    3 months post op.. wow!

Thats amazing! Congratulations, stay strong! The potential hair loss things is really freaking me out- kind of obsessed with my hair...
  2. Hi everyone! Tomorrow I'm going in for my 2 week post-op follow up appointment with my surgeon. The first week when I was weighed at his office, I lost 9 pounds. I weighed myself at home tonight, and it looks like I only lost 2 pounds this week. Is this normal? I feel discouraged. I've been watching what I've been eating- at least I believe so.
  3. Wearing a super cute bathing suit. Not feeling so self conscious. Not having people tell me "you have such a pretty face, you should lose weight" Doing an hour of Zumba again. Being able to wear heels again.

    When can I run?

Omg I want to work out so bad. But the dietician at the hospital told me no cardio/nothing strenuous for 6 weeks! (Stomachs still healing) I'll see my doc for 2nd follow up appointment on Thursday and I'm going to ask. The only thing I do at this point is walk around the house, walk around the back yard. It's boring lol
  5. Your co-workers are so sweet.

    Tell the truth, exercising

I can't wait to start exercising. I want to start now, but the dietician at the hospital told me no cardiovascular/heart rate up/jumping around until 6 weeks. I'm only at like, 1 1/2 weeks now.

5 days post op, feeling blah. Normal?

It happened to me randomly a few times. But I'm much better the next day
  8. I need some encouragement/advice guys. I feel like throwing my little 2 oz cup of protein shake against the wall! And it's only been 9 days :(

Sick of Protein Shakes, 4 more weeks!

That sounds delicious! I'll get to it! Thanks

Sick of Protein Shakes, 4 more weeks!

Girl it's so weird, there is no puréed stage. It was stage 1 (post op) 3 days clear liquid Now stage 2 (5 weeks) full liquids. Protein shakes, juice, blended Soups, thin oatlmeal, apple sauce. Everything should slip through a fork Stage 3- says "regular solid foods" - consume 3-4 healthy small meals each day + protein supplements if needed. Select tender meats, veggies, fruit. Flaky grilled fish, low fat chicken salad.
  11. @@honeyflowers that's just baby cheating. My pre op diet was only 3 days, juices, broth, low fat yogurt and cottage cheese etc. 2nd night I made a teeny tiny portion of spaghetti. I was ok! My doctor said the purpose is to shrink your liver so it doesn't get in the way of your stomach. The way to blow it would be eating a chicken fried steak or slices of pizza. Just keep at it!
  12. Hey guys, I'm 1 week post op and wondering about my scars. I actually haven't looked at them yet (those white bandages are still on and I'm a little scared to look to be honest) but I do want to minimize the appearance of scars as much as possible. I know there are ointments/creams people use, anyone have any recommendations?

    Treatment for Scars?

awesome, thank you everyone for the advice. I'll probably use a little bit of everything
  14. Good luck Jessica! I'm 1 week Post Op, and thank God, I am doing really well I believe. I'm comfy, not in any pain, I'm getting used to eating blended things /my Protein shakes, taking my Vitamins. Doctor weighed me yesterday and I lost 9 pounds. I completely understand where you're coming from, and so glad you're taking these positive steps.

    protein shake suggestions?

Ok so I'm one week post op, and asked my surgeon if i could add Peanut Butter and banana to my Protein shake (suggested by my brother who drinks protein shakes for working out). Dr Said that'd be fine as long as everything was blended smooth. So I blended 1 scoop of Premiere Protein chocolate, 8 oz slim milk, 2 tsp smooth peanut butter, half a banana, and some ice cubes smooth. You guys, best thing I've had in like 2 weeks. It tastes like melty chocolate peanut butter icecream.
  16. Oh yeah, I'm getting a new doctor. It was pretty ridiculous. He's actually my psychiatrist, but my therapist is the one who actually got me to seriously consider WLS because she had it a year ago! And she said she could answer any questions I had, which was such a relief!

One week post-op HOW ARE WE DOING?

You guys, I had my one week post op check up. I lost 9 pounds, and the doctor said I could basically have most things as long as they're blended and not too thick. So I can add bananas, Peanut Butter to my shakes. He also removed that gross pouch thingy. (My surgeon leaves it on for a week). Freakiest sensation ever! Glad that's over
  18. I love the responses! My parents have sworn me to secrecy, and one of my siblings doesn't know because he's known for being a blabber mouth. I've mentioned wanting to have WLS done before to close friends and they almost all discouraged it. You can just work out and diet! Been hearing it for years now. Quite easy for people who have maybe an extra 10 pounds on them/never work out themselves/ haven't lost and gained significant amounts of weight repeatedly to tell you all of that. I even told my psychiatrist and he was ANGRY with me. I was scolded like a child, but I couldn't of cared less. It really is a personal decision. I don't have an issue with sharing, but I think I'll continue to keep quiet about it. Until and unless I run into someone who is considering WLS themselves and I might be able to offer them insight.

One week post-op HOW ARE WE DOING?

You guys, I thought having like a 1/3 of a sugar free fudge pop would be ok- noooooot so much. Half way through I felt nauseous so I stopped. (Sad) buuuuut I did try 2 oz of sugar free chocolate pudding with a spoon of lite cool whip and it was awesome! (Even though I whipped it up with a fork to get it to be thinner, it was still a little too rich. I ended up leaving about half, but sooooooooo good after the broths and juices.) I also snuck like half a teaspoon of hummus- I'm middle eastern, I just wanted something garlicky in my life! Didn't bother me But I was short by about 20 grams of Protein today. I'm going to substitute the Soups and Popsicles for low fat Greek yogurt which has 12 grams of protein + my shakes

    Why the sleeve?

I know several people who've had bariatric surgery, and those who went with the sleeve have been the happiest with their results. For me, bypass is something to avoid. There's serious side effects, like malabsorption, hair loss, and dumping syndrome is a nightmare apparently. My dad's a physician and he reviewed the options as well and found that out of lap band, sleeve, and bypass, sleeve has the best results with the least complications. I was self pay too. If the doctor you spoke to made it seem like the sleeve is just a step before bypass, maybe consider seeing another physician?

    I want to eat

I feel the same way! For me it's only been 4 days since my operation and I want to eat! I've never noticed before how many commercials on TV are about food! But I keep thinking about the people I know who have had this procedure and they eat normal foods now, just smaller portions. Like even a slice of pizza, a burrito every now and then. We just want our stomachs to heal up right now so we don't hurt our bodies.

One week post-op HOW ARE WE DOING?

Hey I'm having the same issue with my right thigh. It's mostly asleep and then I wake up from a pretty bad pinching pain. I called my surgeon and he said it's related to the procedure- and SHOULD go back to normal in a few weeks. He said it's not anything like a blood clot God forbid.
