pills, and slept like a baby!!!
  23. My surgery was July 2, I have had no pain, minimal discomfort and feel like I have not even had surgery. I returned to work on Monday, July 6th. I am still on full liquids and last night I consumed a full can of Campbell's Tomato Soup. (Approximately 20 oz.) I did not have any discomfort or feel like I was over full. I am concerned because I read on here numerous people who at day five cannot even keep down broth. I feel like a whole can of soup is extreme when my new stomach is supposed to be only 5 oz or so.
