Sugar intake?
arimerm1 replied to harriskristen1586's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For now, I would say to eat healthy. Eat fruits, vegetables, and lean protein. In the pre op phase, they'll only let you have some protein shakes (that have a little sugar), and 2 cups of non starch veggies like tomatoes, carrots, squash, cucumbers, mushrooms but not potatoes or corn or beans. And then no other sugar. Splenda, equal, truvia sweeteners are ok. A little skim milk in coffee and crystal light and seltzer are ok. -
So.... How much did it hurt?I was able to walk around and eventually out of the hospital under my own power with no wheelchair like 6 hours after the surgery started. In and out. I was in pain for a few days afterward, but I avoided the heavy duty meds the gave me and took children's Tylenol and gas X. The only pain I really felt was the incision sites and a little gas. I had the band surgery. The other surgeries may be different. Wow that makes me feel better! Thanks Any questions, ask me! You can private message me also.

I lost 32 pounds on my 3 week pre op diet. Lucky for me, I love veggies, so I varied them and made a quick dressing with only allowed stuff. -
41 baby! (I'm also really heavy, it's right around 10% body weight). That included 3 weeks pre op.

Products to make life easier!

Get some "half pound" containers. Like the ones when you order take out appetizing food that they give you. I bought some of those to portion out Soup. Also, my 2 new favorite toys are an immersion blender (because I keep Kosher, I bought 2. Bed bath and beyond for like 40 bucks) and a mandolin slicer (15 bucks.) I made cucumber salad a few weeks ago from one of my pre op meals, and everyone in my family loved it. They wanted to know why they ever bought store bought. I made it again this week even though I can't personally eat it. -
I had some trouble drinking them, but part of it was because I got so bored.

I cheated on my pre-op diet and I feel so guilty :(

You'll probably be ok, but don't keep doing that. My surgery went very smoothly because I followed it very carefully. -

They'll go away. Mine still look like scars after a week. They'll go away eventually.

I had the band surgery, which is really safe, but I was also very scared. The thing is that the surgeons do so many of these, that there is a very small risk at all. The best you can do is follow all the pre op instructions to the letter of the law with no cheating! My surgeon told me that my surgery was so easy for him because I followed the diet, and I'm very heavy. Pray to whatever higher power you believe in (if you do) and try to remain strong for your children. By going ahead with the surgery, you'll be a much healthier parent for your children moving forward.

For me, I was only on liquids 1 week and now I started mushy. They told me if I feel ok I can start solids after another week. The only trade off I guess was I did 3 weeks of liquids pre op.

No freaking way. You need to go to an experienced doctor or nurse practitioner to have it done. -
How long did it take you before you tried new foods that my program says to avoid like beef.

I had mine a week ago. You guys can ask me any questions. ¡Muy Buena surte! But I had the band.

Hello guys. I had my surgery a week ago today, and thank G-d I feel great. I'd like to make acquaintances with people like me who just had surgery or will soon so we can support each other.
