    After surgery, time off

I took three. I'm glad I did. I probably could have gone back after two weeks, but I still got pretty tired during the day. I was glad I had three.

    Vomiting stomach acid

I agree. Call your surgeon's office. It could also be a stricture, but in that case, the vomiting and acid usually just occur after eating something. either way (ulcer, stricture, or something else), they may send you for an upper endoscopy to see what's going on. But you should definitely let them know.
  4. my boss and HR knew. I just told the rest of them that I was going to burn a couple weeks of vacation and do some house projects. as for the weight loss, I lost the most the first month. After that, it's been like 2-3 lbs a week. At my size, people don't start noticing I've lost weight until I've dropped 50 lbs or so. So people didn't notice the initial drop. So all they're noticing (if they notice it at all) is the gradual, 2-3 lbs a week. So far, telling them that I've been working with dietitian and exercising a lot satisfies them (any morbidly obese person would never buy that, but normal-weight people do)

    Swimming

my surgeon's PA told me I could go when all the surgical glue and scabs were off. For me, that was at about four weeks.
  6. yes they can come back - I've had two. But they tend to be an early complication - after the first 3 or 4 months, you'll probably be in the clear.
  7. hi - mine were about a month apart. I only had to do liquids the day of the procedure - it was back to my normal plan the next day

    Decisions on surgery type

the sleeve has become really popular - probably because, as others have said, the idea of re-routing your intestines really bothers a lot of people. I went with the bypass because I had GERD, and I've been very happy with my choice.
  9. some do some don't. Check with your surgeon - or a pharmacist may know as well.

    Constantly sick

I agree with Daisee68. I've had strictures as well. You should contact your surgeon's office for sure and let them know what's going on.
  11. they're caused by overgrown scar tissue. They're pretty easy to fix (I've had two). They usually happen early in the process - like within the first 2 or 3 months after surgery...so usually while people are still on soft food. If they get big enough, even drinking Water will set off the symptoms - acid reflux, vomiting, etc. You'll definitely know something isn't right, even if you don't know it's a stricture. I recognize the symptoms now...
  12. hmmmm.....I would think Unjury would be OK. But if by some offchance it *is* something in the Unjury, you might want to try Syntrax. It doesn't have an aftertaste, either (in fact, the only two protein powders I've found so far that don't have that protein aftertaste are Injury and Syntrax products)
  13. could it be something in the protein powder?
  14. Djmohr may be right - I had surgery two weeks before you (June 3). The only thing I can eat 1 - 1.5 cups of is Soup. Everything else is 1/2 - 3/4 C. And if it's really dense Protein, even 1/2 C can be challenging at times
  15. I had RNY. I started taking Prilosec whole right away. Actigall I started taking whole the second or third week (since it's a bigger capsule).

    getting my protein in

don't worry about the calories yet - your body needs the Protein to heal. Plus, 160 calories is not that much, esp given the amount of protein you're getting from it.

    just for fun... personality types

I usually come out INTP, but my I/E and T/F scores are close, so occasionally I'll flip on one of those two.

    Pouch

my surgeon said that, too - the #1 reason people gain weight is noncompliance (grazing, not eating Protein first, not waiting a half hour after eating to drink, etc)
  19. feeling tired the first week or two is totally normal. And whatever you do, don't go off your plan!!! The other stages will come soon enough. The last thing you want to do is screw something up!
  20. I'm only three months out, but I can eat about a cup of something really liquid-y like soup. Otherwise, I can only manage about a half a cup.
  21. that's about what I lost the first couple of weeks - and then I hit the infamous "three week stall". How quickly you lose depends on so many factors - your age, gender, how much weight you have to lose, whether or not you lost weight pre-op (some people lose their "Water weight" *before* surgery), how muscular you are, etc. You can't really compare yourself to others, although I know it's hard not to. I wouldn't worry about it at all, though. I'd say 11 lbs for the first two weeks is definitely in the normal range.
  22. I suppose it depends a lot on what you're supposed to eat/drink and how long you're on the diet for. I could only have 4-5 Protein shakes a day plus Clear liquids, but others are allowed one or two small meals (e.g., a couple ounces of lean protein and veggies). Also, some are on the diet for 3 or 4 days and others for two weeks. Mine was two weeks of shakes and clear liquids - I lost 15 lbs.

    I'm afraid!

do research on the RNY (you may not have had time to do much since you've been focused on the VSG all this time). I've been very happy with mine. I had GERD pre-surgery and it's gone now. YAY!!!
  24. btw - these recommendations are pretty much the same as what my surgeon's office recommended for me
  25. I would guess most RNY patients take the extras (calcium, D, B12) *in addition to* the 1-2 MVI (multivitamins) they've told you about. I do.....
