Medical Study that looked at the Downside of Bariatric Surgery
beachwalker4rny replied to James Marusek's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have been researching kidney stones as related to gastric bypass surgery. Several people from my local support group are dealing with this. I hope I can avoid kidney stones. I drink mostly just water all day long with the exception of some coffee in the morning. -
Incidental discovery

Are you taking the stool softener or the laxative? I accidentally bought the Ducolax laxative pills once. Big mistake, I can't take that stuff! -
HELP! I'm not losing weight

Dski the article posted by RickM was great. I would caution you not to do any weight lifting/strength training though until your surgeon clears you. -

HELP! I'm not losing weight

Focus on drinking your water, getting in enough protein and walking at least 30 minutes a day. This is your part the weight loss will follow. I went through the same thing at first and now I. Am down almost 80 lbs. [emoji4] Trust the process. -
female only Ladies, outpaitient surgery question...
beachwalker4rny posted a topic in The Gals' Room
Hi ladies, I am almost 5 months out from gastric bypass. In about 2 weeks I will have blood work done to see if I am deficient in anything. I am scheduled shortly after that to have an outpatient D&C. I was told that I would be under anesthesia for about 5 minutes. The Dr. also told me he has done so many that he could do it with his eyes closed (insert eye roll here) He gave me the impression that it is a pretty minor procedure with no down time to recover. My question is this, when his scheduler called me to set up a day she told me I would be required to stop all Vitamins a WEEK before!! I am not one to disobey medical instructions but this seems excessive. I am not on any blood thinners. The only thing I am taking are the bariatric multi vitamins, Calcium chews with D3 and nasal B12. I also got the impression that they just tell people this across the board because they don't know what supplements people are taking. I am a little afraid to stop all vitamins for a week. I am considering just stopping them three days before. What are your thoughts on this? Anyone had a similar experience? Thanks in advance. -
Ladies, outpaitient surgery question...

Good idea, I will definitely run it by the dietitian and see if she thinks going without my Vitamins for a week will be ok. Thanks! -

Periods are not a problem anymore. ???? -
The bypass was my only option. I was worried about dumping but it really hasn't been an issue for me. I avoid foods high in sugar and fat though. I also avoid drinking with my meals. When I first went back to work I took an emergency bag of extra clothes but I never needed it. Good luck and best wishes with your RNY surgery!

I'm not sure if I have this or not but when I look in the mirror I don't see that I have lost 71 lbs. all I see is how big my stomach, butt and thighs still are. I don't like being mentally negative like this. I am not at goal yet but I think this mental negativity is not productive. Anyone felt like this? How did you overcome these feelings? I should add that there are days that I can really see progress and it is encouraging. Today though I feel negative.

James, thank you for sharing your pictures! I should be more diligent to document as I go. When seen side by side like that you can see quite a dramatic difference.

I could have written this myself! This is exactly the way I feel!

I so want to believe this! I'm still in the losing process though. I do have that fear that the weight will creep back on. -
In My Hospital Bag
beachwalker4rny replied to LoveMyBypass's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I brought a whole suitcase full of stuff. The only thing I used was my phone and charger. I waited until I was home to shower. The thing I didn't bring that I wished I had was my CPAP machine. I brought my mask and the machine the hospital brought me was so horrible I couldn't use it. I did also use an eye mask because I can't sleep with any lights on. -
Welcome Mike! Keep us posted.

Your menu is so encouraging! I am only 4 months out from RNY but the fact that I might someday be able to enjoy 4 ounces of wine again is encouraging. Oh, and the dark chocolate too! ????

False positive HCG test

Sounds like a mix up at the lab. I'm so sorry this happened, I would be upset too. -
Unless your bariatric surgeon requires you to go to a certain Dr. for the psych evaluation you can shop around. The first one I called I was told that I would have to take a two hour test. I thanked them hung up and called another. It was a one time visit and all we talked about was why I wanted surgery and if I had a clear understanding that it was just a tool and the lifestyle changes I would have to make.

what made you decide on the RNY ?
beachwalker4rny replied to taweedeegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted the sleeve originally. After an EGD my Dr. said he could only offer me the RNY. I trusted him so I went with it. I am so thankful that I did. I have no GERD anymore, I am off the Omeprazole. I have lost 64 lbs and for the first time in 20 years I am under 200 lbs! My bypass was done in Jan. Edit: my name for this group was made before I knew I was not going to be getting the sleeve. -

Beyond tracking what I eat, making good food choices and exercising regularly I plan to seek out a therapist that can help me with the mind stuff if I start to regain. -

I think it's probably a good idea to skip the soccer tournament. I felt every bump in the road on the way home from the hospital. -
I miss a good piece of toast and I miss rice. I am following the rules and not eating pasta, rice or bread but I was wondering at what point can they be added back in? Do I need to wait until I have lost all the weight I want to lose and am trying to maintain?

Cervidae, thanks for the quick response! I am feeling good. I am able to walk much faster and farther now than I was a few months ago. I am strength training a few days a week at the gym. I reached Onederland on Friday which was a huge milestone for me as I haven't seen this weight in 20 years. My only complaint right now would be the scary rate at which my hair seems to be falling out. I am getting in at least 80 grams of Protein per day and taking my Vitamins and Biotin faithfully. I sure hope it slows done soon or I will be bald. I do like brown rice and the bread I like is the Ezekiel sprouted that is in the freezer section. I will talk to my nut at my 6 month follow up in July and see what she thinks. Thanks again. Your stats are amazing! You are doing great!
