I have 2 sons. One is skinny, one is not. My skinny boy is 17 and we can go out to big extended family dinners and he will just order water. I ask him "why don't you eat??" He looks at me and says "simple, mom. I'm not hungry". I don't get that. I would eat just for the pary of it. Also, I make this delicious Oklahoma style banana pudding. He loves it yet he will eat half a big bowl full and I catch him tossing the rest out. This is his favorite dish yet when he is full...........he stops eating. My chunky son and I watch this in amazement.

SO sorry to hear about this. What is up with these insurance companies????? If they only spent a fraction of the time that we do researching WLS procedures maybe they would see the light here! Don't give up, you sound determined. It will happen.

external glue, don't know if there is any internal anything.

I've only been banded since 9/26 but I'm supposed to be on 2 weeks of liquids (protein shakes) well, today I thought I would gag if I had another shake so I had yougurt. I had diet black cherry last week when I didn't know it was a no no.

Hey there! Welcome to bandland! I love to hear the enthusiasm in the e-air! Hope your recovery is speedy and I did indeed raise my cup of broth and offer a special cheer to you!

That sounds like a great idea! I weighed 226 the day before surgery (9/26) and this morning I was 219.

It wasn't a big deal for me either. Just show the therapist that you are serious about a lifestyle change, well read on the topic of the band, and that you know the lapband will serve as a tool to help you make changes that are in your best interest.

Is it true that we are not supposed to have any type of diet soda? I love the twister orange soda diet.

Don't feel bad. When I went to my consultation a few weeks ago I found out I am more fat percentage-wise that the cheapest grade of gound beef. LOL!

Get something that makes it not as noticable and keep it to yourself. Call it allergies or whatever, too much is at stake. -
You give us newbies such hope! Thanks for the inspiration and keep on slinkin'!

Get more than one opinion regarding the bipolar thing. I have been in 12 step programs for close to 20 years and then with the weight gain I started having back pain which resulted in me being on Vicodin for extended periods of time (along with several rounds of physical therapy). It is hard taking meds when a person has an addictive personality. Its like having to eat to live when you are addicted to food. I always feel mood swings when I am coming off the vicodin. I usally ask for different pain meds even if they don't work as well just to keep off the same med (of any type) too long. It is difficult. Also, how old are you. I started feeling major mood swings and funk at the end of my thirties only to find out I was already entering menopause. We are at the tail end of this obesity thing. We are in THE SOLUTION. When I get discouraged after catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror and feeling shocked, I just remind myself that it is getting better each day and I am on my way out of this obesity hell I have been in for way to long. My bones and joints aren't working as hard as they did last week. It will only get better from here on out but we must be patient. Writing is so therapeutic. Journaling is a great idea and posting to the caring people on this wonderful site it too.

I forgot to mention that in addition to teaching, I am a mom to 12 and 17 year old sons, 25 yr old daughter, 8 year old grandaughter, 3 mini weenie dogs and 2 mutts. I also care for my mom (on hospice) and have been doing so for 5 and a half years. She was completely incapacitated(can't walk, talk, toilet) due to obesity which resulted in diabetes and stroke.

Is there a lap band doctor in the house?
tztmama replied to rorysmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think the band will help people who have difficulty exercising because I know that I have to walk many, many, miles to walk off a huge piece of cake. When less is digested, there is less to work off and therefore we can exercise for our general health, heart, lung capacity, muscle tone, and not in a desperate attempt to work off a day of bad eating or to punish ourselves somehow. -
Thanks folks, I appreciate the info. I drank 1/2 of a diet black cherry coke yesterday. I felt fine but I think I'll play it safe and stay off of it for now.

Welcome Joe! Sounds like you are takin' care of business! I am quite the newbie myself as I have only had my banded since last Monday. This is a great site in that we give each other support and information about this journey towards a healthier lifestyle. Best of luck, Darla

Is there a lap band doctor in the house?
tztmama replied to rorysmom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wendyr, Same here with me. My BMI is 38 and like you I have a family history of our women becoming obese, getting diabetes, and being killed/mamed by strokes. Other than backpain, I appear to be quite healthy. I know by watching my mom and g-ma what is in store for me so that is why I pursued the band. I think that when a person is beginning to show that he/she is in danger of proven family diseases they should be able to get help. I too feel very fortunate that my insurance approved me and is paying for most of the surgery. I am also lucky to have a primary dr. who backs my decisions. D -
Best of luck to you! I got mine last Monday so I know how exciting this is. I was nervous last Sunday but am so glad I went for it! Post to let us know how you are doing when you feel up to it. Darla

Right on, Kathy!!!! I think I just might go pick out a cute little (okay medium) shirt and put it away as incentive, great idea! Darla

Hey lovecats. I am exactly where you are with this. Our Protein shakes are thicker than egg drop soup, right? I was banded last Mon. (9/26) and I will admit that last Friday I put some beaten egg whites in my clear chicken broth and nuked it for a minute, thus making a weak version of egg drop soup. I felt fine. I care for my disabled mom and I have been taking the campbell soups, straining it, puree the veggies/noodles for her and having the broth myself. Last night there were a few tiny pieces of carrot in it and I just blended it up. Another member on our site was banded the same day as I and she said she is allowed yogurt, pudding, etc. I think it depends on the doctor. My doctor put me on liquids because 1) gives things time to heal 2) makes sure I'm getting all the nutrients needed 3) gives me a psychological "break" from dysfunctional eating habits so that I may begin "anew" with my new lifestyle and relationship to food. Bottom line, it's probably best to call you Dr. tomorrow and ask his opinion as to how liquid the liquids should be. Hell, I'm a compulsive eater, I can make a frickin' brownie liquid if I wanted to, LOL!!! Keep smilin', we are on the bandwagon finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO! Darla

Hello, I know what you mean regarding waiting fo be on mushy foods. I am 6 days out from surgery and keep waking up wanting to "chew" something. I know people tho are on strict liquids and are having a tough time at it. I always have a cup or two of clear broth - it really helps. Best of luck to you! Darla
