    What's eating like 2+ years out?

    Two years out. RNY patient. I've never dumped. Most of us don't. I maintain on 1500-1700 calories a day. Most of the time this is fine. My stomach is small, so 1500-1700 works. There are days, though, when it's a struggle to stay within this range - like holidays or if I'm eating out a lot. I just know I can't go down any slippery slopes because people can - and do - put a lot of the weight back on if they're not careful. I still weigh and measure everything most of the time since "portion creep" is real... I could probably still lose if wanted to, but my PCP told me to stop, and my body fat is at 22% - which is fine, but I was told not to go too much lower or I'd just be eating into muscle. I still feel restriction if I eat dense protein

    depends on the surgeon. I was on puree before leaving the hospital. Switched to soft foods week three (or four), as I recall...

    I didn't lose any hair, but most people do. It'll stop and then grow back in.
  6. plans vary a lot. Some are ultra-low carb, some are not. I was never told to eat low carb - I was told to eat protein first, then non-starchy vegetables, and then if I had room, fruit or whole grain. That said, I usually ate less than 80 grams of carbs a day, and always under 100. (now that I'm in maintenance, I eat more than that - usually 100-150 a day). But I'm not particularly carb sensitive, either, so that worked fine for me. Some people who are really sensitive to carbs end up eating ultra-low-carb diets even if their surgeon doesn't require it.
  7. I lost 57 lbs of it pre-op (between the six-month supervised diet and the two-week pre-op diet). The rest took me 18 months. Starting weight was 373; current weight is 143. At the beginning, I would have been ecstatic to get down to 200. I would have never in my wildest dreams thought I'd *ever* get below 150!
  8. I had two strictures - but they never had to put a stent in me. I hope they can figure out what the problem is. Sorry you're going through it! I'd only lost 28 lbs by two months out, and I've lost a total of 230 lbs, so don't lose hope! Some people just lose slower than others.

    just stay on plan and wait it out. It will break as long as you stick to your plan. I went through that many times..

    you won't really feel that much restriction until you move to dense food. Then you should *really* feel it.

I don't think most of them do, but if you have a flexible savings account, you can usually buy vitamins with it as long as there's a medical need for the vitamins (which there is for WLS patients). Your surgeon's office will probably have to fill out some kind of form listing the vitamins that are "medically necessary" (all of them should be...).
  12. you're what we call a "lightweight" - you're going to lose a lot slower than someone who started off at 400 lbs. If you're carb sensitive, cut back on those (peaches, rice crackers) and focus on mainly protein and non-starchy vegetables. Otherwise, just stay the course...

    No appetite

    take full advantage of that - milk it for all it's worth. Never in your life will it be easier to lose weight than now - when you're never hungry. There are a few lucky souls whose hunger never comes back, but for the vast majority of us, it comes roaring back once you're about six months to a year out. Things will get a lot more challenging then. So enjoy it while it lasts!!

    Week4 post op problem eating

    could be you're eating too fast, or it could be your stomach just isn't quite ready to progress yet. Or it could be a stricture. For now, just take it slower. If you continue to get sick or if you get to the point where you can't even keep liquids down, call your surgeon - it could be a stricture and you'll need to get it taken care of (I had two - at four weeks out and again at eight week out)

    Slow weight loss

    I lost 16 lbs the entire first month. You've lost it in 11 days. You are far ahead of the game. I've been on this and other boards for a L-O-N-G time. From what I can tell, most people lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month (a few lose less, a few lose more, but I would say most fall into this range). You are right where you need to be.
  16. it's when you have overgrown scar tissue that narrows or closes the entrance to the small intestine. You get to the point where you can't keep anything down. It's an easy fix, though. They do an upper endoscopy and stretch it out. It just takes a few minutes, and they knock you out so you don't feel a thing. I'm not saying it is for sure - you may just be advancing your diet too fast and your pouch isn't ready - but if it keeps up, I'd call my surgeon.

    Slow weight loss

    I was slow as molasses. I lost 100% of my excess weight, though (230 lbs). I did it by sticking to my plan 99% of the time. Your rate of weight loss has little to no bearing on your ultimate success. I am a prime example. So don't worry about how fast or slow you are - just be committed to your plan.

    Why can I eat more than most?

    salad is mostly compressed water. I can eat a lot of it, too.
  19. is it right after you eat? If so, it could potentially be a stricture. I had two - at weeks 4 and 8. Or it could be that you're advancing your diet too quickly for your stomach. You may have to take it slower.

    Syntrax Nectar

    I think pretty much all 100% whey protein isolate powders are expensive. But if you're early out, whey protein isolate is probably your best choice as it's well-absorbed. Syntrax Nectar and Unjury products are my favorite - they don't have that "protein taste" that a lot of others do.

    most RNY'ers don't dump (the number that gets thrown around a lot on internet forums is that 30% are dumpers, but I have no idea if there's any hardcore research behind that - but suffice it to say, not everyone dumps. I don't). Malnutrition is rare as long as you stay on top of your supplements.

    Just so confused...

    you're just in a stall. Stick to your program and it will pass. Your Protein *is* a little low, though - most RNY patients are supposed to get a minimum of 60 grams.

    What am I doing wrong?

    I suppose it's not impossible, but that would be pretty rare. Are you on some sort of antacid? I've read stomach acid can mimic hunger. My surgeon had me on prescription Prilosec for several months after surgery. My hunger came back as well - but that was at 5 or 6 months out (I was hoping I'd be one of the lucky ones who never got it back, but alas....the vast majority of us do!) But yea - having it come back at 1.5 weeks out would be pretty unusual.

    1+ Year Post Op

    I had my surgery June of 2015 - so I'm in your range. I'm in maintenance and eat 1200-1400 kcal a day. I malabsorb Protein, so I make a double Protein shake every morning and sip on it all day. So that's like 200-300 calories right there, depending on what I put in it. Then I usually eat around 200 kcal for Breakfast, around 300 or so for lunch and dinner. I often have a snack in the evening, too - like yogurt. If I didn't do the protein shake, I'd probably have a couple of low-calorie Snacks during the day, like a hard-boiled egg or one of those Fit & Light Greek yogurts. I'm not a gym rat, but I try to get to the gym 2-3 times a week (mostly strength-training and/or Water aerobics). I also go to a yoga class 1-2x a week.
