    Overstitch procedure

I haven't had that and haven't read about many people who have, but it gets sort of mixed reviews. Hope it works for you. Keep us posted - I'm interested in hearing your results.
  2. That might be true of people on "My 600 lb Life", but for us more "normal" bariatric patients, no way.
  3. 100 lbs in four months is highly unusual. Either that person started out at an extremely high BMI, or they're an outlier.
  4. You're doing just fine!
  5. Mine just said to bump up my protein starting a week or two before surgery and keep it up for a couple months after. They didn't say anything about specific foods

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

Even if you're lucky and don't have much swelling at that point, your shape could change fairly significantly without that excess skin...

    Side effect and skin sagging

I would take my loose skin any day over weighing 373 lbs again. ANY DAY! I worried about it, too, but in retrospect i shouldn't have wasted one brain cell worrying about it. I am so much happier without all that excess weight!!!

    Just a Hi

77 lbs in five months is great!
  9. I think that would be pretty rare. Some people develop reactive hypoglycemia (I emphasize SOME people - certainly nowhere near everyone!!), but you usually just get dizzy with that, and you can prevent that by eating something every 3-4 hours and really limiting (or avoiding) sugar. But totally passing out would be very unusual. Plus I'm not even sure her passing out is related to weight loss surgery in the first place. And like the above person said, it could be that she was dehydrated and eating way too few calories, too. Hard to say without a lot more info. edited to add that in answer to your question, no, it is not normal. If it were, we'd hear about that all the time on here. I don't even remember if I've ever heard that at all in the four (??) years I've been on this forum.

    The Maintenance Thread

oh I totally agree. Plus bone loss is a risk with weight loss surgeries (well, you'll lose some bone regardless because you won't need as much bone to hold up a much lighter weight - but I mean osteopenia or osteoporosis- happens to some of us). So it's always good to have a baseline. I wish they would have done one on me beforehand...

    This should be Fun CUBA

no Whole Foods. You'll have to eat at the restaurants they have for foreigners (which you'd probably want to ANYWAY). The standard meal when I was there seemed to be a slab of meat, beans & rice, and salad (which we didn't eat because you're basically not supposed to eat the fruits & vegetables unless they're peeled (like bananas) or cooked). edited to add that granted, it's been several years since I was there (2004), but I'd be surprised if things have changed all that much..

to implant or not to implant

yes - what he said. My plastic surgeon asked if I wanted a fat transfer to keep some volume, but I said no way because I HATE big boobs. A B-cup is fine by me! But because he asked me that, I know it's an option...

    Vomiting, diarrhoea and pain.

a lot of people become lactose intolerant - even if only temporarily - after surgery. Could that be it, maybe? If you're drinking whey protein shakes and you're lactose intolerant, that could cause that kind of reaction, too..

    Alcohol

I had my first drink (some champagne on my 20th anniversary) when I was about three years out. Yes - it's true - it hit me right away and I felt pretty bombed just on one glass. I've probably had a drink (just wine since then) maybe twice since then. I get bombed every time on one glass of wine (of course, with as little as I drink, my tolerance is pretty low, too - which would also be a factor)
  15. yea -- elevating them is about all you can do. Swelling happens - and it sucks...
  16. yes - that is most definitely a factor. Drains keep fluids from accumulating there.
  17. when did you have it done? I had some uneven swelling for the first six months or so. They look more even now. Also, I JUST noticed this morning that my skinny Zumba instructor has small batwings that swing when she dances!
  18. I wished for awhile that he'd taken more off my arms, too, but my husband said if he had, they wouldn't really match my forearms and would look kind of unnatural. I think he's probably right. I'm pretty happy with them now.

    The Maintenance Thread

If it's one done at a doctor's office, they usually just measure bone density, not muscle or fat percentage

Need help with food stuck in pouch

if they were RAW carrots, I couldn't eat those until I was a few months out. Raw veggies can be very irritating to healing stomachs. In fact they sometimes STILL irritate my stomach, and I'm over four years out.
  21. when did you have surgery? Does your surgeon have you on a prescription antacid? Most of us were on a PPI (or similar prescription antacid) for the first 3-6 months after surgery. If you're not on one, check with your surgeon and let him/her know what's going on. They may put you on one.

    Little vent: spousal comments

wow - that is awful! You're doing this for you, though....

    No purée stage?

all surgeons and pre-/post-op diets are different. I had no post-op liquid phase - I was eating pureed right out of the hospital (and then moved to soft foods at about three weeks out, I think - maybe four)
