I agree with the poster that implied weight is more important than volume. 2 oz of meat is like the size of two thumbs. 2 oz of salad is *way* more than that. I have a kitchen scale and use it almost every day.

Is this much vomiting normal?
catwoman7 replied to Maxthecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if slowing down with your eating doesn't help, call your surgeon. It could be a stricture. I had one at four weeks out and a second one at eight weeks out. -
I Am About To Make A Year And I Feel Like A Failure
catwoman7 replied to angeliquita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
like others have asked, have you been sticking to your plan? Even at two years out, I still have to weigh/measure and log everything I eat. Portion creep is real...and bad habits start sneaking in all too easily. Both can sabotage your efforts. The good news is, if you go back to basics, you can still lose the weight. -
2 weeks no weight loss
catwoman7 replied to 3boysmama's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
almost everyone has their first stall within 4-6 weeks after surgery. We call it "the three week stall", even though it's not always on the third week post-op. But do a search for it - you'll find thousands of threads on it. It happens to almost everybody. -
I had two - one at four weeks out and one at eight weeks out. The balloon dilation is easy peasy and I felt better right away

I'd lost 28 lbs by two months out, so you're fine. People lose at all different rates for all different reasons. I was behind the crowd the whole time, yet I've lost over 200 lbs. I bet I ended up blowing a lot of those speedier patients out of the water when all was said and done. Just stick to your plan..

How are people affording all these plastics???
catwoman7 replied to swizzle's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I've also heard of people taking out home equity loans - or borrowing it from their 401k's. it's usually way cheaper in Mexico, which is why some people go there. -
Low vitamin d, please help!
catwoman7 replied to melissamotivated's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
they'll probably put you on prescription vitamin D for a few weeks. I think I was on it for 4 weeks, then I switched to an over the counter one. The prescription one brings it up pretty fast. -
Not loosing weight after one point !
catwoman7 replied to Neossa's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
my snacks are usually something like a protein shake or a Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt. Occasionally I'll have some baby carrots with about 1/4 C hummus (raw vegetables can be hard on my stomach, even two years out, but because they can be irritating, it stops me from eating too much. Hey - whatever works!). At night I'll sometimes have a couple of sugar free popsicles. Like raw vegetables, the sugar alcohols in sugar free popsicles bother my stomach, so all I can handle is two of them. I also eat Light & Fit yogurt occasionally at night, too, especially if I'm craving ice cream. The creaminess/sweetness/dairy aspect of the yogurt hit the same spot as ice cream would. I also drink *a lot* of fluid (usually Crystal Light) - which helps sometimes, but I know sometimes you just have to have real food... -
Not loosing weight after one point !

you're just in a stall. They're very common. Most people experience several stalls while losing weight. Just keep following your eating plan and your weight loss will start again soon. as for hair loss, that is very common, too. It will last a few months, and then it'll grow back. -
B: homemade Greek yogurt with fresh raspberries MS: coffee with half & half, coconut mango protein shake L: corned beef with coleslaw mix, tzatziki sauce, and mustard on a Flat-Out Fold-It wrap AS: homemade Greek yogurt D: spiced beef/sweet potato/prune stew over cauliflower rice ES: "shake" made with Quest Vanilla Milkshake protein powder, unsweetened cashew milk, and frozen strawberries

there are several. The ones I use the most are Quest and Oh Yeah One (be sure to get Oh Yeah One, though, and not the regular Oh Yeah. Oh Yeah One bars have one gram of sugar - the regular Oh Yeah's have a lot more than that)

Hospital stay for Gastric Bypass?
catwoman7 replied to AdoptedTexan's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
they told me 1-3 nights, but most people stay 2. I stayed 2. -
Has anyone ever had to have revision surgery?
catwoman7 replied to xoxococojay's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
but with the DS, you still have a sleeved stomach. I'm not sure how this is going to stop the acid reflux. Is he going to do something else to your stomach to help with the reflux? People who have reflux issues with the sleeve usually revise to RNY. And they usually revise to the DS if they have to lose a lot more weight. -

I haven't, but several people have - almost always because of GERD. -
Saturday's Meal Plan - What Are You Eating and Drinking?
catwoman7 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
B: homemade Greek yogurt with fresh raspberries S: coffee with half & half, SF coconut mango protein shake L: 1 C cottage cheese, 6 strawberries S: protein bar D: 3 oz grilled sirloin with mushroom sauce, coleslaw mix with sesame-miso dressing -
you have to take vitamins for life with any weight loss surgery - some surgeries require more than others, but they're required for all lifelong diarrhea is very rare. Rather, most of us struggle with the opposite problem - constipation. You get that issue with the sleeve as well. It's due to the diet (high protein/low carb) and some of the supplements (like iron and calcium)

look up the "three week stall". Almost everyone gets that. Yours just arrived a little ahead of schedule. Stick to your plan and it will break.

there are *far* more people who don't make it to their goal than there are those who lose too much. Besides, stopping your loss is within your control - you just start eating more calories. There may be a few people out there for whom stopping their weight loss is a problem, but boy, not many. Lots of people complain of regain or not making it to their goal.

I really don't know anything about the MGB. One of the things I liked about the RNY was it's been around for a long time and there's a lot of data and research behind it. I didn't want to get a surgery that turned out to be the next lapband. That's not to say the MGB *is* - it may be a perfectly fine surgery - but I don't know anyone who's had it and I don't know how long it's been around.

protein shakes count toward your 64 oz of fluid

Sleeve or bypass
catwoman7 replied to Carol Blackburn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've been really happy with my bypass. I had almost no pain and recovery was much easier than I expected. -
In Week 5 and I have NO Energy
catwoman7 replied to Stacie Ness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1000 a day is a lot for that early out. I was 600-800 for several months, as I recall. your protein intake seems fine, although we discovered early on with mine (through blood work) that I malabsorb it, so I had to start shooting for 100 grams a day. They'll be able to tell that on your labs. I remember being tired a lot the first couple of months. It may just be a combination of healing from major trauma and the limited calories. as for not losing weight, you're probably in the infamous "three week stall" (it doesn't always happen at three weeks out, but certainly within the first 4-6 weeks post-surgery. Almost everyone goes through that. Just stick to your plan and it will break) -
Sleeve or bypass
catwoman7 replied to Carol Blackburn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
not everyone dumps (the stats I read here and elsewhere are that 30% of RNYers dump. I don't know if there's any hardcore research behind that, but suffice it to say, lots of us don't dump). So I wouldn't necessarily use that as a reason to go with RNY, since many of us don't have much trouble with sweets (unfortunately....). I went with RNY because I had GERD, so it was a no-brainer. But the other thing I liked about it was that it is a much older surgery (although techniques have changed and improved over the years) with a lot of long-term data behind it. you have to take vitamins with both surgeries (although more with RNY), but it becomes automatic after awhile. I don't even think about it. I take a small handful at breakfast, a couple at dinner, another calcium sometime during the day, and iron before I go to bed. Deficiencies are pretty rare as long as you keep on top of your vitamins. they're both good surgeries and people have had great success with both. I don't think you can really go wrong either way. -
all plans are different. I never had a liquid phase - I was eating puree before I left the hospital. So anyway, that would be a question for your surgeon, since that was his/her idea...
