    Old Clothes

Hi Adrianna -- I think that working from home made it easier for me to stick to the plan better than if I was working at an office - no temptations, nobody questioning my eating habits, etc. I was sleeved 11/5/2015 and was pretty much a hermit this winter. That being said I am down 68 lbs, so am thrilled with my progress so far! I only bring foods into the house that are approved on my plan - so no slider foods, no processed foods, etc. I focus on high-protein. low (simple) carb, organic, GMO-free, vegetarian foods. My plan calls for 5 small high-protein meals per day, and I think it would be trickier for me to successfully accomplish this if working in an office. We also have almost no alcohol in the house any more -- I used to drink more than I should (was drinking way too many calories), and since surgery I've only sipped on a couple of random drinks when dining out socially. We go out for dinner occasionally but almost always for sushi, where I get sashimi (I will eat pescatarian when dining out). When I travel to my company's HQ, I bring protein bars and vitamins (was bringing protein powder but never used it). Hotel offers eggs for breakfast and I'm able to get some beans and cheese at the cafe' for lunch. Dinners are a little trickier, but I typically order an app and find that most people don't really pay attention to what others are eating -- and if they do I just say "I had a big lunch." I know I'll be socializing and going out a lot more when summer comes, but I feel that following a strict plan at home for about 6-7 months prior to that will help me stay focused and on track. Glad to "meet" another remote professional! Hey Jennifer... I work from home but occasionally have to spend a week in the office like twice a year. I only need a few professional outfits. I am at the preliminary part of this process but I was wondering if you thought the process was easier working from home. What challenges did you face. I think my biggest fear is I plan dinners with friends to get out of the house... Going out to eat will be a social struggle so I am concerned of how to keep my sanity.

    Old Clothes

You're not alone! I work remotely from home and now realize how many of my clothes from the last couple of years are stretchy, comfy types that still fit me even though I've lost 66 lbs. I have started by throwing out a bra that got to loose and some undies that were literally falling off me. I'm looking forward to cleaning out my closets, but def keep procrastinating about it - I think for the reasons you mention. It does feel so awesome to get rid of stuff though!

  9. I have one bad kidney (not as serious a situation as yours) and I had similar concerns. I had bad kidney pain in both my kidneys starting about 3-4 days post-surgery for about a week due to de-hydration. Mornings were the worst. I had to set an alarm to wake up during the night in order to drink Water every 1/2 hour or so. I'm happy to report that I'm now 3+ months out and have successfully stayed very hydrated since then, with no kidney pain. I think you'd have to be very careful right after surgery to stay as hydrated as possible, which is challenging at first. I am a vegetarian, so my Protein is plant-based -- which my research says is better than animal-based protein for folks with kidney issues. You can def be successful at WLS as a vegetarian -- I host a Facebook group for WLS & plant-based diet if you're interested (WLS Vegetarians). Def check with your doctors though!

    Mediterranean Style Eating

Totally agree! We eat so little now, what we put in our bodies should be super-nutritious, healthy, chemical-free, GMO-free, etc. And we do not have to consume the dead bodies of helpless, slaughtered animals. Please search for "WLS Vegetarians" on Facebook to join a group of like-minded WLS'ers who are following (or interested in following) a plant-based diet.

Did you keep your surgery a secret?

Only my BF knows I had the sleeve in 11/2015 (we live together). I'm a very private person and if people notice, I just say I've been dieting (which is true).

    Sleeve and sushi?

Starting eating sashimi (raw fish, no rice) at 2 months. Personally, I'm avoiding simple carbs like rice -- I suppose requesting brown rice would be better? Even better, sushi made with no rice at all -- cucumber or seaweed wrap instead.

    November 2015 Sleevers?

    Sleeved 11/5 - HW 292, SW 274, CW 246, GW 138, height 5'9. So far so good!
  20. I was sleeved on 11/5/2015 and was pretty scared too. There was some discomfort for the first few days, but nothing really painful. My biggest piece of advice is to make sure you get your Water in the first few days after leaving hospital so you don't get dehydrated (I learned that the hard way). Down 42 lbs to date -- def no regrets!
  21. I was sleeved on 11/5/15 and still do not eat very solid foods -- even veggie stew makes me barf so I puree it. Am sticking with Soups, purees and very soft foods which is fine with me!

    Dizzy- 5 weeks out

Yep - sleeved 11/5/15 and still get extremely light-headed when I bend over and stand up again. I was a fainter prior to surgery, and now have to be very careful when bending over.

    Morning Nausea

Yep -- I felt mild nausea for the first month or so -- thru the first meal of the day. Once I digested Breakfast I typically felt better for rest of day.
  24. Am also vegetarian and ended up with a weight issue by consuming too many bad carbs and too little Protein. Since being sleeved 6 weeks ago, I've completely changed my habits (as we all should) and now focus on getting Proteins in first with fewer carbs and almost no snacking. Current proteins include -- refried Beans, Protein shakes, Soups w/ added Protein powder (unflavored), eggs, yogurt and a little cheese. I'm down 40 lbs since starting the pre-op diet 2 months ago and really happy with that. I just started a Facebook group for vegetarians who have had bariatric surgery that he (or you?) may want to join -- I found very few bariatric resources out there for vegetarians so am hoping this will help us share ideas, recipes, etc: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1646059515642538/
