Self-pay sleeve along with insurance paid hernia

I'm looking in Colorado or Wyoming for the hernia repair-sleeve surgery too. Anyone know of a surgeon that wouldn't turn their nose up at me for mentioning it?

    Cash pay?

I tried googling but I can't get a good description of how to tell if you have a heital hernia... Anyone know? I'm had a c-section and 2 back surgeries so who knows what's happening in my midsection!
  3. Following! Just was looking into this as self pay may be a possibility of insurance doesn't add WLS on '16
  4. I've been doing my research on vsg and even have my first surgeon apt next week. I just called my insurance to have them send a packet with official requirements (Anthem BCBS so I knew it was 6mo observed etc). Online my interactive insurance plan estimates the cost for various hospitals including what my out of pocket would be. When I called I was told online was mistaken and my employer's, plan does not Include ANY WLS. I'm devastated. I spoke with my vp (I'm in HR) and made a valid argument for getting WLS included for 2016 plan and he was on board with it. But at the end of the day it's about cost for the company, so I'm not holding my breathe that anything will change. I'm going into a depression about the possibility of WLS being off the table. For the last months I've been researching and getting more and more excited about my life and weight finally having a light at the end of he tunnel. Now I'm stuck. Not sure what I'm writing this for other than to vent to others that might understand. I don't know anyone that's had WLS to talk to. I have high bp, 44bmi and Pcos. I don't have an immediate need for surgery so my only other Hope would be to change jobs. Anyone have their plan actually change to include WLS? ????

    So devastated

I'm right with you- juts found out my insurance doesn't cover any WLS even though there are price quotes on my insurance website. My husbands doesn't either! Beyond upset and feel defeated. I felt like sleeve was my drop dead last option and I'd come to terms with it. Even gotten excited about it! My plan is to casually research self pay in U.S. And Mexico. I won't make a decision until my 2016 insurance plan is announced because I've proposed WLS be added (maybe 50% chance they'll add it). I'm not opposed to getting a new job to switch ch insurance even but it's hard to ask in the interview - "by the way I want the job only if the insurance covers WLS. Oh and I'll be needing a few weeks off for recovery." Doesn't sound like a viable plan but neither does going into major debt for the full pay option.

    Devistated-WLS excluded from plan

I guess I will start researching Mexico! I will still wait until I get details on my employer's 2016 benefits to see if it gets added. I was planning on waiting and doing 6 months dr observed weight loss, so it won't be prolonging the process. So many Mexico questions now- are post-op complications covered by regular insurance either leaks or dehydration etc? do you meet the surgeon before your travel? thanks all

@@smileybear76 What's your insurance-how was that process? How long did it take from the time insurance approved to your actual surgery?

    Denver Patients

I am meeting with my pcp for a physical and to start my insurance required 6 mo dr monitored weight loss next week. Besides being required, I want to show the dr I am committed but I just can't get there alone. have started pushing hard and working out 4 days a week for the last 2 weeks, which I haven't done concistiently since high school team sports. I made my apt with Dr Rothchild for the first week of Aug and I'm beyond excited! Is it strange I'm already anticipating the count down to surgery 6+ mo away?! I'd love to meet with others for an informal support group. Id rather be in a smaller group to get to know folks. Let me know who's in!

Great to hear! I'm going to make my first apt with Dr Rothchild. How many nights in the hospital? Gas pain or muscle? food going ok?

    FMLA

I'm a HR Manager and deal with Fmla a lot. The Fmla form most often used is a federal form, Certification of Serious Health Condition. Google it and see specifically what it asks if you are curious. Your doctors or nurse will have to provide a diagnosis and 'major health condition which will make you unable to perform one or more major life activities' ie work. You probably could get time off for preop testing that's required for the surgery. Your doctor just has to specify the dates that you'll need off in the paperwork Here's the thing- the HR professional is legally bound by the same PHI ( private health information) regulations your doctors office is! You can absolutely tell them that you do not want your direct supervisor to know the details of your reason for FMLA. If they give you shit on this look up your rights ( or send me a message and I can help !) I know that I personally won't be telling anyone anything more than " i'm intestinal surgery" Not a lie but they don't need to know my very private business!

    Approved! Surgery on July 2nd

This may be a silly question, but I can't find the answer anywhere. What qualifies as dr supervised weight loss? *I'm just starting my research on sleeve surgery in Colorado. Thanks

I'd love to hear some dr reviews from people that had surgery at University of Colo hospital. I'm just starting to look into surgery as an option and don't know anyone I can get a personal referral from. I hate to pick a dr from a website alone
