I begin my liquid diet Monday too! And have the same surgery date!! keep your eye on the prize! From what I've read and heard the forst few days of the liquid diet are the hardest but after that it should be a piece of.. uhmm cantaloupe? Lol I wanna say cake but we won't be able to have that for a long while xD hehe

How long did you wait to return to work?
jacks89 replied to Gemini0621's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spoke to my boss about it and he was very understanding and gave me 5 weeks off. I'm just not sure that's enough though. I work at cvs/pharmacy and sometimes work the front store and there is some heavy lifting and I bend A LOT not to mention we are extremely short staffed..I'm contemplating whether I should ask for a week more or something. Plus my immune system will probably be all outta whack and ppl come in with all kinds of sickness..I really don't want to get sick right after surgery. /: ahh idk. -
If you haven't had surgery yet what are you most afraid of?
jacks89 replied to mimorison's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had surgery in other areas before so going completely under anasthesia is not new. I've had my wisdom teeth pulled out and had to go under to put in and take out wires for my fractured pinky. In all honesty I'm always scared just before they put me under because of the loss of time. The doctor's always think I'm afraid of the actual surgery but it's mostly because of the loss of time. This time around I'm nervous about that and something going wrong inside. They're literally putting tube like things inside you!! >_< But it'll be okay, it'll all be okay. Positive thoughts and prays to everyone! -
Concerned about excess skin
jacks89 replied to tssiemer's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also concerned with excess flabby skin (mostly just under my arms) but I think if you do a workout that incorporates some weight training and drink water, you'll be alright. If that doesn't work you could always save up for a body lift? Speak to your doctor about what you could do -

I totally feel ya on the fish thing, I honestly cannot have it even tuna I just can't stomach it /: and dairy I'm okay with but it makes me run so I deff can't do that for the one week I'm doing the liquid diet and working, I'll be substituting water instead. Might do a soy milk or something for the second week (which thankfully I'm off) hehe oh man tofu? Tell me how that goes! -

I've been running around getting clearances left and right in between work and let me tell you, after all that I'm wiped out! But it's all so worth it because I've been approved!! I am scheduled for surgery September 21st!!! I am unbelievably happy right now!! I've got my hotel reservations and flight's booked! Now all I have to do is get through the 2 weeks of the liquid diet which I start the 7th! I've finally told my best friends and of course they've been very supportive. <3 We've kind of set up a "last dinner" type of thing to Celebrate lol. Before I start the liquid diet I've made a small list of "food funerals" to have. It's really not much though. Also, I work in a pharmacy and we lost 2 technicians so I'm picking up about 40 hrs at work until the week of the 14th (which is the week I took off to fly out). This should be interesting with the liquid diet and all...I really hope the hunger monster doesn't come out to play. xD *superhero pose* ^Grey's Anatomy reference^ -

@@shaqkhi I'm a traveling patient as well and I'm paying out of pocket which is a double whammy but luckily my insurance covered all the pre-op testing. Definitely see if your insurance will cover the pre-op testing! And keep copies of everything!! I literally have doubles of everything the doctor's gave me lol KBI was very helpful in giving me all the information I needed to get the clearances and sending me the lab work required for surgery. When you find a doctor your comfortable with, see how they deal with travel patients in regards to paperwork and such. I didn't book my hotel/flight until I had a set surgery date, just in case. Best of luck with everything!! -

Besides getting fit and healthy. I'm most looking forward to wearing a sweater when I want to and not because I'm trying to hide my rolls/belly. All my life I've worn a sweater during every season, even summer because I didn't like the way I look and in my mind wearing a sweater hid all of that. I love photography, I love capturing moments and people in my shoots. So I'm looking forward to not only taking the pictures but actually being in them. Creating a "perfect shot" with me in it. And finally, not being limited on what clothing stores I could walk into. Not having the fitting room lady give me that snarky look that says: "you're not going to fit in that" and when I try it on, of course not having it fit. I'm ready to stop tearing up and mentally comforting/preparing myself as I get dressed to step out of the four walls of shame because she was right. I'm looking forward to finally being myself 100% because I am fun and loving and no one's seen how much I've struggled throughout the years because I only show my happy, cheery side. So I'm ready to be happy again. I'll finally, unconditionally love the person who stares back at me in the mirror every morning. I won't allow myself to hurt that person again. I'm ready to make changes for myself. I'm ready!! -

Thanks for the tip @@Monnie815 ! I'm not too worried about working through the liquid diet for the one week. Just a little worried I won't get the right amount of fluids in while at work. See, while I'm at work I'm usually on The Flash mode getting everything done so I tend to forget to take a break and eat or drink sometimes hehe I'll have to just put an alarm on to remind myself. Hope my boss doesn't mind too much lol -
I received an email from my bariatric doctor saying that I need to get clearance from my PCP stating that I'm in good health to travel and for an out patient surgical procedure and also that I need to get a stress test done and pass. So I called my PCP about it and they were so impolite so I just want to know if this is the norm. They said they could send a note clearing me to travel but they can't send the clearance for the surgery until 10 days before the actual surgery date. I told them I don't have a surgery date yet because I'm still doing paperwork but that the doctor's office said I could be scheduled for sometime in late August. As for the stress test, they want to do an EKG first and THEN send me out for testing (I'm assuming then they'll send me out for the stress test). So they scheduled me for an EKG the 27th and I'll get my clearance to travel that same date but not beforehand. So I called my bariatric doctor's office and they were somewhat okay with that but ultimately said just send what you can and that the doctor will review it. Has anyone else had similar issues regarding PCP clearance? My PCP's office was so rude about it all and this is not the first time. I'm seriously considering changing PCP. Side note: I won't be seen by my actual PCP doctor but the Nurse Practitioner that works in his office for the EKG and clearance letter.

Hello! I'm new to this site so please bare with me! hehe I've chosen to get the Gastric Inverted Sleeve with Dr. Kim in Colleyville,Texas. Although at the moment I'm in the middle of getting my paperwork in order. The office has told me if all goes well I'm looking at getting the surgery done by late August/early September. YAY! Hotel questions: Since I can't get flight information yet I was thinking about what else I could prepare in the meantime. I'm traveling from New York and will be staying in Texas for about a week with my sister, who will be looking after me. So I'm looking at hotels around the area and I guess this question goes out to anyone who has stayed at hotels near Dr. Kim's office in Colleyville. Which hotel did you stay at and about how much was the stay? Are there any hotels I should stay away from? Packing questions: Since I'm going to Texas for about a week I'm not sure what I should pack. Of course I've got the basics down (clothes, electronics, toiletries etc) but as a gastric sleeve patient is there anything else I should bring for the stay? Also, since I'll be flying from NY to TX do I need to keep medicine in it's original vile and have paperwork with me? I've read in a previous post someone set off the metal detector and the cause could have possibly been the staples in their stomach ..should I call the airline ahead to let TSA know I've undergone bariatric surgery? It's a lot to read, I know, I'm sorry! But if anyone can help me out it'd be really great!!

Dr. Kim/traveling patients
jacks89 replied to jacks89's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have either of those things though /: Thanks for looking out but It's alright, I'd rather pay that price as opposed to the 26k the doctor's around my area wanted me to pay. When the doctor's around here told me that price I had to say "come again?!" (and that wasn't including the overnight stay) lol -
