What if something goes wrong while on vacation?
tztmama replied to Sunta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
last April i went on vacation and i also had an unfill. My band has closed off twice in the last 9 months, weeks after a fill. I didn't want to take any chances. Vacations are too expensive to be miserable. -
Yep, your body is stabilizing. You will stabilize and continue losing. i had to get an unfill due to being too restricted, couldn't even keep my shakes down. I was dehydrated and as soon as i could drink liquids again i put on 7 pounds. i stay away from the scale, only allowing myself a weih-in once a week.

When I was waiting to be admitted for my surgery the staff put on a video about Ann having the surgery. I was curious about how she was doing too. Sad if she gained a lot back but if she is happy, who am I to judge?

SO true................there is nothing like helping others. Afterwards, however, I..............tend to ..............want.....to.......reward myself......with a snack.

Yep. My "fat suit" helps me be invisible. I know, I actually take up more room but I rarely attract interaction, especially from men. There is a comforting feeling in that. Now 45 and past menopause, I sort of feel less worried about that. I feel more confident or else I just don' t care what people think as much. Probably a combination of both. I eat when I am bored. I went through emotional withdrawals after surgery and when my band is so tight I can't eat solids. It is like I have to have some form of escape/entertainment. It used to be drugs (70's ya know), then I quit that and it was men for quite some time. In 2000 my mom had a stroke (obesity related of course) and was completely disabled so I moved to care for her. My boyfriend at the time couldn't handle it so he bailed. I immediately started gaining weight and put on about 70 pounds. Thanks to the band, I am down almost 60.

This happened to me twice in the last 9 months. Both times i tried to "wait it out" and then had to be completely unfilled for a few days. Get an unfill immediately or at least talk to your dr. With me, no amount of Maalox or Gas X helped. I also had bad back pain.

Can I get some feedback from other bandsters?
tztmama replied to rhlane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am the same way and I have had to have 2 total unfills when my band got too tight, at which time I gained immediately. I think I am going back to Overeaters Anonymous. They have a really good support program and everyone of them are there for similar reasons. -
Who does your fills? (What type of health care professional)

My surgeon always does my fills and unfills. I have only been banded 9 months and have had about as many fills/unfills. One time there was another surgeon at the office and they were both busy. The other surgeon came in to give me a fill and my surgeon walked in and asked what he was doing, if he had read my chart, and told him how much to fill. -

How many calories with skim milk? Thanks for the info! -
Griz Girl, I had the exact same thing happen.........pain, reflux, unable to swallow solids (2 months), difficulty keeping shakes down and then eventually unable to swallow and hold Water. All my symptoms went away when I got unfilled. My doc put about half the fill back in the next week and I'm scheduled to a slight fill on the 14th. I decided to let my poor swollen stoma rest too. It has been a week and I have already put on about 5 lbs but I have to believe some of it is water as I was quite dehydrated. I felt sooooo weak. Thanks for posting cuz I keep wondering if I had a slip. They did the barium swallow/xray and said all was well though.

WOw! I am so sorry to hear about the problems your surgeon has caused. I am also sorry (and somewhat pissed) to hear about how you were treated after your discharge. Where are the ethics???? My prayers are with you as you get your new band or your old one repositioned. I don't understand why the surgery would be high risk now? Did they explain? It isn't considered high risk initially? Keep us posted, ok?

I don't hear anyone blaming anyone...................Kare you are right on............ Tired, thought we were joking and having fun, really......I like your avatar........didn't mean to offend..... I didn't perceive anyone blaming men for teaching us poor blowing styles. I read one woman had a male who gave her good instruction but that a woman "enhanced" the technique with adding desire, seduction, mystery, play, and a few other juicy tidbits. Let's keep it fun..................we aren't talkin' about happily ever after and warm fuzzies (although that is pretty much everyones ultimate desire)..........................just plain......ol'.........head and how a woman can use her mind AND mouth to be very skilled at it. -
Hey, I had my last fill 3 months ago, lost 30 lbs and then my band tightened up so much I had to go get an unfill. My doc said that this just happens sometimes to some people. Others only lose restriction as they lose weight. I let mine stay too tight until I was in intolerable back pain. Then they had to take all the fill out. Better to get a cc or two out right away. I have put on 5 pounds but it sure feels good to be able to eat and not hurt.

Careful for leg cramps and/or brain fog. I heard from a health instructor that these can happen if one is in ketosis.

Hey there all. As usual I was at work (teaching summer school) and folks I haven't seen for a year commented on my weight loss. Today one teacher's aide told me that her girlfriend had WLS and that her local burn center will pay for tummy tucks if you donate your skin. Kind of weird but I think that even if I have to pay for my TT I'd like to donate my extra skin to burn victims...............I'll investigate it and post my findings in a new thread. Anyone have info???

I am proud to say that after 9 months of being banded, I have no desire for brownies or "breaded" stuff. Your friend probably thinks your surgery gave you super will power immediately.
