provenzee replied to nervousnelly719's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

I'm wondering if my sleeve is small enough?
provenzee replied to Km77942009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't let the attitudes of some people who feel the need to judge everything they see on here stop you from asking questions. We are here to support you, just ignore those who are rude. I'm sure your journey will be great! -
Almost 2 months post sleeve...
provenzee replied to Dchase521's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That doesn't sound like enough Protein at all. My team said that by two weeks out I should be getting 60-80g a day minimum, and less than 60g of carbs, sugar, and fat. Calories should be around 1000 a day, and I should be eating every 3 hours...... My diet is different now as I am further out, but those were the recommendations the first two months. -
I'm wondering if my sleeve is small enough?
provenzee replied to Km77942009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are missing the point of this entire thread. No where did the OP ask if it was a good idea to eat solid foods at 12 days out. she asked if her stomach was too big, NOT if you thought it was dangerous or a bad idea. If she posted a question saying "is it dangerous to eat solids at 12 days out" the responses would be needed, however that WAS NOT her question. -
How Do You Stay Cool Without Ice Cream?
provenzee replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I love No Sugar Added frozen yogurt from those places that are like ice cream shops with all the toppings! I just avoid all the candy/cookie toppings and add fresh fruit to it. It's a great substitute for ice cream! I also love making "homemade ice cubes". I take an ice cube tray and add one piece of fresh fruit to each square (I mostly use berries/cherries) and pour sugar free lemonade over it. Tastes delicious when its frozen -
I'm wondering if my sleeve is small enough?
provenzee replied to Km77942009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A question like this is most commonly going to be responded with things like: "OMG YOU ATE pizza AT 12 DAYS WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO HURT YOURSELF AND NOT FOLLOWING THE SURGEONS GUIDELINES". I think that answer is overdone on questions like this, and does not answer the initial question the poster asked. The question was not "Did I break my surgeon's rules?" or "Should I be eating pizza at 12 days post op?" The question the poster asked was "Is my sleeve small enough". Everyone knows eating pizza 12 days post op probably is not a good idea - but as I have mentioned over and over again on this website, every one of us has a food addiction or we wouldn't need surgery. She did not eat the pizza to personally offend those of you who followed every rule down to the very last crumb, nor did she eat the pizza with intent to hurt herself. My response to the initial question is to not focus on how much you CAN eat and weigh out what you should be eating. Get a good food scale, and probably try making sure what you're eating is about 4 ounces. I always thought I could eat more than others with my sleeve, but my restriction has been about the same since I was a month out. I am 5 months out right now, and about a month ago I tried a slice of pizza. I ate everything but the crust, and the toppings off of another. I was FULL. Think of it this way, though - before surgery you probably could have eaten 5 slices or more (at least I know I could have). One slice is not much. Just be careful with introducing carbs and foods like that into your diet so early. They say carbs are "slider foods" and pizza would probably be easier to eat than something like grilled chicken which is Protein dense. -
Six Month Stall, anyone?
provenzee replied to Mbain's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! I have heard that a "six month stall" is very common, so don't fret. You are not done losing weight yet. If it's possible, try adding a few carbs into your diet - that always seems to help me if I've been stuck for a while. Maybe put Peanut Butter on one slice of bread for Breakfast every day for a week and then go back to no carbs and see if it kickstarts it. -
Marvelous, glorious Water!

What are some things you want to do.....
provenzee replied to LadyinIL's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congrats on your progress! I hope you get to take that ride someday lol. My goals are: 1. Going to an amusement park and not avoiding the fun rides because I don't think i'll fit 2. Kayaking without worrying if the kayak will tip over haha 3. Shopping in regular stores and trying on clothes in store, because they carry my size 4. Not being embarrassed walking up a flight of steps with other people because my breathing is so bad (this one has already kind of been fixed after losing 76lbs) -
Two years out and I have loose skin, how do I get rid of it?
provenzee replied to PSampson's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's unfortunately really hard to get rid of the loose skin. I don't think any amount of exercise can help to be honest...I mean, it could tone the muscles underneath and make it look better....but probably wouldn't help much actually getting rid of the skin. My only option is going to be surgery to remove it, if it gets that bad, I think of it this way, though - I would rather the empty loose skin than 105lbs of filling inside the skin. I hear there are some great body shapers, too. -
Marvelous, glorious Water!
provenzee replied to Kaze's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can definitely make it to 100 a day! I like to drink a 16.9ounce bottle of Water every three hours...assuming I start at 8am, and have my final one right before bed at 11pm, that's 101 ounces of water also, I didn't have any problems drinking starting day 3 post op....I was almost concerned at how fast I could drink. -
Post op surgeon visits
provenzee replied to Catmom4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My personal opinion is that as long as you have a PCP or doctor you can go to if you notice any issues, you really don't need to see a surgeon anymore...as long as your get your labs and aren't experiencing complications, you'll be okay -
Addicted to Food - Can I Even Do This?
provenzee replied to bini120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can do this! I cheated horribly on my pre-op diet. I made myself do it the last three days without cheating at all, because I KNEW I had no choice because surgery was my only option for breaking this addiction. A week into the pre-op diet, I cracked and ate a whopper with cheese, large fry, ten piece nugget, and chocolate shake. I ate that in ten minutes. I felt horrible, and disgusted, and defeated. I had a terrible food addiction. Now after surgery, I still have one, but it is getting better. There are days I feel like I am going to break, but I can tell you that it is MUCH easier to resist now than it was before. You'll spend the first month breaking your carb and sugar addictions, so that by the time you get to solids it wont be as bad. What I do, when I feel a craving hitting me hard, is go eat 4 ounces of dense Protein immediately. Tuna, grilled chicken, ham, etc. By doing that, I know there's no room left for the other garbage. Occasionally, I have "accidentally" eaten a cookie or piece of candy - think it has happened about 4 times already where I legitimately was not thinking, and popped it into my mouth. The good news is, even if I were to get a whopper right now, I'd be full to the max after about half of it (im assuming, I haven't had any fast food since surgery) - and there would be no room for that extra half, or those fries, or that shake anyway. -
haha, awe!! what a cute bowl! lol food looks goooooood

what to tell the surgeon?
provenzee replied to pleezeSleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations, and welcome to the group! Your username is cute by the way. I feel like we are a similar age group, and some of our stats and information sound similar so I figured I would tell you my story. I am 25 years old, and my starting weight was 298lbs. I had no medical issues, other than morbid obesity, and as long as you have a BMI of 40 or higher, none are required for approval for most insurance companies. I made the decision to have weight loss surgery because I was overweight my entire life, and decided I wanted to enjoy what was left of my young adulthood at a healthy weight. My weight when I was ages 17-22 stayed pretty much at around 240lbs. Then, in 2013 I decided to go on a diet - I lost 80lbs and was down to 160! of course, I started going back to my old habits again, and before I knew it, I was 298lbs in June 2015. I made the decision to see a surgeon, I did a consultation and all of the pre op requirements including six months of nutrition visits. My PCP and the surgeon both thought surgery was a great option, because they thought my past dieting experience showed I could stick to a nutrition plan - only this time I would have a sleeve to help. I have had no complications from surgery at all, and am 4.5 months out. I think that has a lot to do with being young and otherwise healthy. I have lost 76lbs so far, and I feel amazing. I don't remember feeling this great last time I was 222lbs. The sleeve was the best thing I have ever done. I feel like a normal 25 year old now. I still go out with friends and order healthy options, and I still cook dinner for my family. Also, I have heard that the pain from a C-section is worse than that of the sleeve. The worst pain for me in the hospital was trying to sleep in those uncomfortable beds with a sore back from being on the operating table.... Good luck, and stick around so we can share experiences! -
It happened to me as well, which is weird because I never had breakouts. I didn't really do anything different except make sure I was drinking tons of Water. It seems to have gone away now, and I am 4.5 months out. I took a cotton ball and dabbed alcohol on the bad spots to take out the oil when it got really bad.

Documenting your progress
provenzee replied to charley27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I considered youtubing or blogging, but I was too embarrassed because of my weight, and now it would be too late to start because I am over 1/2 way through. Keep us posted if you do, I'd love to check out the videos and follow someone elses story :-) -
I asked a similar question. I am 4.5 months out and my hair seems to be falling out. It's very noticeable in the shower. My boyfriend said he could tell the other day, and that my hair was clearly thinner on top. I'm not cutting my hair, so I'll have to deal with thin hair until it grows in. I am worried about bald spots too..but I haven't seen or heard of that happening to anyone

I see why its so hard to find NO COMPLICATION stories
provenzee replied to Womanvsmirror's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't had any issues either! I mean, I have had some hair loss but that's it. I've had no problems with food, water, or any other complications. Thankfully, I got lucky..and I'm 4.5 months out [emoji177] -
All my life I wasted so much time yo-yo dieting, up and down constantly! Now that my goal is within reach, I can't help but be so excited about it. I started with 126lbs to lose, and have lost 76 already which only leaves 50 to go! My goal is to start 2017 off at my goal weight! So I have until January 1st to lose the "final fifty". Anyone else excited?! Let's celebrate together!!

How much hair did you lose? And when did it start/stop?
provenzee posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know this is a common question, but I am just curious to read some responses. So I am 4.5 months out, and I noticed about a month ago that my hair was falling out. I expected this to happen as I had read so much about it. Honestly, it wasn't super traumatic...I just noticed more hair on my brush, and if I was wearing black I'd be picking hair off of my shirt all day...there was also one day I was trying to do dishes and had to stop because my hair fell out and tangled my sponge...lol Now, it seems to not be falling out as much anymore. Is it possible I got lucky and it only lasted a month, or is this the "calm before the big Storm"? Just curious as to how long/how much hair everyone else lost. I know it is part of the process, and I have been taking Biotin, all my Vitamins, and getting enough Protein lol Thanks!! -
Sometimes I'll make two scrambled eggs with 1/2 an ounce of cheddar, and a slice of ham. I can finish the whole thing if I wanted to, but usually I am a little too full if I push it. Generally I'll finish about 3/4 of that and be comfortable...don't worry! Every is different

Transition to regular food
provenzee replied to sean72977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might want to keep some of your soft foods in your diet even while on solids..a sample of what I ate in the beginning would've looked like this: Breakfast - a cheese stick and two tbsps Peanut Butter lunch - 1/2 a can of tuna and a string cheese Snack - a few slices of deli ham/turkey dinner - 2-3 ounces of meat (chicken, lean beef, etc) and a few bites of veggies Snack- string cheese, turkey bacon, more ham or turkey, or anything high Protein. This would give you at least 70g of protein, probably more. About 800-900 calories -

How bad are the scars from laparoscopic sleeve?
provenzee replied to Trying to decide's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am four months out, and my scars have faded a little bit. I have four - two are about 1/2 an inch, and two are about 1 inch. They blend right in with the stretch marks I have from gaining weight over the years anyway...
