How Do You Get Yourself Out the Door to Exercise?

yoga and water-based exercises usually aren't a problem for me because I actually like them. Strength-training I hate, but I look at it like I look at flossing my teeth - it's just an evil that has to be done. Period. Plus I keep reminding myself that I can get through all the machines in under a half hour - not so bad, right? I have also tried that trick others have mentioned - I've told myself on days that I *really* don't want to go that I only have to stay for 10 minutes. But I've always ended up staying for the whole time, so it does work......

Eating out 3 weeks after RNY

at that point I ordered pureed soups.

    Does it hurt?

I really didn't feel any pain at all - I was very surprised. I used almost no morphine at the hospital and whatever they sent me home with for pain sat there unopened. The only thing that really bothered me was sore abs. They were fine if I was lying down, but getting in and out of bed was really uncomfortable.

    Vitamins

Breakfast time - multivitamin, Vitamin D. I mix a scoop of Upcal D (powdered calcium citrate) into my yogurt. mid-morning - drop two calcium citrate tablets into my Protein shake (they'll dissolve after awhile) dinner time - multivitamin, vitamin B complex. Have a calcium chew after dinner (my "dessert") before bed - Iron I have some 5000 IU B12 sublinguals and take one once a week (on Sundays). I actually haven't found it all that difficult (once I got the hang of it)

    What Are Your Hobbies?

yoga, any Water exercise (swimming, water aerobics, aqua zumba), hanging out at coffee shops with my laptop, internet surfing, genealogy, hanging out on these boards (bariatricpal and obesityhelp). I also bought some adult coloring books last night as I want to give that a try, too.
  6. dying on the operating table. But then I noticed a week or so before I went into surgery that the surgeon's office had scheduled my two-week, three-month, and six-month post-op appointments. So they evidently expected me to survive! After that, I was OK with it...
  7. p.s. you'll have a lifelong commitment to Vitamins regardless of the surgery. Yes, there are more vitamins to take with the bypass, but I'm not finding it all that difficult, to be honest.
  8. in my state at least (although maybe this is universal), the insurance companies have 30 days to respond. My approval came in less than a week, though.
  9. it's a more complicated surgery, but it's been around for years and there's a lot of long-term research on it. I went with it because of that (it's the "gold standard"), and because I had acid reflux (which often gets worse with the sleeve). I don't even think my surgeon does lapband anymore - and I had zero interest in that. It's too prone to complications.

    Vomiting

yea - things can be a bit touch-and-go the first few weeks. If the vomiting continues, though, let your surgeon's office know as it could be a sign of a stricture.

    Coffee after surgery?

you'll find a lot of differences out there between surgeon's offices. Mine said no coffee at all the first three months, decaf OK starting at the three-month mark, caffeine OK after six months, but only one cup (of caffeinated) a day. No limitations on decaf.

    How calories a day?

you may be fine - I was in the same ballpark. I had the same question at the time because I was never told, either - the only thing they really wanted me to focus on was getting at least 60 g of Protein and 64 oz of fluids
  13. yep! I had the same feelings as the time got closer but I went through with it - and I have no regrets!

    How calories a day?

looks like you're about four weeks out. I just checked and I was averaging 500-600 calories a day then.
  15. good article. Their recommendations are pretty much in line with what my surgeon's office said.

Weight loss slowing down Weeks 11-13?

not sure - although you've been a really fast loser. It could be that it might be the new norm for you - but I'm not sure. It could very well speed up for you again. Like I said, I dropped a lot the first month post-surgery, but then it's been about 2-3 lbs a week ever since (I had my surgery in June as well)

Weight loss slowing down Weeks 11-13?

I've only lost 2-3 lbs a week since the second month, but yes - my dietitian said a stall around the three month mark is pretty common.

    Stalls

yes. So common that there's an unofficial name for it - "The Three-Week Stall" (doesn't necessarily always fall on week 3, but somewhere around there)

    Eating Red Meat

fortunately, I don't think it's very common to lose so much that you need a wig (it happens for some, but again, from what I can tell, it's not all that common). It sounds like most people lose enough that *they* notice, but other people don't really notice.

    Calories and being discouraged

I just looked back in my records, and I was getting about 500 calories a day at three weeks out (over half of that being from Protein shakes). Fifteen pounds in three weeks is totally normal. It seems most people lose somewhere in the range of 15-25 lbs the first *month* (a few lose more, a few lose less). So 15 lbs in three weeks is right on target.
  21. I usually opt for a one-piece with matching shorts - and i wear the shorts in the Water. Although recently I bought a two-piece tankini sort of thing that's bottom piece has an "apron" over the front of shorts - so sort of a culotte-looking thing. That works as well...
  22. Maybe (having reflux after rny isn't common, but it does happen to some people ). I'd let your surgeon's office know, though. I started having reflux issues a few weeks out, and it turned out to be a stricture.
  23. I'm almost four months out and don't remember feeling full yet. Usually I just eat what I know I can eat with no hunger or "full" cues. Occasionally, I'll feel this acid-y feeling in my stomach (sort of like reflux) when I'm eating, and then I know I need to stop right then or else I'm probably going to vomit.

    Two quick questions:

rash - yes. Well actually, hives. For me it was a reaction to ursodiol.

    What’s in Your Healthy Lunch?

I make a pot of vegetarian chili (with things like carrots and bell peppers in it) occasionally on the weekend and we take that for lunch that week. I also keep string cheese and Greek yogurt in my fridge at work in case I don't have anything else to eat. Sometimes leftovers from the night before. I used to make hummus and eat that with baby carrots when I was a pre-op - I should start doing that again now that I'm cleared to eat raw vegetables again.
