Caffeine - when if at all can we start to drink coffee again?
catwoman7 replied to Mitch1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
surgeons seem to have wildly different opinions on this. Some allow coffee from the start, some say never, some say it's fine after x number of months. And still others say it's OK as long as you limit it. I could have unlimited decaf starting at 3 months out. At six months out, I could have one cup of regular per day (plus unlimited decaf). That works for me, so I'm still doing it.... The fact that there's no a consensus on it suggests to me that it's probably not *terrible* for you, but there's probably some fear that it could be hard on a healing stomach - or as another poster said, dehydrating. -
probably varies. Mine lasted for two weeks.
-
I try to limit it to one serving a day and always eat it with Protein - e.g. a few berries on my Greek yogurt or some peach slices in a salad along with grilled chicken. I haven't eaten watermelon because of the high sugar content.

Constantly nauseous
catwoman7 replied to bypassthatbunni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know how common nausea is. I was never nauseated except for a few days before they discovered I had a stricture - and that was only after I ate. -
Constantly nauseous
catwoman7 replied to bypassthatbunni's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
is it worse when you eat? If so, it might be a stricture. You're in the right time frame for that. But I would call my surgeon's office either way. -
contact your surgeon's office. If I were you, I'd want to make sure there's nothing wrong. I was eating pureed foods before I left the hospital, so yogurt would have been fine for me, but I don't want to override what your surgeon tells you. Plus he/she should know about the vomiting.

Nearly three weeks post op
catwoman7 replied to LilPnut's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
looks like you're having the dreaded "three week stall" a bit early. I did, too. I had it during weeks two and three. Week four I dropped like six lbs within a few days. Almost everyone gets that early stall. No worries - just stick to your food plan. -
Gastric Bypass vs. Gastric Sleeve
catwoman7 replied to stsch06's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I also chose RNY because of GERD. No way did I want it getting worse. I haven't had any problems with it since my surgery. -
Headache on liquid diet
catwoman7 replied to Elvenprincess's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't, but I've heard that complaint from other people. It must be a response to the carb de-toxing... -
Which Question or Suggestion Are You Sick of Hearing?
catwoman7 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
"How much weight have you lost?" and "How did you do it?" (I'm not "out" to too many people - mostly just my family and close friends) -
How much walking did everyone do after suegery?
catwoman7 replied to rimmarrufo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I remember having a sharp pain on the left side of my left breast. The PA at my surgeon's office wasn't sure what would cause that. It went away after a few days, though. Weird. -
Question for veterans - hardest part for you?
catwoman7 replied to WitchySar's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I thought the drinking/eating thing would be the hardest, but it really hasn't been very hard post-op. I guess for me it's wanting to do things like going to buffets or eating some decadent dessert with my family or friends, but then remembering I can't. -
Hospital stay after surgery....

How active were you the days following your surgery?
catwoman7 replied to Harsha's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I really had almost no pain. Just sore abs. It was tricky to change positions (e.g. from lying down to sitting or standing) because of my sore abs, but that was about it. I think I was more tired that first week than anything else. -
you'll be fine. Lots of us weighed over 300 lbs.
-
actually, those stats *might* be true of people who weigh 600 lbs (I don't know for sure, though - I've never seen stats for that). I do know that a lot of surgeons won't operate on people who weigh that much. There are a few who do (like Dr. Nowzaradan from "My 600 Pound Life"), but not many. It would be considered a high risk surgery.
-
I suppose that might have been true back in the 1960s (although I don't know for sure), but not any more. Weight loss surgeries are some of the safest surgeries out there. Techniques have vastly improved, they know a lot more about it now, and it's really become a routine surgery. The mortality rate for RNY is something like 0.3%; VSG is even less. That's safer than hip replacement surgery, and they do hip replacements every day. It's about the same as gall bladder surgery. My surgeon has done weight loss surgeries for over 15 years and has never lost a patient.

How is yoga useful in weight loss?
catwoman7 replied to karthikselvam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
it would depend on a lot on the type. There are some more athletic styles of yoga that might be OK. I've done yoga for years, but I gravitate to the gentler, more meditative styles, which don't burn much in the way of calories. However, if you're under a lot of stress and tend to be a stress eater, and yoga calms you down, then it might help with that. I'm not a stress eater, but yoga is my primary way of dealing with my stress. -
when did you start to exercise?
catwoman7 replied to addouk's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
walking - right away most other exercise except for weights - four weeks weights - I think it was 6-8 weeks for weights -
If u don't mind me asking.. what procedure did u have? When did u have it? How much weight have u lost? Sent from my SM-G530T using the BariatricPal App I had RNY 13 months ago. I've lost 130 pounds since surgery, and 188 pounds altogether (I lost 53 lbs on my own before I had the surgery)
-
all I can say is, I'm *much* happier with my loose skin than I was weighing 373 lbs. I'll take the loose skin any day! as for your fear of getting too thin, way more people end up losing less than they originally wanted to than end up too thin.

How long did you continue with protein supplements?
catwoman7 replied to Thecloude1's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 13 months out. If I only needed the standard 60 g of Protein a day, I could have dropped the shakes by now. But I have to shoot for 100 g a day or else my blood protein levels tank. I can't get that high and still keep my calorie intake reasonable without a shake, so I'll probably be drinking one every day for the rest of my life. Fortunately, there are a few that I like. -
Having trouble with Calcium Citrate. What do you use?
catwoman7 replied to Thecloude1's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use Upcal D (a powder you can mix into food), Calcet chews, and Bariatric Advantage chews. I also occasionally drop a couple of calcium citrate tablets into a fruity Protein shake (they don't dissolve as well in the milky shakes) -
I take a 5000 mcg sublingual tablet once a week. high B12 levels seem to be pretty common and as far as I know, aren't harmful. Mine has been in about the same range yours has ever since surgery, and no one at the surgeon's office has ever said anything. There are a couple of vets on another bariatric surgery forum that I'm on who've said they feel crummy if their levels fall below 1000. So who knows? But I'm sure your surgeon's office would have said something if they were worried. I actually see numbers like that posted pretty often (because people are worried when they first see that) - so I think it's pretty common.
-
I haven't had that issue, but you're not the first person I've heard who's experienced it.
