  1. Oh Man! This thread has had me laughing! I'm afraid I've said some pretty stupid things... I have yet to live the following two down... I had been sick with pnuemonia and was on my moms bed watching her play solitaire (I was facing her) I kept staring at the cards in amazement and she finally asked "What?!" and I asked her "How can you play with the cards upside down?" She still teases me about that and it was almost 2 decades ago!!! I was sick! give me a break! LOL My husband is still laughing about this one: I just got a new fancy cell phone and was asking my husband about some of the features. I mentioned that there was a wire included in the packaging and he said that it was to hook the phone to the computer. I said "Oh that is the Blutooth wire then"? I couldn't figure out why he was laughing at me. *sigh*
  2. Hey Everyone! I'm appealing to any of you who have hosted or gone to 'home shows'. I recently started with a new company and will be doing demo parties, but I am really at a loss when it comes to creative party games....etc! Any suggestions would be great! I really don't want to bore the clients! Discuss:: Have you been to a memorable/Fun home show? What made it memorable? Fun? What are some of your favorite 'home party' games to play? What do you dislike the most about home parties? edit to add:: If your children were invited to the home show as well, would you prefer separate activities for them so you get grown up time? Or would you prefer joint Mommy n Me activites?

    Broke my butt.....

Yowza!!! :puke: That there is a fine example of OUCH! (and I agree with the others... nice backside! No cellulite or anything! :clap2: LOL)
  4. Thanks for all the suggestions so far! Wavydaby:: Do you put emphasizing that they can get free stuff if they host their own party in the same catagory as pushing for their friend to get free stuff? Thanks for the trivia suggestion! Teresita:: Nice suggestion to ask the guests to bring a guest of their own! Thanks Wheetsin:: I think most parties will be with friends, however many shows I will be doing will be through preschool classes, schools, and churches where it will be strangers. I am selling Veggietales products, so mostly that is children's videos/dvds, apparel and toys. Thanks again for the suggestions and advice! I'm taking notes!:biggrin1:
  5. My liver shrinking was just VERY low carb, basically pure protein as much as possible for 2 weeks. The purpose of the LSD is to throw you into fat burning or 'ketosis'. If you want to see if your diet is working you can ask the pharmicist for some ketosis sticks. They are just little strips you dip in your urine to test for ketones. If you have them present the diet is doing it's job, weight loss or not. If you don't have them present you may want to tweak it with the help of your Dr. Good Luck on your surgery!!!:biggrin1:

Is it bad to sleep on your port?

My patient coordinator was quite pleased, as was my Dr, to hear that I slept on my side the first night back and had no problems. I guess if they were happy about it I'd say you are just fine

:clap2: Woo!!! I just got into town! It's much nicer here than my last place! LOL  yay for twos!!!
  9. My fill doctor has me do 2-3 days of the full liquid stage (i.e. anything you can suck through a straw) and then graduate myself as tolerated to mushies and solids. As for the amount of fill, it varies for every body. Some people never need a fill, others will need to be filled all the way. There is really no common ground when it comes to the amount of fill. Good Luck!

How do you handle sweet cravings?

I eat chocolate covered nuts (almonds mostly), Lo-cal (or low carb) pretzels dipped in Nutella, and I make frozen peach lemonade slushies using Crystal Light lemonade and Nectar brand 'fuzzy navel' protein powder. I make up some ice cubes with the protein drink and then blend it into the CL. yummmmmm! Oh! Atkins makes some good bars as well. There is one coconut bar that is small and tastes just like a Mounds bar. I don't feel guilty eating any of these because they all provide protein and fill my need for sweets without giving me completely empty calories.
  11. Yay! I love it! See? one less thing to worry about!:clap2: *checks kidnapping off list*
  12. I just read this article (posted below)tonight and thought it is really interesting how a perception of something generally thought to be negative can change based on circumstances. I used to work for a lady that was very large (400#ish), who got what she thought to be a boil on the back of her thigh. It got bigger over the next week and she finally was taken in to the Dr who immediately admitted her to surgery. Turned out she had contracted that flesh eating staph bacteria. The Dr's later said that her fat saved her leg and probably her life! The bacteria was not able to eat as far and invade. A smaller person after a week would have at the very least lost their leg. So I am taking a moment tonight to thank my little fat cells for the protection they may have afforded me before I started this war against them. As I lose each one I will kiss it goodbye and think fondly of the protection they were trying to give me! And I ask you to check your perception tonight and see, Is your glass of fat half full or half empty? Ever been saved by your fat? article:: Bulky man barely injured as car rolls over him Mon Jun 12, 12:23 PM ET A 440 pound German man discovered that being overweight can be good for your health -- if you get run over by a car. German police said the extra body mass prevented the 30-year-old man from suffering potentially fatal injuries when a Volkswagen Polo drove over him after he braked suddenly on his bicycle at a crossroads and fell off in front of the car. "It certainly helped him in this case," said Sven-Marco Claus, a spokesman for police in the western town of Gifhorn on Monday. "Someone smaller would probably not have been so lucky." The man dislocated his hip, which local doctors put back in place, but otherwise suffered only scratches and a bloody nose from the underside of the vehicle, police said.
  13. I had a woman approach me at a Sear's once. I was there with my husband trying on shoes and she states "Jesus loves you!" I replied 'Thank You' and went on trying the shoes but she didn't go away. When I finally glanced back at her she says "You know, he (gesturing towards my husband) is not happy with you. Why don't you come out to (her town) and walk with me and Jesus and I will help you to lose this weight!?" I couldn't even speak. I was so floored by the idea that a complete nutjob was telling me how my husband of 11 years feels about me. I still couldn't even fathom where to begin to speak to this woman and thankfully my wonderful amazing man spoke up and said "She is beautiful and I am very happy with her" and he led me away from the psycho. Luckily she has been pretty much the only asshat I've run into. My starting BMI was 54.7 (360# @ 5'8") I've almost lost the 60... my scale is teasing me at 300.5. DAMN THAT .5!!!!:phanvan :biggrin1: So now I'm at 45.7! Not too bad. I've consistently lost about 5-6 lbs a month or 1.5-2lbs a week. Slow but steady!:clap2:

:cry Dr Kuri just announced the TJ BASH will be that weekend... Think we can stretch out a line of bandsters from the MX border to Vegas?!
  16. It does go away! I'm to the point I don't even think about the food anymore. Quite a big thing saying as how I was literally obsessed with it before surgery. The snacks I have found best are nuts and jerky... AKA PROTEIN!!! It really helps me feel full and is one of the best things for making sure we're keeping our good muscle and losing the nasty fat! I get the flavored almonds and the shredded beef jerky works best. Some people have some trouble with jerky, but as long as you are chewing it thoroughly it should be fine. The almonds are especially filling for me. I find that after about 5-10 of them I feel stuffed. I also will nibble cheese. I have also stocked up on the 100 calorie packs that come in a huge variety..everything from popcorn to Pringles and cookies. They are nice when I am in a 'snacky' mode. But protein is the very best for feeling and staying full.

    Emotional hunger

After my surgery (and during the pre-surg diet) I went through a mourning period. I mourned the loss of my 'friend', my 'love', my obsession. I remember during the pre-diet I went to the State fair with my family and I stood looking down the longggggggg row of food vendors and I started crying. I was so embarrased that food could have that kind of pull over me. My family felt bad eating in front of me which made me feel worse. I'm glad I went through it though. I said goodbye and I went on with surgery because I thought these things are not forbidden to me, but I will choose to moderate myself in the future. I used to think about food constantly. As soon as breakfast was done I was snacking and thinking about lunch. Now, I don't think about food at all. It is soooo weird to me to just not care about something I was once so obsessed about. I have gone to bday parties and I take a little tiny piece of cake and enjoy some ice cream. I have a good tight fill now so I can't stuff my face.. but even better than the fill is I don't WANT to stuff my face anymore. I'm happy with my little treat. I have had popcorn and enjoyed it as well. In fact I keep the little 100 calorie pack bags around for a snack. Go through your mourning period and embrace it! Your relationship with your old love is changing... and isn't it a B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L thing!!!!:biggrin1:

    The Band has no complications!!

Esophageal Spasm's will go away eventually after the body adjusts. Some people react stronger than others. I got them really bad after my first fill. I was in sooo much pain, so I feel for you! It was recommended to me to use a heat pad on my chest before eating or drinking to relax the stoma/etc and to always drink a warm drink before eating my meal to prepare the esophagus. When I had a bad flare up I stuck to warm liquids and aloe vera juice for a couple days. It worked for me and I don't have the spasms or pain now. Good luck with this! Seems a shame to lose the band after paying so much!:cry (I'm a Kuri patient as well)

Please keep my little girl in your prayers...

I also just saw this post. I am pleased to hear that the Dr's are getting her thoroughly checked and hopefully they will have a good Dx soon so you can move forward past the unknown and start healing your beautiful little girl! Both of my sons are special needs and I know what it feels like to be in 'limbo' waiting for all the testing to be done. Hang in there and know that you have friends who are thinking and praying for you and your family. God Bless.
  22. Dr Kuri just started using a new/larger/nicer hospital this week. The people who have been filled this week are giving glowing reports of faster times etc. Not sure if he fills those bands though.

    Advice from a Bypass Patient

I agree with your friend.. there is no quick fix and if we never deal with the emotional side of things we are doomed to repeat our past. (*has a sudden urge to watch a Christmas Carol*) <<whispers>>Tonight you will be visited by 3 ghosts....! the first.. cravings for soda! the second....... (I would think with your luck with the band so far you would be running screaming from the mere thought of the more risky bypass! ((hugs))

    Liver shrinking diet

I was banded on 09/19/05 and I had to do the LSD. For my Dr it was a pure protein/Liquid diet only. I could have low or no-carb only Protein shakes and pure protein like lean chicken, or cheese. I also ate some raw almonds when I needed munchies. I could also have things ilke Crystal Light. My favorite drink was to get the 'Nectar' brand Protein Drink in the fuzzy navel flavor (peach) and mix it in with my Crystal Light lemonade. Peach lemonade Mmmmmmm. Usually the LSD is VERY low or NO carb. Your body needs to enter ketosis to drop the fatty deposits on your liver. This is super important since the liver is very fragile and if it is swollen or fatty, it can get in the way during surgery and be injured. So, even though the diet sucks it is important. I had to do it for 2 weeks and my surgeon said my liver after was perfect . In fact, the other patient that day had a BMI of only 32/34 (?..It was the lowest BMI that the Dr will perform surgery on..) and they said her liver was horrid. My BMI was 53! So I think that testifies to the LSD effectiveness. Good Luck! p.s. you can pick up ketone sticks in the pharmacy (they are a diabetic supply) you dip them in your urine to test if you are in ketosis. It helped for me to actually see that my body was doing what it was supposed to..especially when I wanted to eat that yummy dinner roll!

    Dr. Kuri

I was just banded by Dr Kuri on 09/19/05! He was wonderful! I researched many of the mexican Dr's and you really cannot beat his experience. I was picked up at the airport in San Diego and taken right to the hospital for my pre-op work with Dr Peterson (one of Dr Kuri's team) he was very nice. The nurses were very nice and don't bother you constantly like they have to here . The hotel/pharmacy/ and hospital are all within a block of each other so it was very easy to walk back and forth. I didn't need any pain meds after the surgery. (I personally did need some anti-nausea meds..didn't want to throw up!!) and I have had no problems since. I would recommend him highly. Here is a link to his Yahoo group if you would like to talk to some other patients of his. Good Luck! http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Dr_Kuri/
