Alcoholic drinks after surgery
WinchSight replied to TeeNahh's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I enjoy a couple of glasses of white wine once a week now that I'm about 100 days post-op. It's really quite enjoyable. I do drink slower and try to savor the drinks. But it's nice to indulge every once in a while. There's been pressing no medical concerns as a result of occasional session of moderate drinking. Bottom line, enjoy your drinks, but do remember moderation. -

First couple weeks post-op, I couldn't eat scrambled eggs at all. I would become naseous. I was heartbroken. I thought I may have lost them forever. But I'm about 10 weeks out now, and I'm able to eat them again. I don't choose them as often as before, but every once in a while I can enjoy a full scrambled egg.

Always exercise if you can. You don't have to go hard every single day. But I do try to do something every single day. Even during the pre-op liquid diet, I always tried to get at least some light cardio work done. If you already exercise regularly, it should be a breeze. Good luck!

Don't worry about losing too much weight pre-op on account of insurance. In fact, the more weight you lose pre-op, the better your chances are of getting approved. Insurance companies like to bet on sure things. A candidate that has shown they're able to lose weight pre-op is someone they consider a good bet to have a successful surgery.

A shot is probably not a great idea. Alcohol will affect us more quickly and more decisively than ever before. I'm 5 weeks post op. I probably still won't drink for a while. But if I had to have hard liquor I'd try something I could sip. Something to savor over a little while.

Chewable multi-Vitamins make me nauseous. I think there's something in them that my body thinks is toxic, so it wants to reject them. I'm going to try to switch to a tablet or pill. The calcium citrate and the B12 don't make me feel sick, just the multis.

Nice work Shan5311! Under 200 is a good place to be. I lost my first 100 as of today. I hope I get where you are eventually.

How long out of work?
WinchSight replied to missy5099's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I consider myself very lucky. My recovery went really well. I have an office job. Two weeks was plenty for me. Some people need longer. It really depends on how each person heals and recovers from a major surgery. -
How do you post photos in this Forum?

To post pics on your profile on this forum, I've found it's way easier to do on a computer. I haven't had a lot of success doing it from a phone or tablet. There's a whole area under your profile settings when you view this site on a computer browser. -

Great work man! If you can figure out the weight, which you did in a big way, you can figure out everything else I'm sure. -
How much weight? How fast?
WinchSight replied to gpmed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The quick weight loss actually started for me during the two week liquid diet before surgery. Then after surgery, during the all-liquid phase, the weight loss was also quick. That's where I am now. Losing 7-10 pounds a week seems about right, mostlly because your calorie conumption is lower than you're used to. I was also very cranky, and very hungry during the liquid phases. Very bored with what I was eating, because there was no variety. But, the weight needs to come off, so the work and inconvenience needs to be endured. It's like a rite of passage. There's a tradeoff. But, the weight does come off. And health should improve as a result. Good luck! -
How long in hospital and off work?
WinchSight replied to quiltermom65's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Two weeks off work was plenty for me after surgery. Some people have said they've taken as many as six weeks. I live alone, and had no trouble after getting home, although it might be nice to have someone around those first couple of days. The incision pain was a little rough at first, but it does get better everyday. It was mostly gone a week later, and then I was back up and around the second week post-op. -
5 1/2 months out - BIG STALL..... help please!
WinchSight replied to CindyWinFlorida's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I try to walk every day, sometimes as little as 15 minutes, down the block or on the treadmill. But I do try to do something to keep moving everyday, for at least 30 minutes. The little bits of daily activity do pay off, and then you'll be able to do a lot more as time goes on. It was important for me to start slow, and just do a little bit at a time at first, but always do something. I would sometimes go to the gym, ride the recumbent bike for 20 minutes, get a little sweat going and then just go home. But at least I did something. A little something everyday will pay dividends in the long term. -
I went with almond milk during liquid pre-op for my shakes because I found out I had a lactose sensitivity to regular milk. For me, that lactose sensitivity was the main reason I went with almond milk. I should have considered Lactaid too, mostly because it has more Protein than than almond milk.

Hey, how long did you take off from work after surgery?
WinchSight posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm planning on being away from work for two weeks to recover from RNY. I was wondering how much time other people took off from work to recover their their surgeries. -
Congrats on your progress so far! You're doing awesome.

When will I learn to eat slower?!
WinchSight replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told to try putting the fork down after every bite. Then chew, chew, chew. And then pick the fork back up after swallowing.
